Right???

I'm hoping I eventually have a breakthrough on this one though because I love the story, the characters, the setting, fuckin D&D, everything else.

I just feel like I suck at the combat and that takes me out of the game. Pretty much my problem with Dark Souls and such but I feel like I SHOULDN'T suck at this.

Fair, I do kind of suck at the combat and only got good when I used the mod that allowed me to use all party members. I don't want to have to be bothered with buffs and debuffs. Sure for a boss, but I dont want to have to worry about it for every encounter. Sometimes I want to just wipe the floor. Even then I still had to be smart-ish since I want using all the systems and was mostly brute forcing it

That's exactly why I put the game down. I have always wanted to like CRPGs because they should be exactly the type of game I want, but they're too slow and complicated, whether it is turn based or strictly pause-based D&D combat.

Then I realized that they are too open ended and I don't get the satisfaction of watching a story unfold as the writers intended. I am glad it caters to people that want to make their own story and sequence of events but it's not for me.

On other hand, I have never been able to get into a Survival Game really. Figured that was another genre that would just be closed off for me. But I am absolutely LOVING Dune: Awakening. The setting is doing a lot of heavy lifting for me, I'm sure, but I am utterly enthralled. I'm normally the member of the friend group that lags behind everyone else as I'm way too ADD to focus on one game enough to keep up with my more power-gaming inclined friends, but so far in this one, I'm the one leading the way in everything. Wild.
Oh shit, I had no idea this was an open world survival game. Do you need friends to play or is it fun alone?

I've been playing completely solo so far because I'm an old man who wakes up before dawn and my friends are night owls in their 30s and I've been having a great time.

Is there a good game that's not BG3 but is a good representation of if I would enjoy a CRPG without buying BG3?

I don't have a hefty gaming budget and the concept of BG3 has always interested me but I'm really not sure. I'll likely be dropping Plus on renewal so looking at those long-stretch games.

I just played a mission where I got drunk and learned another language, how to swim and have a dog talk to me!

Some really cool systems, if they they notice you snooping around and something goes missing they'll accuse you, if you steal a key off someone they'll change the locks in a couple days , and perhaps my favorite , if you walk around over encumbered, your strength will increase slowly

Going back to playing Final Fantasy XV. I started that one 2 years ago and never progressed much through the story due being way more interested with Ghost of Tsushima at the time. Doing that for now while I'm waiting to save up enough money to buy FFXVI, but now it appears I have another obstacle in my way....

It occurred to me FFVI is on XBox now and has been since late 2024. There's another game I'm going to have to add to my wishlist. That one was my introduction into the series, and it's also my favorite.

Probably going to put Final Fantasy XV on the back burner again. I'm finding myself getting bored with the game. The story feels bland, there's a whole lot of nothing despite it being an open world game, and the way the story is told over multiple forms of media is a mess. Not that it's terrible for my standards, but you can tell the game is an unfinished product. It's a game that leaves so much to be desired, and once you do finish it, one that you could put away and not play again.

The game I'm putting it on the back burner in favor for? Clair Obscur. I was reminded by a friend the game was on Game Pass. Thanks to him, I'm installing it right now. That one is of interest.

I decided to start Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 + 2. Despite my frustration that #4 is not retaining its original form in the upcoming 3 + 4 remake, I figured that I never played the remake of 1 + 2, despite getting it from PS+ for free.

I played a lot more of 1 than 2 back in the day, but definitely enjoyed both. I've put close to an hour in so far and this is just how I remember it. The only difference is that you get two joysticks now, so you can control the camera better (though it's still a little wonky).

I've heard that getting the platinum takes forever, but that has never stopped me before :chuckle
