My only Kojima experiences have been Snatcher, Twin Snakes, and MGS5.

I think that being divisive is his angle... Kinda like the Souls games. It's almost like he wants to alienate people that don't like his style, and lean into it more for people that do. It took me years to appreciate MGS, I had the original for PSX and didn't actually complete it until the PS2 era.
It's like he wants to distance himself from other games while still maintaining a familiarity that attracts people. It's a weird way of making games, but, he has definitely carved out his own style over the years.
One thing that I think Kelly will appreciate is all of the nods to other games strewn about the world. I thought it was cool as hell when I crested a hill and saw a Tallneck from Horizon projected on the grasslands.
You'll definitely like the game if you enjoyed those, because they're not as rehashed as some of his other titles. It just might take you some dedication to get beyond the beginning and how much of a slow burn it is.

Yesterday I started Ghost of Tsushima. I'm about 2 hours in and am enjoying it so far. The first hour was a little bit slow, but once you get into the open world and have more freedom, the game seems to pick up. I'm still trying to get the hang of the combat - I'm only on the medium difficulty but I've died a few times. The skill trees look massive, so I'm sure I'll get tons of new abilities, but it's a bit tricky to pick up at first.
I really like the wayfinding in the game. Although I suspect it will take marginally longer to get around the map, it's much more creative than having a minimap with an arrow pointing the way.

I STILL haven't started this game, and I've had it and all of its DLC installed on my PS4 for probably over a year now. I've heard nothing but great things about it, so, I have no clue what my deal is and why I haven't played it.

I saw Jill of the Jungle free on GoG a few nights ago and downloaded the whole trilogy. This was a random game my dad had on his computer when I was a kid. Probably not even in my tweens yet. Last night I started it and beat the first game in one sitting in like an hour or something. Good nostalgia kick that was.
Then afterwards I dove down into a weird rabbit hole after googling an address where the game's devs wanted checks mailed if you wanted to buy the game or any of the other ones. Then from there after fuffing around a bit more I noticed a familiar looking name. Tim Sweeney. THE Tim Sweeney. Main man of Epic Games and Unreal Engine. The guy made this game in his early adulthood and here I was somewhat nostalgic about it. Man. Weird as hell.

Update on BotW:
I actually don't mind the weapon durability system. Maybe its my Fallout game experience, but weapons breaking don't seem to be that much a hindrance. Keeps me from relying on a single weapon and keeps the game from getting stale. I've purposely decided to not pluck the Master Sword from the ground because I know I'll just use it in most situations.
I do think the inventory space is too limited and that it takes too many Korok seeds to add slots.
I've pretty much not done anything special to my cooking due to not being able to mix, match, and stack special effects via food. You can stack via clothing, but not food. So, bananas, durians, and radishes are my priorities. More hearts and higher damage have been the only special effects I've used. Only cooking meat for the rupees.
Been trying to do most of this game without a guide, but have had to resort to asking the internet on occasion, sometimes realizing that I was on the right path. Had to use the internet to find Fang and Bone for the first time because NONE of the game hints told me where his starting spot is.
I've mostly avoided mini-boss battles save for Hinoxes because of the amount of resources they'll use to take them down, especially Lynels. Stone Talus' are inconsistent due to where the the spot you're supposed to hit is. The one on the Great Plateau was easy. The one just east of the plateau was not because of the asinine location that made it nearly impossible to hit with a melee weapon. Hinoxes are cake as long as you have arrows to spare. Even if you miss the eye, you're still doing damage and it is SUPER easy to stay out of his attack range. Lynels are a pain in the ass because of their elemental arrows (I tried the one with the ice bow and gave up immediately) and the fact that you can only fury rush one attack from them.
I'm expecting to get bored before I get to Ganon. I did buy TotK for the Switch this weekend, so hopefully I don't get bored. Do kinda want to replay Windwaker at some point.

More than one. You can dodge its charge attack too, but it's tricky. You can also mount them if you hit them in the head with an arrow, and attacking them this way doesn't damage your weapon durability.

was the charge attack the one where he runs at me like a bull? if so, that was the only one I could figure out how to dodge and fury rush.

So for the first time since I've had kids, I'm going to take some sort of gaming handheld console with me on holiday at the end of this week. We're away for four weeks, so should get some time in even if I'm only playing when the kids are in bed (which is the idea). I haven't played a handheld consistently for a long time. The Steam Deck is probably a little too big. I've considered the 3DS, Vita and Switch. Very tempted by the Nintendo consoles because I've kind of missed that generation of games, but I dug out a Slim Vita, reset and reformatted it and put my account on it yesterday, and I've enjoyed playing around with it. I think I'm going to take that with me. I've been really enjoying Virtua Tennis 4. I put a lot of hours into Virtua Tennis 3 on the Xbox 360 when that came out originally, so VT4 very much feels like home to me. I'm going to decide on a few other games to take and I've downloaded the original Resident Evil games on PS1 onto it from my purchased list. But for now, it's VT4.
