30 Days of Games

Baldurs Gate 3. I agree with JS assessment of it. It's probably fantastic, I just couldn't get into it at all, and I played BG2 way back when. It's totally my type of game but it was either too complicated or none of the companions made me want to come back and play.

Random one that I still don't get is Undertale. So much praise about it so I gave it a shot. I still don't understand why people like it so much. Must be something meta that I missed because I thought it was a waste of time.

Sonic is another one that I just never enjoyed playing. I never had a Sega console so I missed the boat on them, and when I do get a chance to play them, they bore me.

Camera angle is a little off, it got a lot better with the rerelease of MGS3 (Subsistance?) and after that, but the first few games yeah, little clunky camera
Oh, what I remember of my play time of MGS 3 was my dislike of the stop 'n' pop gameplay that is also present in RE4. Back in those days, I liked more run and gun games (still do), and felt that being forced to stand still in order to shoot was clunky. Of course, now, since my aim is so trash with analog sticks, I might as well be playing a stop 'n' pop game.

I also am not a fan of RE4, not being able to walk and shoot even slowly made no sense for a game like this, I also hate the ammo system. I get punished for conserving ammo in that I find less of it

Gonna go back and list Yoshi's Island as Most Underrated because I forgot the world has gone fuckin mental.
Yoshi's Island is a beautiful game, but I don't like playing The Worst Minigame basically every time I want to attack an enemy. I'll have to play it again tho cause the last time I did, I was a child

Good answer. I feel the same way. The writing is a bit funny, and the combat is really unique and entertaining. It's a decent game, buy I still don't get its massive popularity.

You reminded me of Vampire Survivors, too. Seems like a pretty run-of-the-mill "my first attempt at game dev" game. No idea how it reached such popularity.

In my experience the people who hate the controls usually don't even know about using the shoulder buttons to lock your aim in place.

Adds a whole new dimension to the gameplay IMO

I enjoyed GTA IV far more than I did GTA V. It may not be as polished as what V was, but I enjoyed the story & setting more. It was the game on the 360 I sunk most of my hours into, so personal bias, lol.

100% agree, I liked V, but it felt far more generic and less polished and too unfocused due to the multi protags

Also IV gave us Lost & the Damned and the excellent Ballad of Gay Tony

Definitely not for me neither. People have tried to get me into it, but I just can't.

That was my main issue with the game, not to mention the story felt shorter than its predecessors. I know a lot of the focus has went more towards the online aspect, but it happened at the detriment to the single player experience, which unfortunately, seems to be a recurring theme in today's games and why I find myself not as hyped as I used to be.

I've heard this complaint before, but I've never understood it. There are fewer main missions in GTA5, sure, but they're longer and way more varied than GTA4. The game controls better, and has more customization options, too. Driving seems to be a mixed bag, but I find it more enjoyable because it's faster and rmore responsive than GTA4.

TLatD is even worse -- almost every single mission is "go to place, have a massive shoot out where most of your gang members get wiped out" or "blow up moving vehicle".

GTA5 doesn't have any single player DLC, but some of the online-only missions are excellent. The online heists and Doomsday Heists are extremely high quality and fun. The only annoyance is trying to find a dependable team.

I think its how the game subverts a player's expectations of morality based systems by actually punishing you for doing anything bad, even after you attempt to start over or do a new game after completing it. Undertale's fanbase is known for being among the most toxic in how defensive of their precious game they are. The classic "You didn't understand it because you aren't smart enough" type shit. It's honestly kinda similar to the assholes who shit on gamers who can't wrap their head around the bullshit and unfair difficulty of the Souls games.
Fortnite. Never did understand the appeal of that game.
I can see the appeal, but I know the genre isnt for me
"Fortnite Battlepass. I just shit right out my ass."

I hate Battle Royale games. I hate Fortnite even more because of two reasons on top of the BR system:
1. Destructable cover means NO COVER.
2. Epic Games found a money making machine and they will never make another Unreal Tournament game because of it.

I enjoyed GTA IV far more than I did GTA V. It may not be as polished as what V was, but I enjoyed the story & setting more. It was the game on the 360 I sunk most of my hours into, so personal bias, lol.
GTA V is a total blast for someone like me who just wants to drive around a realistic looking world, while jamming out to some tunes without worry about shitty traffic or cops.

I like GTA IV, as well, but it's driving mechanics and cramped roadways mean you can't as easily just relax and drive around for funsies.

Hell, GTA V is the only game in the series that has the whole world unlocked you to explore. I despised that about GTA Vice City. You give me a fictional Miami to drive around, but I'm restricted to this tiny fucking area at the start because of reasons.

I would LOVE a Remake of IV done in V's style

This is why I mentioned the GTA 5 single-player as being a bit underrated. People often say that and maybe story wise I can understand preferring 4 but the missions themselves are vastly better in 5. Going back and playing a lot of people's favourite GTA 4 mission (Three Leaf Clover) it's frankly pretty bad.

TLatD was just so medicore.

I'm going to add some information to this:

Back when I first got a chance to play Vice City when it hit the Xbox, I had already had experience playing in other games that had fully unlocked open worlds to explore. The Italian Job (PS1/PC game loosely based on the Michael Caine movie), Midnight Club 2, Midtown Madness 3, and even Driver 3, all started with full open worlds/cities to explore without having to progress in the story campaign. Some even had multiple cities to explore from the onset. And when you get to play Midtown Madness 3's free roam mode, it takes a while for anything else to come close to being as enjoyable. They give you control over the weather and traffic density and there's no performance hit to maxing out the traffic while dumping snow on Washington DC.

Most Overrated Game: For me this is is a toss up between Bloodborne and Final Fantasy VII.

I'm a Fromsoft fanboy, so saying Bloodborne might sound weird. The game is fine I suppose but it's nothing special but watching nearly everything gaming community trip over eachother to praise it, say it needs a remake or a sequel or whatever - I don't get it. The game abandons a lot of what From does well. There is absolutely no build variety and this kills replay value. The technical performance and frame issues were a disaster. The story was not interesting and the design was not varied at all. The chalice dungeons while a novel concept were absolute trash. I will be beyond disappointed if they ever make a second one.

Now when it comes to Final Fantasy VII, I truthfully do not understand the insane amount of hype. The only thing I can chalk it up to is that it was probably a lot of people's first RPG, or close to it. The unpopular opinion is that I'll take VIII and IX over it with ease. Then the remake treatment of the game took an already mediocre story and stretched it out and added a bunch of padding. I literally cannot name a single aspect that VII does better than another Final Fantasy game.

I mainly see people wanting a PC release, which I totally understand. But yeah I don't see the point of a Remake. It looks incredible still and messing with the frame rate would require an overhaul of the the backend and would likely just lead to problems. Leave it be.

I will be beyond disappointed if they ever make a second one.

Ok let's not get crazy

One thing I did appreciate about the missions though. They were longer and had some nice variety to them, which was exactly what GTA needed.

I almost put the original VII, but I find it far more enjoyable than the stretched out cringe fest, at least with the English voice actors, than the remakes

I like IX more, I for the most part put VII and VIII about the same, I dont get the love for VII's characters, or at least Cloud and Tifa, they are both painfully boring for me

I know some things were lost due to the translation, all I wanted was an actual remake with expanded character moments and better translation

I will say it was important game so I cant over look that and I would still replay it over any game I listed

Fighting style: I'm usually partial to whatever is the most basic brawler/fighter type style a game has to offer.

Overrated Game: *TRIGGER WARNING* Breath of the Wild. I have tried like 7 or 8 times to give this one a go and everytime it feels the game itself is fighting against me having any fun or enjoyment. Im half convinced I'm in some Truman show simulation where everyone is in on it except for me.

Ooooooooh, good one. I forgot about this! It's considered one of the best games of the decade and I remember liking it, but not getting the insane hype. 4 small dungeons, lots of wandering aimlessly, too little narrative, and the cutscenes themselves felt shallow.

I put it down for almost a year after doing 3 dungeons and countless puzzle things. I eventually beat it but I just did it to say I finished it.

I didn't even bother with the sequel.

One of my favorite games (well, top 25, I guess), but I totally get it. For me, it's a sort of "zone out and go wherever you see something in the distance that interests you" sort of games. I think TotK is a much better game, because there are more tangible and unique rewards in the world, compared to BotW which is much more empty, and much less rewarding.

I think BotW is a special game and one of the best ever made.

That said, I COMPLETELY understand how it doesn't resonate with a lot of people. I also understand when people consider it one of the worst Zelda games.

I think it's an excellent pick for this topic.

The one thing that kinda keeps me from playing it:

Weapons breaking. This was a feature that I didn't like in Fallout 3 and New Vegas, but they made it easy by allowing you to repair the weapons in numerous manners.

Yeah I'm not a huge fan of the durability thing just because one of the things I love about games is finding cool unique weapons.

With a durability system lacking a repair mechanic you can literally only have one Cool Unique Weapon.

Nintendo boost and nostalgia are powerful and we're all suspectable to it, I don'tt think it's bad but not a game I want to play, not at the length of the game 15-20hrs then maybe other than durability issues

Seriously, I want to thank you all for the completely reasonable responses to my pick.

I've let that opinion out in some other online communities, and the response was decidedly less so.
I feel like we've all outgrown the console combat bullshit.

I still can't get over the fact that I just do not like the PS2 even now.

Neither can we! :ROFLMAO:
you'll have to excuse me, I don't like the muddy graphics. At least the majority of Gamecube and Dreamcast games can beplayed in 480p. Many of the PS2 games max at 480i. It feels like an N64 with better resolution and sound.

Nah there is something wrong with you. PS2 is elite you xbot.
