I have a naturalist ability or something like that. Would I be able to use that to find curative herbs or something?

Also, as for good communication skills, I want my character to sound like kind of like a limited-vocab flower child hippy when they talk. Would I still be able to have good communication skills while communicating, well, poorly? Like would I be able to influence someone even though my language wouldn't be that persuasive or commanding?
I don't see you having anything "Naturalist". You've got "Naturally Stealthy" but that's hiding related. You also have a Herbalism Kit, which you can use to gather ingredients, but they can't generally be used by themselves and you'd instead use them to...

What's the availability of healing potions and such?

Autocorrect wanted to make it hearing potions, which I guess isn't too weird in a DnD setting...
...Make potions. There are also other ways to acquire potions, say from NPCs or finding them. The main difference is that these can't be used mid-combat (you could drink a potion, just not make one in.)

A couple of you also have knowledge in Medicine, but this is more about non-magical, mundane medical expertise. The Medicine skill is used for tasks such as stabilizing a dying character (making them unconscious but not dead), diagnosing diseases, and determining the cause of death. It's again also not really useful mid-combat.

That last bullet seems to disagree with what you have.
I interpret that more explicitly as being able to light/extinguish a campfire that already exists. Not to create an entire campfire out of thin-air, so unless you're always fighting on top of a campsite your earlier proposed use wouldn't really work. That Create Bonfire spell does the whole thing from nothing.

One of my proficiencies is just "Nature". Wouldn't that mean the ability to find like magical seaweed that helps you regrow your nuts or something?

So we would have to gather and assemble firewood and tinder and stuff first for Alu's spell to work?

I'll just throw some preused logs under em first.

Ohhh, that. The "Nature" skill represents your knowledge and understanding of the natural world, including plants, animals, weather, terrain, etc. It'll help you interact with the natural world, identify creatures and plants, and navigate wilderness areas effectively. Might help you in identifying useful herbs, too, but it's not specifically for healing.

So we would have to gather and assemble firewood and tinder and stuff first for Alu's spell to work?
Right. It could basically be used to remove the ignition source, where otherwise you'd need a flint & steel, matches, whatever. He could probably use it to light your joints, too.

I missed replying on this, but I'd say yes. Anything you try to do that uses your Charisma skill would work like you'd expect, especially Performance based ones which you're more proficient in.

How you want to role play the character and "speak" won't negate any of that.

Just for giggles, I threw descriptions of your character sheets through my image AI to see what it'd give me. They're actually kinda dope.

Not saying you guys need to switch or anything. I just like finding ways to not do my actual job...

That first one for me looks pretty cool, the second one looks too young maybe? I like the beard for sure in the first one.

Is that what rock gnomes typically would look like? The last picture you generated for me did seem a bit more like a warrior, or gnome version of Thor, instead of a druid.

I definitely just made the originals off of what I thought looked cool, not strictly adhering to D&D precedents. I'd say in general most of the races don't look that adorable, but I also didn't do anything special to this and just let the AI go with it.

Actually I may as well just attach all the other ones I ended up making earlier, while playing around with style and stuff:

6456.png7653567.png134243.png634564356.png4353465.png34232.png24335.png8908908.png4564655.png23434243.png234234.png7897899.png23453254.png364464.png

Doing it with the character sheet description, I absolutely could not get it to generate a Tiefling without horns (though some of those are fire), and it insisted on making Short Order the cutest thing ever.

Is consistency important? I still like my mushroom hat-wewring pantsless psychonaut best, but I imagine that would be hard to achieve consistently
I guess it really depends on you guys. I was going to try to throw a lot of visuals into my campaign just to spice it up, and I could try to make it more personal to the party by including individuals, but it would also be a lot more effort to get it consistent either way. I could do it, or I can just keep the party out of images for the most part and just use it for setting the scene.

It's up to your discretion. If you work the Aryan twink version of my character into a visual, I can just imagine it as the psychonaut instead. Like you said, consistency would be extremely difficult with the visuals, so there's no point to strive for 100% accuracy. Something that gets the idea across well enough is great.

I'm pretty sure @Smacktard should be back now, so I'll try to get this kicked off tomorrow or Friday.

Just to get a little ahead of everything, could you folks post the times that you're usually going to be on have time to check-in/respond? You can drop it in your local timezone if you also give me the location, and I'll work that out. Going to try to narrow down a time that everyone might overlap and aim to get the bulk of play done in that time.

If there's no clear correlation, we'll just have to take it slower and see.

Myself, I'm usually on around 8:30-9am EST, then probably around 12-1pm, and my biggest chunk of time is going to be from about 9pm-12am. I can certainly check in at other times, but try not to distract my easily-distracted ass too much.

I'm EST as well, Tampa, FL area. During the workday I leave my personal computer on, so I'm able to check notifications throughout most of the day. After work I'm usually more sporadic between 6-9pm for familial obligations. But then I'm around from 9p-1a (sometimes a little later).

On the weekends, it's a crapshoot. Depends on if there is family plans or not during the day. I'm usually on 9p-2a though on the weekends.

Essentially, inactivity isn't something you need to worry about with me and if I'm unavailable, I am usually able to let you know well in advance.

In EST:
Fri-Sat: 00:01-14:00
Sun-Thurs: 07:00-14:00

These are my general "awake and not busy at work" hours. May not be available some times due to spending time with wife, w/e, but Sun-Wed I should always be free during these times

I'm at GMT +1, so if I counted correctly I should be 6 hours ahead of EST..

So that makes my hours the following in EST:
Mon-Wed 12:00-18:00
Thu 15:00-18:00
Fri 17:00- about 20:00
Sat 03:00-about 20:00
Sun 15:00-20:00

Weekend times depend on if we don't plan anything family wise, but I'll try to alert in time if something comes up.

EST normal awake hours. I check in the morning and then throughout the day when I'm not in meetings at work or super busy. When my wife gets home I check less often.

Weekends are tougher to be consistent. This Saturday I'll be fairly busy, but Sunday I think I'll be fairly open, for instance.

EST lad here. Weekdays between 10am - 2:30pm and then sporadically from work until midnight. Potentially staying up a bit after work too.

Weekends tend to be open from when I wake up until I crash. Barring the wife wanting to do anything.

{{I was only used to the definition of cheap seats, I was unaware of the other origin. I’ll strike it from my lexicon. Thanks for pointing that out
Certainly no blame meant, I'm just so in the habit of trying to break people at work of that kind of thing it's become second-nature. Same with switching all phrasing of "blacklist/whitelist" to "blocklist/safelist". I got my company to include Indigenous People's Day on the corporate calendar (though they didn't go as far as removing Columbus Day too.)

I claim trying to make up for being a dumb tool on the internet as a teenager.

Also thanks for deleting my other post, I was going to do that after I read your response}}
I just moved all the posts into this thread, I didn't delete anything. It was spoilered so not all that egregious.

In general, is that the type of suggestion one can make in dnd? It’s what I would have my character do in @VashTheStampede ’s campaign
It is. Really, absolutely anything would technically be possible in D&D.

It really all comes down to how much the DM wants to indulge you, and if they're down with players just throwing the carefully laid plans for the campaign out the window and forcing the DM to improvise everything.

Personally, for this first run that's also my first run, I'm not going that far off the rails of what I've already planned out. There's still plenty of chance for flexibility, but I'm not pulling copious amounts of new maps out of my ass just so the party can go snorkeling to find a fishman.

But I'm sure @VashTheStampede would love for you to decide the lost mines are boring, and instead go try to seduce Drizzt Do'Urden or something.

@Ben Is this a wrinkle that's still happening in the code when rolling with the thing? Maybe it was mentioned before already and I missed it.

It looks like you're supposed to see what the rolled number is, but what I get is the D&D. I don't really mind working around it considering the work you've already put in AND are running a game. Just that in the future it'll be nicer to already react to our rolls as we see them from roleplaying aspect before you/Vash/DM resolves them.

The "D&D" is just due to the addon being eh and not parsing the ampersand out correctly where the dice wireset is called "D&D". That's not really affecting anything.

I guess more what you're saying is that it doesn't show you the actual roll directly? Is that period or is that after you edit the post, which I'd seen some say made it disappear?

OP
D&D Character

Waaaaaaaaaait... I now assume you mean before you post it, you're wanting to see the result of the roll so you can react to it in your post?

That would align with what you actually posted now showing the window as expandable.

1705208760287.png

So if that's the case, no. The addon doesn't actually generate the dice roll until you've submitted the post, so there's nothing for it to display at this point. You're just flagging that you WANT to roll a dice along with the post.

Besides, it'd be worthless anyway. You roll the dice, but you have absolutely no idea whether that dice beats the Difficulty Check (DC) that Vash/I set for whatever thing. You could roll higher than 20 with modifiers and still manage to fail something very difficult. And in a real D&D setting, you don't get to continue before the DM tells you the result of your roll anyway.

So... No. :shrug
