...yeah, be careful with those shirts, they can get you called out, too. I was the quiet kid in high school (shocker?!?), and I once wore one that said "CAN YOU HEAR ME NOW?!" and it got me called into the school administration offices for two hours of questions because they thought I was planning something. Apparently being the socially anxious, leave me the fuck alone type makes you very much a stereotype. So...hey, be careful with funny shirts.

The shirts I was wearing as a teen and young adult meant little as a white dude with a shaved head. Hell, even before the shaved head my crowd was clumped together as “Columbine kids” the year after that happened. If I hadn’t had the friends I did that would say otherwise, I would have been labeled a skinhead more frequently than I was.

Pretty universal, it seems. Conform to the norm or be hated.

High school prepared us for that “majority rules” bullshit.

At least you had friends :)

Key word: had.

Of that crowd, I’m the only one left alive that isn’t spending the rest of my days in prison. I started gravitating to GW right around when they started dying off and getting killed. The very last surviving one died at the end of last year, a day after telling me that he wishes he would die, after battling complications from an injury he sustained in a fall, including blood clots and nerve damage.

More like majority sucks because holy fuck, the majority of people were awful pieces of shit.

Such is the case still. Ever listen to any vocal majority? Buncha parrots.

Damn, that's awful about the last one, I'm sorry. I hear you though, and I'm glad you gravitated to GW rather than that. You know how well we work together on things down the years, I'd have 1,000 Marks if I could!

Yes, which is why I keep to myself and shut the majority out. I don't have time for that nonsense.

It’s the smart thing to do, otherwise you end up catching shit from every angle like I do, because I can’t just keep my mouth shut or resist questioning stuff.

I knew the dude since I was 6 years old, he was the first friend I made after moving to a new school zone. Former combat veteran, former cop, survived all of that only to essentially get taken out by a slippery shower floor and a ceramic soap dish that protruded from the shower wall. He ended up lying on the floor unconscious for 3 days until another friend got into his apartment because no one had heard from him and the police were useless. He survived that, but ended up having clots form on one side of his body, which then led to nerve damage and the inability to use the arm he was laying on during that time… his dominant arm.

Same, Mark is one of the few good dudes in a world of douchebaggery and assholiness.

There’s nothing special about me, dude. I just treat people the way I want to be treated, until they don’t reciprocate, and then I treat them accordingly. I definitely have a reputation for being an asshole and unapproachable in my personal life, though. I’m very conscious of who I surround myself with these days, and have no qualms about cutting ties with people if need be. In turn, people think I’m blunt, crass, and a number of other choice words because of it. I just don’t care for people that treat other people like shit, and when someone does… I won’t hesitate to say it, especially if no one else will. I think that’s part of the reason that my group of friends was so ragtag back then. We had whites, blacks, a Pakistani, a gay guy, a trans man, and a guy with cerebral palsy all hanging out at the same table during lunch… and if someone crossed any of us, it was on. GW was the closest I could ever get to replicating that kind of crowd again, because, where I’m from? Good luck getting people like that to sit at the same table now. You can’t even get family to do that anymore.

That absolutely sucks, and as shitty as it is to say it, I'm glad he's at least at peace now, not suffering.

No one deserves to be stuck in a situation like that, 3 days?! Awful!! No wonder he wound up with such horrible complications. He sounds like he was a genuinely good person, too, what a horrible thing to happen.

Absolutely. He was miserable, and the only reason he didn’t commit suicide was because he wanted his kids to receive the benefits they would be entitled to after he died. It hurt to lose him that way, but, it is what it is. The good die young, and he was among the best you could hope for in a friend.

I make no bones about the fact I struggle all the time with suicidal ideation, so I know that hell, too. Kudos to him for riding that hell out, as awful as it was, for his kids. You're damn right the good always die young.

Yikes, how awful. I live alone and frequently wonder how long it'd take somebody to find me if something like that happened. =\

Yeah, that’s something that weighed on me quite a bit, just a couple years prior to that I was living alone and estranged from my family while going through processing what was my newly discovered PTSD and a heart issue related to stress. That’s part of the reason why him and I were in such constant communication up until his death. We had a buddy system, with him being a retired combat vet looking to naturally medicate and me being a repo man from the hood who smoked pot to forget people tried to kill me. For years, he couldn’t indulge when he was in the service or on the force, so as soon as he was freed up… he started smoking again. His mental health was doing much better up until that injury, so, I guess it worked out until fate had other plans.

One of my favorites was one that said “Fuck you, you fucking fuck.” because I used to get a rise outta making people give me disgusted looks.

These days… I don’t need a shirt for that. It’s great.
I have that shirt in my closet!! I have not worn it.. and also it wasn't originally mine

My cousins got me one that says "Do I look like a people person?" Also have not worn it

I feel like even though I have a bad case of RBF, my shortness and overall vibe makes me fairly approachable. I'm indifferent about it. If I want to be left alone in public I just put my headphones on.

Dude, my girlfriend has known me since she was six, and has finally come to the realization in the last couple years that that’s just what my face looks like. Seeing us in public is the most ridiculous bullshit, because you’ve got me in a black tee and jeans not saying shit and her with bright hot pink hair and bright makeup and bright clothes that won’t shut up. Total polar opposites.

Pulled one out the drawer yesterday that I'd forgotten about;

Probably par for the course. I always leaned nerdy with my t-shirts.

I think the only offensive one I ever recall owning was from SomethingAwful. Coincidentally, it was the t-shirt I was wearing when I met @VashTheStampede and @Christina a little over 18 years ago.

I don't understand the front part of the shirt but I really want it for the back of it 😆

Omg that was a whole adult ago

Yep, 6,598 days. It's very almost exactly half my life ago, rounding to 37 putting it at 18.5 years.

That's grape flavor.
It's lucky you can't smell pictures because I can assure you it seems like it's rotten egg flavour!

Do me a favor, and don’t fuck with the ostriches and emus. Those guys might try to square up with you.
Emus aren't too bad. It's their near cousin the Cassowary that is the real Australian danger.

I’ve heard it’s incredibly peaceful there as long as you avoid the party crowds. I’d love to take a trip there one day.
Indeed, it was very peaceful. I was there for a friend's birthday; there were eight of us in an air bnb house that was in a private cove with other houses of year round dwellers. No party crowds, thankfully. The weather was great too. The highs were in the 70s, and the water was still plenty warm.

That’s pretty much exactly what we’re dealing with here in the Outer Banks now that the remnants from Debby have finally left the region.

The way all these houses are built just seems really weird to me, like they're all super tall to see above the relatively low tree coverage, but it just makes it really clear where the neighbors are. I'm guessing that's near water, if I see a bridge in the background? That might make more sense why they'd want to be up higher, especially if considering flooding.
