Yes, you pick an opponent and go head to head against them. Since you'd be the one initiating the duel I believe you'd be in charge of deciding the amount of coins on the line. Just can't be more than the poorer player can afford.

@Nae'blis Boo has used a Reverse Mushroom on you, so you must go backwards this turn. Oddly enough, your magic lamp is one of the few items that can counteract the curse (Mushrooms and Warp Blocks also do), but I don't imagine you want to waste it when you can't afford a star.

Roll your die like normal. All junctions you encounter can be used and will function the same, but until your turn ends or you take a different path you will be forced to move in reverse.

Heading backwards, you turn off to the cactus path and launch yourself to the left side of the board. Passing the bank space, you deposit the last of your coins into it. There are now 4 coins in the bank.
You land next to Yoshi on the item space. The reverse mushroom truly is more of a buff than a curse, especially on this map.
You, too, are sent to an Item Mini-Game.
