Giolito was a blue chip prospect I remember. health was always his issue. It derailed him. Buehler was sneaker good his first few years then became a back of the rotation guy. I remember there was hype with Houck, but the Sox reached. Seems to be accurate from what I've heard. Crochet I know nothing of because he was after the time I really followed baseball. I'm not. Overpaying on an AAV like that becomes the norm and baseball has the luxury tax, not a hard cap. So they are saying to future free agents, if we really want you we'll pay you 10 million more than anyone else. That's not a good business model. ESPECIALLY when you're giving him a LeBron "can opt out after every year" bullshit. Every offseason they are going to wonder if he walks. And if he has a good year? Kiss him goodbye. He already had 6 year offers. Someone will give him 5 for 40m and he walks because they won't match. It's just dangerous. If there was no opt out, or an opt out only after year 2, I'd be more likely to say "ok..."

You can still leave Fenway (and I would image the people of Boston will file to have it marked as a landmark), but still build a new stadium. Then have old timey celb and charity games at Fenway while raking in money in a new stadium.

I'm not sure where the "argument" is here. If people really want to argue 162 games plus playoffs over 8 months and almost two months of spring training isn't an absurdly long season that no other sport even remotely has, then there is nothing to discuss. It's a matter of opinion. Die hard fans want the long season. I'm no longer a die hard fan. I used to know every player in the MLB, AAA, AA and even some A ball. I used to keep my own score card while watching all 162 games. I can't do that anymore. The game is like watching paint dry to me. If it's not to you or others, power to you. I won't take it away from you. Just don't tell me I'm wrong because I feel differently.

You do not need to be rude about it. I am sorry you didn't view what I said as an opinion (clearly others did not as well, so that's on me). I merely stated I didn't understand the phrase. Because I have a logical mind and my mind translates the season as long. I'm sure there are plenty of players and other fans that agree. After all, you're asking these guys to spend the majority of their season travelling and very long periods of time away from their families, many with young kids. Whereas most other sports do it for 5-6 months and around a month for preseason, baseball players are asked to sacrifice twice that. You may not care about what other sports do, but it doesn't make it an irrelevant point. The discussion regarding shortening the length of the season has been talked about for ages (it feels like; at least since I was a kid).
This is a clearer way of conveying what I said above. I wasn't trying to diminish his excitement.

I'm talking, from my own perspective, about pure hitters. I'm very old school in I'll take a guy capable of playing small ball and add something defensively over a pure power hitter any day. That's why Stanton, Ortiz and Manny aren't on my lists. It's also why Jeter is. A-Rod probably should be, but he's not on the list for a lot of the same reasons as Bonds. But I think pre-steroid, A-Rod was still a smarter, better hitter than Bonds.
I think we're letting the steroids plague what kind of hitter he was first, I agree with some of those. I'm the biggest Jeter Stan but he's not pre roid bonds
I respect Mantle and Gehrig choices
Dimaggio is tougher for me he did play in a park that wasn't friendly to righties, but I'd probably take pre roid bonds

What about Mays?
He's better than everyone in the second list other than Pujols and maybe Gwynn and Ichiro. It's hard to compare them with bonds as they excelled at different things
