Look at Cole and I as Tom Brady and Brett Favre.
We've both retired from a game that we love and it sucks. But we're putting ourselves and our families first.
Now just like Brady & Favre, there is technically a smidge of a chance that a perfect storm happens and we come out of retirement - except Brady & Favre have accepted that the perfect storm has calmed and is unlikely to ever happen.

This was exactly my point with the metaphor, the perfect storm, and all that.You know they both unretired right?
Favre multiple times.
And neither worked on family. Favre doesn't have one and Brady divorced his.
Result? They both should keep playing. They are both better than 70% of the trash playing QB these days.

This'll be my last soapbox statement because I tried to have the conversation but no one was interested.
I mean shit, even Cole took the time to chime in and it was essentially met with a passive shrug.
These games are not built to last in this community but instead of working to fix what is broken, people push through until the next incident, pretend something was learned, rinse and repeat.
I want to be clear this is not an attack on anyone.
If you manage to get 16, best of luck to y'all. But there's a whole lot more to this than brush it off and move to the next game, we've seen with several people - the next game doesn't come.

I don't experience the same problems that others are having, so I'm not sure what would help. I'm not saying the problems don't exist, I'm just saying I don't know what would help fix them.
I still enjoy playing the games even if I end up losing, but I don't experience them the same way to be able to help much.

Yeah I'm the same. I can see there is an issue going on and I suppose have tried to contribute some thoughts on what I think is going on/how we might fix it. But if I'm honest I'm at a loss because I'm not impacted in the same way.
It seems to me the only fix would be to not play the games at all, and to be fair a lot of us are perhaps focusing our time on DnD to play games that have less impact.

That's why I tried to have a conversation.
At some point - it was decided that how you are in a game of wolf is how you actually are being to that person as an individual outside of the construct of the game.
That should never have happened and many of us are guilty of it.
I used to play aggressive as fuck, just like Cole. People may not realize but when people were getting offended, I kept pushing because I took it as in game. I messaged Cole that game, he reaffirmed that people weren't taking it as an in game move and ever since then, I've dialed back my play considerably. I've changed my fun so others can have more fun.
Now I find myself constantly considering if something being said is going to offend someone, we are playing a character in these games. We aren't actually murdering eachother or tossing holy water in eachother's faces.
So how did we get to the point that we've collectively blurred those lines so much that what we say in a game is taken as a real life comment? How do we come back from that?
If we can collectively come up with an answer to that, then maybe we can save Wolf.
And interestingly enough, the ones who have been the assholes or make an asshole play end up being the ones who feel like shit about it and walk away.

While this is the issue I'm not sure of the answer to it. For me, there has only been a handful of comments that I have interpreted as real life comments but again none of them were made about or to me.
I think some of the things we need to need to clearly set are:
- rules of engagement (eg. what are acceptable lies? what is acceptable to say to an opponent?)
- knowing your own limitations in terms of language use (eg. if personally I was in a position where I may come across wrong (which actually tends to happen a lot because culturally what is acceptable here is very different to there) I just delete the post)
- knowing other people's personal circumstances (this one is actually the most difficult one, because what might be fine to say to one person might not be the same for others)
So then if you try to cover all of that with blanket rules, does it make it a very vanilla game? Perhaps, but perhaps that is better if it means more of us can play and enjoy each other's company.
There's more but I have no idea how to word it. So I'll keep thinking.

I got pinged by shortkut, and honestly it's a little annoying that I keep having to say I'm not playing, so I posted again.
I miss playing, sometimes I get the itch, but it's just not worth it anymore. I can't play at any less than my full ability, which means I'll abuse every loophole, I'll read every post 6 times, I'll lie and manipulate with literally any evidence I have, snd I'll spend way too much time doing all of it.
and for the end result of that effort to be the shitstorm I get every single time? it's just not worth it. I have a lot less time now a days than I used to, and I'm not going to use that time on something that ends up with me getting anxious about relationships I genuinely care about. (see: the very public fight I had with Alu, he and I are fine, but I don't want that fucking anxiety, I'm not going to lose relationships over a fucking game of wolf.)
my point being, I don't see myself playing again.
there is no "perfect storm", might I some day decide to hop in, realize why I hadn't been playing in the first 24 hours and wish I hadn't joined? maybe. but it's not going to be from someone @ ing me into the thread, it's not going to be from people blowing smoke up my ass about my "skill" in this game. it's gonna be because I get bored enough to do it.
I'm glad the game is surviving, I still scan the threads (well really I search my name to see if anyone's mentioning me), and I'm proud when I see people refer to my strategies, or quote me, or mention me in whatever other way.
but I just can't devote my time to something that historically upsets people on this website.

The problem with trying to implement so many targeted rules is you never know what might trigger someone or when.
The simplest solution and I'm just going to say it:
There are no rules.
Anything said while playing the game whether it be day phases, dms, dead threads, or what - is within the context of the game.
If I go and rip into someone in Forum Statistics, that's an issue.
I'm a person with many triggers. I mean many. If you can't control those triggers, you walk away. You take a break. Maybe take meds if you got em or get high. You're in the middle of a game, go do some other shit then respond.

And the thing that fucking kills me is that we might not even be having this issue with these games right now if I took my own advice and didn't immediately act on a trigger.
Yet here I am, basically telling you to keep going and if something bugs you, don't do what I just did.

Speaking from experience as the others here can attest to as I've purposely sat out many games. It's a feeling that comes and goes. But when you're playing - if you hit those HIGHs like pulling off a wacky jailbreak then killing the warden? That's a great fucking feeling and you can get those too playing this.
