Multi Watcha playing?

Me and my brother started Split Fiction yesterday, and put in about six hours. Loving it so far! For me, the hype is well deserved. Sure, the difficulty is raised from It Takes Two for the casual gamer, but not in a hindering way if you have some experience playing games.

Really liking the puzzles, gameplay and humor!

I'm still playing a mix of Helldivers 2, Fights In Tight Spaces and Two Point Museum.

I really do love all three games, and I reckon by the end of the year I'll have the most time in Two Point Museum because it is just such a perfectly constructed sim and feels like I'm playing in the golden age of that genre again, but Fights In Tight Spaces has unexpectedly pulled me back in. I thought I was done with it, but I keep going back for another run, and might see if I can get all of the achievements now. The problem is that the two most difficult (complete a game on Purist and complete a run in under an hour) are really very difficult. I think I might be able to do both eventually, but I'm not certain on that.

Fallout New Vegas as me hooked again.

Also working my way through Mega Man 10 on Switch.

I'm still playing AC: Valhalla on my own, and BG3 with my brother!

have progressed pretty well in Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney, wife and i finished the third case last night. excited to experience the fourth case for the first time since, uh, 2007! time doesn't feel real anymore

How you like this compared to the first 3?

other than that my wife has been playing through Yakuza 0 for the first time and it just underscores how great an entry it is into the series. it was the first one i ever played but going through it now that i have the entire series under my belt makes me appreciate all of the little nods to other games in the series. i don't think i'll pick up the Switch 2 port but i am very interested in whatever new cutscenes they cook up

Swoon, love anytime plays this series

i'm also giving a second shout-out to Soul of Sovereignty Prelude. holy fucking moly. this one is far shorter than Misericorde, even including the Chapter Two that was released a couple months ago. oh my fucking god, man. get in on the ground floor of this one.

it is a love letter and also a wake-up call to jrpgs. it plays with jrpg tropes in an amazing and fascinating way. i am going to review it in a way that will hopefully resonate with some of us here: if kefka is one if your favorite final fantasy villains you should play this.

i'm not sure if it really landed for me when i was a kid, since i remember so little of it. i've been enjoying it a lot more this time through! that said, i'm a huge maya fey fan so losing her is a lot but trucy and older-and-more-jaded ema do a lot to make up for it. apollo is a fun protag and the new take on phoenix is very interesting.

i have no plans on replaying aa5 or playing aa6 lol. i am a shu takumi truther

likewise. she'll be starting Yakuza Kiwami soon but right now she's replaying one of her favorite games of all time: Psychonauts, which is just as entertaining to watch and just as funny. i'm so glad they eventually got the sequel they deserved

we're also switching back and forth playing through our latest gamefly rental: ASTRO BOT. only about one world in but i can definitely see why this was a dark horse contender for GOTY last year. the level design is crisp and i would probably like it a whole lot more if i had, like, any level of playstation nostalgia. it was the same with astro's playroom, the ps5 pack-in. really fun to play but all the fanservice is for people who aren't me lol. and that's fine! i can still point and go "hey i know that one!" when i see a bot in an outfit i recognize. i just don't have a lot of attachment to most of them on account of my first sony console was a ps4 lmao

So we finished Split Fiction last night, and man the last stage/chapters blew my mind with how good they were!
Can someone not so great at video games be the second player for this? IDK if you played It Takes Two, but that was like pretty much the limit for my wife (we didn't finish lol). She's able to do Portal 2 co-op together, though.

Split Fiction is more difficult for sure. There are a lot of quick reflex or precise timing parts. My girlfriend and I are both longtime, avid gamers and we struggle through some sections occasionally. It's very generous with respawning somebody who died as long as you're not both dead at the same time, so boss fights and that kinda thing aren't bad. For platforming sections, it'll respawn you caught up with your partner typically, but that can also be annoying because it's really obvious when you're being carried. It's also obvious if one person is much faster at getting through a section, even if the slower person doesn't die, which I could see getting demoralizing for somebody consistently slower.

Personally I wouldn't recommend playing it with somebody who isn't generally a gamer.

I found Split Fiction to be easier than It Takes Two (we play it on regular mode). There's only been 2 areas in which I had to give my husband my controller but I think for the most part, we're even and take turns "carrying" the other 😅. Some levels are pretty different from others so it's possible that you're not great in one mode but then the next mode is fine/easy.

I should add we often play it while one or both of us isn't sober, so that may be contributing to our difficulties. And by "struggle" I mean we might have to attempt something a half dozen times if it requires precision from both of us.

You should be able to get through the game if at least one person is good, I'm just not sure it'd be fun for the other person if they're constantly dying. There are some parts that a single player won't be able to do both roles, so they will have to be somewhat competent.

@Gloom-is-good did you do the side story with the gorilla and fairy? That one felt a lot harder than the rest of the game up to that point.

Yes, that was one of the points my husband had to do for me! The flying through rings just fucked me up because everything is "opposite" and I kept just nose-diving. I just can't with flying in games and is a big reason I don't play flight simulators, etc 😆

The rest of the game certainly would be more challenging if one/both players aren't sober. At one point my husband was nodding off so we kept losing during a boss fight 😤

For me, I feel like the game is quite forgiving in that I don't necessarily have to be super precise all the time throughout gameplay. I also tend to button mash when I panic but (most of the time) that doesn't work against me like it would in other games.

Yeah, I played It Takes Two. I think that ITT was more casual-oriented than Split Fiction, which demands a bit more of the players. I think you'd be able to do it, but as @Kat said it might detract from the enjoyment if one person keeps dying and needs carrying. My brother and I are both pretty seasoned gamers and we made it through without that much effort, and fully sober I'll add! :link
