My two cents is that this is basically the problem, yeah.

The argument for Night 0 is that that's the only way to get information, else we're functionally just shitposting.

The argument against Night 0 is that it deprives someone from being allowed to play, which does kind of suck.

A compromise solution, then, may be to not allow people to die on Night 0 - but to have a series of actions that are made public. It's... tricky, but I'm thinking if not actual Role Actions, perhaps a (very) brief questionnaire? I mean still functionally shitposting, but in a potentially constructive way?

I don't know, it's Saturday and I've been out of bed for like 20 minutes. Just a thought. :chuckle
I feel like a badge for being killed night 0 helps counter the not getting to play. Plus there are so many games running back to back that you're not missing out on that much. So long as the same people don't get picked on repeatedly, it should be fine. Maybe we can agree to an unofficial policy of not killing someone who was killed early or didn't play in the previous game?

I began to go down that path, but then: If you're limiting what someone can choose from, you're also limiting what information you can glean from it and sort of missing the point.

Like, hypothetically speaking, if some ass backwards alignment happened wherein I'm a wolf calling the shots/wielding more influence than others... I'm never killing Cole, shortkut, et al, Night 0. Anyone that knows me knows that and I get a little higher on their suspicions list. But if everyone is taking out, I don't know, Local Hero or Killface Night 0 because they have to...

At least in my games going forward im getting rid of the targeting night 1. You won’t know who you are using your actions on.

That will at least address the immediate problem of certain people literally not being able to play specific roles. I don't have time to participate for a little while, but I'll be interested to see the results.

I might theorycraft something at some point, maybe attempt to whip up an actual game on it. Worst-case scenario it ends up being a complete disaster and will be an entertaining afternoon lark. :paranoid

How would this work?
You just get a random read back kind of deal? What about kill and protection roles?
Night 1 everyone will be told their role and their number (1-16, randomly given). All people with night roles can choose to target a specific number, not knowing who it is. Day 1 I’ll announce what number belong to which players and then we proceed as usual.

I assume you won't end up targeting yourself?

You’d be told your own number so would be kinda dumb
Got it! Didn't realize you'd be told your own number and was concerned with being given 1-16.

night 0 is stupid imo

I'd rather everyone get a day to play at least before someone's dead even if that means the first day is less likely to result in a successful lynch.

day 1 voting is still dumb unless people are sure with or without night 0

Everyone getting a chance to play is the best way to play I think.

Is it great as a wolf to have someone off the board night 0 sure, but I'm playing for fun and if it means I get to have more fun with more people I'm all for no Night 0

What's the point of having a day 1 that you're not going to vote in if there's no night 0?

Among Us doesn't start with a meeting, it starts off with everyone in the dropship and then splitting up to do tasks or kill their friends.

It makes no sense to have any discussion or voting if absolutely nothing occurs and no info is gained by some players.
