So much golden material to be had, for sure. :chuckle

The fact that it wasn't the first time they'd done something vaguely-related, nor were they alone in having done so, and the thing that had the reactionary children all up in arms wasn't even properly "real" was just too much. Like, goddamn.

The wild thing that gets me is how many times we’ve seen shit like this play out, and then the most vocally oppositional end up coming out years later. Reminds me of people that grew up homophobic, called every other male a fag, and then ended up coming out of the closet. It’s the polar opposite of gay folks posing as straight to avoid conflict, yet the same exact thing. Insecurity.

Exactly. It's not even that, like, they don't find her attractive enough, or she's not convincing enough, or... whatever. It's literally just that she has the "trans" qualifier attached to her and trans = bad to them. So they have to go bulldoze their year's supply of Bud Light that they already paid for. 😂

I didn’t know that many people bought Bud Light to begin with… blue collar me always saw it as a “chick’s beer”.

The position, you meanie! :tease I didn't know the Ukrainian military had/needed, uh, spokespeople. Especially foreign ones? That's... that's very odd to me.

It’s asinine, that’s all. Ukraine is trending. Trans is trending. Someone in a PR office somewhere thought the idea would be GREAT.

Maybe it's because I have a small mouth, but both of these ladies have enormous grins? Is that... is that a requirement for being a spokesperson? I sort of assumed the speaking was more important, but, maybe it's both. :paranoid

It’s the eyes. There’s a very Hide the Pain Harold vibe behind them.

I'm not entirely sure what I think a 46-year old journalist/combat medic/military spokesperson is supposed to look like, but, I think she looks fine and don't know that I would be able to tell based just on that picture? Passes a whole hell of a lot more than I do, at any rate!

You’d assume that such a position would elicit a more stoic approach to official photos… not a “pose for your dating profile picture” approach.

So fucking stupid, the whole situation. It's like someone putting up a billboard advertisement for spaghetti and someone hating Italy enough to destroy the whole billboard. There's a glass, dipshits. Pour out Mulvaney's juices and throw the visage away if you're THAT offended. Fuck.

“DRINKING BEER OUT OF A GOT DAMN GLASS, FUCK’S WRONG WITCHU?! I AIN’T DRINKING AMERICA’S BEER OUTTA NO GOT DAMN GLASS LIKE A FUCKIN’ SISSY!”

Still hilarious how many people went around destroying beer they purchased, though. ...and the hypocrites that were later photographed enjoying said beer.

No difference between that and dipshits bitching about child labor on their 4-figure iPhones.

SB 100fuckyou.

Wherein all those concerned with the gender identity, expression or genital compilation of another human being can swiftly find a pole and shove it straight up their ass, sans lube, until it tickles the insides of their brains. This bill would incorporate changes to any and all humans deemed dumb motherfuckers and would be enacted immediately.

The fact that Newsom did that as a means of pandering to Right-wing assholes is probably the saddest part. They wanted to recall you, Captain Dumbass, do you really think throwing trans kids under the bus is going to help your future presidential run? Way to make more people hate your guts.
Agreed, 1,000%!

Which I mean, neither of those are even necessarily intrinsically malevolent/evil, but to do that on literally every issue - including ones wherein you're discussing the nature of a person's existence to one of those people - isn't it.
This is what really rubs me the wrong way. These talking points are obviously very hurtful to trans people. Is it so hard for them to consider how little they know about being trans before spouting off about all the things trans people shouldn't be allowed to do?

Those particular people have no desire to learn about what trans is. At all.

That's great! I'm pleasantly surprised I haven't seen any outrage about this.

They’re gonna get mad at Bud Light for “making them gay” or something that off-base when they start to believe the beer goggles are so strong that they couldn’t distinguish her from the rest. It’s gonna be hilarious, believe that.

IMO it's not just "those people" who are guilty of it. Maybe it's what Raine said:

But, certainly, there are subjects most know they shouldn't broach without extreme caution and consideration - trans issues aren't in that ballpark yet. And the subject of trans children/youth, in particular, is one of those things you either understand is a (multilayered) attack or you're merrily skipping through a minefield with.
I've had people I consider friends and who are generally liberal and supportive of queer people spout off stuff like "no trans women in women's sports" or "no medical care for trans kids" or "the trans woman at work is complaining about cramps, what a stupid lie, she doesn't even have a uterus". The vast majority of people are surprised to learn hormones can give you menstrual cramps, but why assume it's a lie just because it seems strange? Why assume so many doctors are performing improper medical procedures on children instead of assuming maybe doctors know something you don't? It's so frustrating that misinformation has permeated media so much that people just take that bullshit at face value.

Remarkably common, unfortunately. Especially in the case of trans women that are non-white, also usually winds up with them being found dead.

Oh I’m aware, and those dipshits just need to stop being insecure and just admit that *maybe* that’s just what they’re into and move forward and be happy for once in their miserable existence.

I just wish I could somehow smash a book into their heads hard enough that they could actually learn that it's okay.

First, it's okay to be gay! I'm gay, it's amazing. I literally fart fucking rainbows goddammit.

That actually sounds kinda problematic in the scenario where some discretion would be necessary… like a funeral or something. You should problem see a different doctor if the one you’re already seeing doesn’t see the issue with prismatic flatulence.

But also,

IF PEEPEE HARD CUZ TRANS WOMAN HAWT, NOT GAY. PEEPEE SMRT, KNOW WOMAN WHEN SEE SENSE(?) WOMAN.

Right? If you have such a hard time distinguishing, then *maybe* that line ain’t so blurry in their head after all.

In fairness I was totally out of the loop on this one until it happened. Wish someone had filled me in, lol.

People are totally happy in their ignorance, it's such a shame because a little understanding, a little education and the world is suddenly treating trans people as, wait for it...people! But nah, thems just ladyboy freaks that are just gays who want the meat monster in a new hole. Totes.

Give her life. Or at least give her some damn time.
Lolol she used a phone in her name while at home. :chuckle We better watch out for that criminal mastermind.

IMO a few years for a bomb threat that didn't actually involve a bomb is about right. The real problem here is people spreading lies about the hospital in the first place. We need to go after them for inciting violence against a hospital, not all the idiots who fall for it.

I agree there's currently nothing that can be done to stop the source of the problem. I don't think it's even technically illegal to intentionally spread lies you can reasonably predict will result in violence. Probably the most consequences that can result is being sued for libel or defamation, and we've seen how long that can take and how people manage to hide their assets.

I doubt Americans in general will be open to restricting speech in such a way to make this sort of thing criminal. And the right wing knows that.

None of this is sustainable. Something really bad is going to happen; has to happen, because it's all just going to keep pushing forward and escalating. And, assuming they're still around, our Stable Genius™ leaders will be all shockedpikachu.jpg about how this horrible thing could possibly have happened, how no one foresaw it and nothing could be done to prevent it, and anyway here's some meaningless legislation let's go back to whatever we were doing before... 👀
Something horrible DID happen: Trump spread election lies and got a mob to attempt a violent coup. If that doesn't demonstrate the danger, I don't know what will.

The thing is, we already restrict the complete freedom of speech. .... Everyone accepts those as normal and acceptable
Completely agreed. There's no reason that intentionally spreading lies which result in tangible harm should be legal, and there are lots of cases where it's already not. But you know everybody who buys into propaganda and conspiracy theories will cry "but who is to say it's really a lie!!!"

there's a lot of doom and gloom in this thread (understandably so, the world sucks rn lmao) but i want to bring some good vibes in

as a lot of you know, my day job is a high school history teacher. been at it for eight years now. been at my current school since jan 2020, so the entire time i've been here i've been ms. lastname. on occasion i've encountered some students who were kind of shitty about me, but those events have been happening less often the longer i've been here.

anyway, the good vibes! earlier this year the world history teacher introduced some young trans freshmen (i didn't want to assume but it seems they're both transmasc) to me since there were some students who were being rude to them in class and the teacher wanted them to know they're not alone. ever since then they always get super excited and wave to me whenever they see me walking into the building in the morning. this morning they saw me and waved and one of them went "you're so PRETTY" and it was so cute ffhfgdh. as i was walking through the door into the building i heard one of them say "i love her..."

it ain't easy being a trans teacher in this political climate (especially given that i teach american history lol) but i just keep a low profile for the most part and i've been at this school for nearly four years now without incident. i know administration has my back and the demographics of my school and the area it's in mean that it's not super likely i'm going to encounter a parent/student who makes it their mission to make my life miserable. things are nice.

I love that, you impacted those two just by being you. It has to feel amazing being a student and knowing there is at least one member of staff that understands what they're going through. Amazing!

Oh, how are you doing, btw? I haven't prodded into things since your surgery, so nosey bitch has to be nosey, lol. Everything ok?

That's great, Marina! I'm super glad to hear everything's going well and you can help the next generation be more comfortable along their journey. :)

If I could, I would just take all of the doom and gloom into myself and put that crap to better use. Unfortunately there's a little too much of it going around. :giggle So positive things are always nice to hear about!

The winner of the bronze medal, Nandini Agasara, was also competing for India and beat Barman with 5712 points to her 5708.

So I was just reading a book (the author of which is trans) and they say being trans is a birth defect. Something about that makes me uncomfortable, but I can't really argue with your body being the wrong gender being a "defect", and the consensus seems to be that it's from birth soo I guess it checks out? I dunno, what do you guys ladies think? Maybe it's just the negative connotation of "defect" that's rubbing me the wrong way.

I call it a defect at times. I think a biological hiccup is more appropriate, or biological accident, but I do at times refer to is a birth defect, because at the end of the day it is.

So apparently acknowledging that trans men can get cervical cancer and having staff declare their pronouns infringes on women's rights somehow? Oh no, I only wanted my gender to get cervical cancer, how dare trans people make me share.

Why are there specific wards for women anyway?

It's amazing what trans people can't get, isn't it? Who knew trans women couldn't have period symptoms? Wish someone would tell my body that! Trans men must not be able to get pregnant, either...
Why are there specific wards for women anyway?
The only reason I can think of would be maternity, but even then that's exclusionary of trans men.

If it's just a ward that specializes in a certain area of healthcare then people of all genders are generally allowed in it, aren't they? They're making it sound like anyone who isn't a woman is completely banned. Presumably doctors, nurses, and family members aren't restricted to only women. I'm pretty sure fathers are routinely welcomed in maternity wards.

Obviously this would be stupid even if it was a 100% women's only area for whatever reason, but I doubt that's the case.
