Bell Ringer is actually useful though. Ben used it for real and found a wolf, and it's been used effectively (for a brief moment) by wolves in a couple of games.

it requires luck, though. You have to know who the wolves are going to kill.

For what it’s worth if I was a villager I would give the win to the wolves if I had a choice. They did more than the Lovers IMO. Reward good play.

Bell ringer picks two people. If one dies they get the exact role of the other. But it’s one time use.

Sheriff doesn’t get exact roles or even definite proof of who the evil is, but it’s multiuse

Further to this, this is what Kelly tried to do in Vash's mafia game. Which is why his ploy almost worked.

Presenting a side where only you, the presenter, is going to win shouldn't ever work.

I do this in every game. When Vash outed me as the SK in another game, I told the wolves that they had better not vote for me because he was coming for them next.

The thing I learned about playing this game is that:
Most of the emotional appeals in Wolf are complete bullshit kabuki theatre.

"OH NOOOOO HOW DARE YOU VOTE FOR ME" are usually the words of wolves. Townies don't get AS invested in the game, and don't care as much about dying... At least not until the game is very close.
