Sony The PlayStation Platinum Club

Updated through here! :^

TD's trying real hard to bridge that remaining gap with his backlog! :giggle
He might succeed because the next thing on my list is bumping Cyberpunk up to 100%, so it will be a while before my next platinum. Also, my backlog of games I've already started is almost entirely tapped out. I only have 7 games with achievable platinums in it, but none of them are easy (maybe 8 - I'm not sure if I can still get Driveclub or not, but that is a game I really disliked).

Today I got the most difficult trophy in GTA5: Masterminds. At 0.51%, it's my rarest trophy.

If the online weren't glitchy shit, I'd be 100% finished with the game, but I have three trophies that haven't unlocked even though I met the requirements. If everything goes perfectly smoothly, it could take another 8 hours or so to unlock everything that I already ought to have unlocked 💩

New one for me: Hogwarts Legacy.

I had originally planned to clean up Dark Souls II next, but I'm waiting for a sale. In the meantime, I ordered Dark Souls III from a local game store, but despite the website saying it was in stock, they didn't have it when I went there today. I did track down the non-GOTY edition of Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor, so I'm going to get the DLC trophies for that. I'm hoping when the Playstation sales refresh later this week that one of those Dark Souls games will be there. Otherwise, I'm not sure what to go after next. Maybe GTA V?

Why the non-GOTY version specifically? I would think you'd want the GOTY version so that you have access to all content.

There isn't a lot of content for that game actually. They haven't released DLC. The only thing I think they've done is released the platform exclusives missions to all platforms.

There are DLC packs for that game, which is actually the source of my problems. I bought/platinum'd the game back in 2015, but never played the DLC. The GOTY edition has a separate trophy list, so I might have to re-platinum it (not sure if the save file will auto-pop), but then I'd still be left without the DLC trophies on the version that's already on my profile. I sold my copy of the game a while back; confusingly, although the game was available on PS+ (when I had it), it wouldn't let me play it due to some weird licensing problem. I only found this out after I bought the DLC already.

I have the same problem with The Witcher 3 for GOTY editions. I got the platinum within a couple months of it coming out, and never got around to the DLC. Then I sold my copy, and now most of the versions floating around are the GOTY edition with a different trophy list. I will eventually track down an original copy of that too because I hear The Witcher's DLC is excellent.

On another note, I caved and ordered the Dark Souls trilogy. I've never played the first game, but I'm gonna play them 2 --> 3 --> 1.

Hmm, really? Which ones? I swore the devs said there wouldn't be.
"The Bright Lord" and "Lord of the Hunt". I'm not sure what these are, but apparently they each take 8-10 hours to get all of the trophies, so they sound like full DLCs to me. I'm going to start them today.

wh........ why.
I know it doesn't make a lot of sense, but I don't think I'll have the willpower to play these 3 games in a short period of time. Because I'd already played 2 and 3, I want to get the platinums before starting a new game.

OH! Snap, lol. I was referring to Hogwarts Legacy not having DLC. Those are for Shadow of Mordor. Me dumb :link

I have not yet completed the two DLCs for Shadow of Mordor, but they are driving me nuts. Below is my rant on why they are so terrible:

The two DLC packs are basically the same. They each contain a campaign that takes about 5 hours to beat that is reasonably easy. They also contain another game mode, which is a trial of the various techniques that you learn in the DLC. The two trials have a couple of requirements to beat them, but they also need to be beaten in 40 and 60 minutes respectively. There's one trophy for each trial.

I started the 60-minute trial first, and while it is possible to beat it somewhat legitimately if you are insanely good, the most reliable method involves restarting the trial over and over again until you end up with a specific mini-game on the map that gives you a really powerful mount. For some reason, the specific mini-game that is needed has an awful spawn rate. I would bet there are maybe 6 of these mini-games, and I just spent the last 75 minutes or so restarting over and over again and only got it 3 times, but every other mini-game shows up easily.

Presuming you get the mini-game, you can cheese your way through this trial by backing up your save to a USB or via PS+ (through this process, it took me 30 minutes yesterday to get a working USB; I had to figure out how to reformat it into a version that is acceptable for my PS5; I also learned that apparently you can't backup PS5 games via USB anymore. They got rid of that feature so that you subscribe to PS+).

Unfortunately for me, the first time that I got the mini-game, I lost at it. I was waiting to backup my save until after the mini game, so I learned my lesson the hard way. The second time I got the mini-game, I backed up my save and was successful at it. The next step though, was to use the very overpowered mount that you get from the mini-game to kill 12 very strong enemies. I had read in one guide that the game automatically saves after you kill each one, so I thought that I would kill a couple of them, and then back-up my save in case I messed up. Again, I learned the hard way because, although it is true that the game saves after each of these enemies, you lose your mount if you exit the game. This means that you have to kill all 12 enemies in one go. I started over, but couldn't get the mini-game to appear again before giving up.

Everything I've described above is only the first two steps out of five towards completing the 60-minute trial. My understanding is that this is the least forgiving part, and abusing saves will be easier at the future steps. Regardless, I'm in for a brutal time.

I have heard that the 40-minute trial is more difficult because of the time constraint, but I don't think the actual requirements are more difficult, and from my understanding, it doesn't require constant restarting. I might switch over to this one if I have another night with no progress on the 60-minute trial.

Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor can now be upgraded to 100%!

The short version of how I got those 2 trophies - I switched to the other one I hadn't tried yet, massively abused backing up my save file and eventually succeeded. Then, on my very first try at the trophy I'd already tried many times before, the correct mini game spawned, and now that I am a bit more experienced at the game, I didn't lose my overpowered mount immediately. It still took a lot of save scumming to succeed, but I'm glad this is off the list.

Up next: Dark Souls II :/

Edit: I just noticed that our leader @Raine hasn't posted here since June 10th - anyone know if they're ok?

Finished MGSV: Phantom Pain today. Now I'll probably go back to 100%ing Rain World. If I get into a new PS3/PS4 game any time soon, it's going to be a short one. Doing GTA4, GTA5, and MGS5 back-to-back-to-back was exhausting.
.....................but I do have the mass effect collection staring me in the face.......

Another one down: Dark Souls III!

I'm not sure what game to do next: (1) Dark Souls Remastered (which I haven't started); (2) Mega Man Legacy Collection (started years ago, made another attempt last year, and don't like the game at all); or (3) GTA V (I've beat the game and have some other trophies, but I don't currently have PS+, so I'd need to buy it after getting all the single player stuff done).

I don't really like any of these options to be honest. I think I will leave GTA V for last because once I buy PS+, I have a handful of games I want to revisit (Resogun, Driveclub, and maybe COD WWII).

Also, I'll try tagging @Crystal this time - is it possible to give me the original post so I can update it?

Edit: I settled on starting Dark Souls Remastered :D

100%'d Rain World today. Not just the trophies, but everything. All pearls read, rainbow expedition slug unlocked, EVERYTHING done. I finally finished Challenge 70 today. Probably took about 5 hrs or so altogether. Made it to the final phase 3 times and died, but I finally finished it just now. Whew. Glad to finally be done with this game, but I really learned to love it over time.

But... The devs are releasing some new DLC later this year. Maybe I'm the only one that feels this way, but I don't care for DLC for 7 year old games. Move on to something else 😭

I've played more DLC in the last couple of years than in probably most of the time prior to that, and I would say I just don't care for DLC that much in general to be honest.

Even when the content is superior to the base game, I feel like I'm usually worn out by the time I get there.

I feel the same way. Usually when I get to the DLC I'm just like "ugh let's get this over with". Rain World's Downpour DLC was FANTASTIC, but it was huge. Way bigger than the base game, by a factor of like... ten.

I had to put it aside a couple of times and come back to it later. That way, I was able to enjoy it. But the problem is that usually when I start playing a game, I just want to finish it all at once and be done with it. I don't want to relearn controls, gameplay, etc., so I'd rather just finish it all at once, even if those extras become a slog because of it.

you can throw, ahem, "EA SPORTS College Football 25" (yes that is the official title) on there for me. normally i pass on platting EA games because they usually have several insane online requirements. this one was comparatively nothing, just enough ranked matches to hit the tier second from bottom

Done! Let me know if I'm missing anything - I can't seem to find your profile online anywhere.

I've done a bunch of EA Madden games (and one old NCAA game), and they're usually pretty brutal. The only one I'm missing on Playstation that I started was Madden 15 (or maybe 16?) - it required you to win several online games in a row, and I know that I came one game short several times. I wish I managed to get it before the servers closed though.

I only learned of Astro Boy a couple days ago and watched a gameplay vid. It looks awesome. Seems like such a fun and inspired platformer
Fair warning, it reminds me a lot of Mario Odyssey with relatively simplistic platforming (albeit with several different gimmicks).

There are a few (like 13 or so) more challenging shorter levels but it's more of a collectathon with a ton of PlayStation nostalgia as the hook.

Oh, from the snippets I saw it was giving me more Mario Galaxy than Odyssey. The platforming looked simple yeah but it seemed like they kept the gameplay fresh with varied mechanics. I'll still probably play it in a few years when I eventually get a PS5 haha

@Smacktard any advice for the GTA V stunt jumps? I just started working on them and they're super brutal. I feel like I can't control the car during the slow motion parts and get it to land successfully. I also have no idea where to reliably find a motorcycle in a quick way.
But a motorbike using your phone and keep it in your garage. Do all the jumps one after another. Most jumps should use the bike. You can adjust your pitch mid-air. Use guides for the tricky ones and a stunt jump map to plan them out. There are some that are real pains. Saving before a couple might be a smart idea if they're over water or something

This is amazing advice, thank you! I got the bike as you suggested, then knocked out about 10 of these with little difficulty.

I still think the stunt jumps are weird because sometimes I replicate the video guide I'm following perfectly and it says I failed. It takes a while to reload my save, but for a lot of these jumps, it's faster to do so.

For some of the jumps, if you land too far or not far enough, or both wheels don't touch down at the same time, it says the jump is failed. For a few jumps, you will have to buy a fast car -- there's a specific model used in some stunt videos -- because the bike doesn't get the right height or distance on some jumps.
