I'm way late to the party, but I figured I would answer a few of these.
Day 1: Your first video game -
Super Mario Bros. on the NES. My earliest memory of playing video games was this. I have a vivid memory of my brother getting me stuck in the wall near the end of one of the water levels and me being very upset.
Day 11: Comfort Game - I'll go with
Tecmo Super Bowl on the NES. This is my favorite sports game of all time and one of my favorites of any genre. I know I can pick it up and at any time and have a good time. Just pure, simple fun. An arcade style football game, but with all the teams, players, and full season mode (and stat tracking). And all the players had distinct attributes that truly made it a unique experience no matter what team you played with.
Day 22: Favorite in game quote - "Hey, you! How about lending me your clothes? No dice?! What a drag." - the king in
Super Mario Bros. 3 if you defeat one of the Koopa kids with the hammer bros. suit.
Day 24: Best OST
NES - There are so many great ones, but I'll list some of my favorites from the games I owned.
- Super Mario Bros. 3
- Tecmo Super Bowl
- Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 3: The Manhattan Project
- Gremlins 2: The New Batch - Sneaky good soundtrack from an actually good movie-based game.
Gameboy - This handheld is just as nostalgic as the NES for me, as it could accompany me on long road trips and such.
- Super Mario Land - The songs are so simple and yet so catchy, and they will forever be part of the soundtrack of my childhood.
- Donkey Kong '94 - I remember when I got this game, I was concerned that it might just be a port of the original arcade game, and I was pleasantly surprised it was so much more. Once you get past the first few levels that are like the original arcade game, it expands into a whole world of tons of levels. It's a really fun platforming puzzle game, and some of the jumps Mario uses in Mario 64 originated in this Gameboy game. I highly recommend checking this game out if you haven't before. "Hey, that's great. You were going to say something about the music?" Oh yeah, it's got some great tunes throughout, but it's still worth mentioning if only for this song that plays during the final showdown with Donkey Kong (complete with a rocking 8-bit guitar solo):
SNES - I didn't own this system growing up, but I have since discovered some great OST's on youtube (first two on the list) and the SNES Classic (next two on the list).
- Donkey Kong Country 2 - Plenty of bangers in this game. Stickerbush Symphony, Hot Head Bop, Mining Melancholy, Forest Interlude, In a Snowbound Land
- Chrono Trigger - What's not to love here? Peaceful Days, Corridors of Time, Schala's Theme, Guardia Millennial Fair, Secret of the Forest, Wind Scene, Frog's Theme
- Megaman X - So many epic tracks for an epic game. These songs perfectly capture the fast-paced action of this game. Even the password theme is super catchy.
- Yoshi's Island - Athletic Theme, Flower Garden, Underground Theme, the opening Music Box Theme, and of course the Map Theme that progressively adds more parts the further into the game you get.
Sega Genesis - I didn't have a ton of games for this system, as I received it as a gift from my uncle and only had the games he already had for it.
Earthworm Jim's OST stood out to me the most out of my limited library.
N64
- The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time - Almost seems cliche, but how could I not mention this game? Truly iconic music throughout. Majora's Mask has fantastic music as well.
- Goldeneye 007 - The music in this game truly fits the James Bond style and aesthetic perfectly. And they get every drop they can out of the classic Bond theme motif. I think what puts it over the top is the care, love, and attention to detail they put into all aspects. Even the pause music is awesome. Plus they composed not one, but two elevator themes that both sound great, all for an area you likely barely spent any time in.
GameCube - the last system I spent a significant amount of time with, and even then I didn't play a wide variety of its games. I have to go with
The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker. I could almost give it to this for Dragon Roost Island alone, but it has great music throughout. Outset Island, Windfall Island, The Great Sea, I also really like the music that plays during the intro. I'll never forget the first time watching the intro and getting pumped when the original theme song kicked it.
