Everyone stop what you're doing! It's happening! GW's own Alu is having a baby!! Come and congratulate him here: Need some help identifying this picture.
We're so happy for you, Alu!I assure you, it's a me thing. I've been told more than onceHey man, I said it was irrational anger. It's a me thing, not a you thing.
The only thing I'll say about this, is the stigma that there is no evidence the doping didn't start before 1999. Which calls into question everything before. Just because he lost his neck that year doesn't mean he didn't start several years priorBarry started juicing in 1999. Let's imagine he stopped playing after the 1998 season, his 13th.
He was the first player in history to have 400 HRs and 400 steals. I haven't watched a ton of baseball the last few years, has anyone else done that yet? I wanna say Trout used to be on pace but I know he's had injuries.
In those 13 seasons, he led his league in runs once, home runs once, RBI once, walks five times, on-base percentage four times, slugging three times, OPS five times, OPS+ four times, total bases once and position-player WAR seven times.
Led the league in intentional walks seven times, proving he was the most feared hitter in the game.
Won 3 MVPs, was 2nd twice.
8 Gold Gloves, 7 Silver Sluggers
Honestly the 400/400 with 8 Gold Gloves in 13 seasons should really be the whole post.
The stigma is just baseless smears. The 1999 thing came from the reporters who broke the whole BALCO story wide open and wrote Game of Shadows. The only thing I'll say about this, is the stigma that there is no evidence the doping didn't start before 1999. I hear your point, and I don't disregard it. I still have quite a few players I'd take in an all-time team ahead of him. For me personally, it's not even close. The stigma is just baseless smears. People close to Barry have corroborated it, saying he started doing them because of the attention McGuire and Sosa got.
He hit .303/.438/.609 that year with 38 homers, 28 steals, and a Gold Glove and no one in the media gave a shit.
Had a 40/40 a couple years prior and the media didn't give a shit.
Anyone who says he started before 1999 is either a hater or just not aware of the facts.
As long as you don't take anyone else for LFI hear your point, and I don't disregard it. I still have quite a few players I'd take in an all-time team ahead of him. For me personally, it's not even close.
Ted Williams. All day every day.As long as you don't take anyone else for LF![]()
Ichiro is my favorite player than never played for the Giants. Love that dude. And I'll take Griffey in center and Ichiro in right.
Lol, Williams was better than Ricky, imo, but Ricky is 100% a name I forgot on my original list and would take him over Bonds too.Boo. I'd accept Ricky Henderson though
Griffey had great PR and a decent Nintendo gameEveryone just talk about Ichiro and Griffey and all will be well.
Top tier game at getting me to care about baseball more as a kid though.Griffey had great PR and a decent Nintendo game

It better be a list. If I keep reading through this thread and you don’t make a list, I’ll be angryGoddamnit
I'm gonna make a real post because I'm getting irrationally angry lol
Dammit @VashTheStampedeIt better be a list. If I keep reading through this thread and you don’t make a list, I’ll be angry
He can be my fourth OF. And Ricky my 5th and pinch runner.Triple post:
Seriously, why is everyone leaving Willie Mays out of their all time outfield?
![]()
I can get behind most all that.Maybe I’m an old fuddyduddy, but I like BA more than power. I’d rather see a string of hits score me a run than a single home run.
If I had to make an all time outfield:
Willie Mays
Roberto Clemente
Ichiro Suzuki
4th OF is too hard. So many good ones to choose from- Cobb, Griffey Jr, Ruth, Aaron, Henderson
There was a list of reasons Barry is the GOAT.

But you forgot your main reason: You're a SF homerThere was a list of reasons Barry is the GOAT.
Of the two of us, one of us posted facts and statistics. The other posted feels. But you forgot your main reason: You're a SF homer![]()
I also prefaced my entire statement with "this is my opinion" but you know... if you want the wall of text that would be me justifying every name on my list, I can do that when I have timeOf the two of us, one of us posted facts and statistics. The other posted feels.![]()
I mean, that sounds like a good time to meI also prefaced my entire statement with "this is my opinion" but you know... if you want the wall of text that would be me justifying every name on my list, I can do that when I have time![]()
If only we had a list subforumHonestly a separate thread where everyone posts their all-time lineup could be fun
If only we had a list subforum
Now are all OF equal or do we have to specify CF/LF/RF?
That almost makes it easierOh duh
Specifying feels right to me.
Pedro was the most surprising to me. Ortiz and Bonds were the least surprising. Ortiz started his career scrawny like Bonds, but he wasn’t a good player the way Bonds was, so no one remembers his massive size changeGonna keep using this thread instead of gumming up the 2025 thread since this is old business but Jon Heyman posted and immediately deleted this the other day:

Supposedly everyone who tested positive for steroids in 2002. Few names I didn't realize were linked to steroids. Depressing stuff.
m favorite part of this list is that Jim Thome ISN'T on it.Gonna keep using this thread instead of gumming up the 2025 thread since this is old business but Jon Heyman posted and immediately deleted this the other day:

David Ortiz being in the Hall of Fame is one of the most bullshit things about baseballPedro was the most surprising to me. Ortiz and Bonds were the least surprising. For the group of Yankees players, I’m not surprised, but I feel bad about Pettitte and any players on that list who may have only used it while healing and not to get an edge afterwards
Same. I’d rather see Bonds in before him. At least Bonds was on track or was a borderline hall of famer prior to the roidsDavid Ortiz being in the Hall of Fame is one of the most bullshit things about baseball
It’s a link to Clemens’ wife. He used her as an alibi tooWhy is Arod a link?
Clemens too, as much as I dislike the guy.Same. I’d rather see Bonds in before him. At least Bonds was on track or was a borderline hall of famer prior to the roids
