Tried it on Game Pass and thought it was complete shit, but I'll say that I've never been the biggest fan of Kojima's style.

I think that being divisive is his angle... Kinda like the Souls games. It's almost like he wants to alienate people that don't like his style, and lean into it more for people that do. It took me years to appreciate MGS, I had the original for PSX and didn't actually complete it until the PS2 era.

I've always appreciated his ideas but rarely the execution

It's like he wants to distance himself from other games while still maintaining a familiarity that attracts people. It's a weird way of making games, but, he has definitely carved out his own style over the years.

One thing that I think Kelly will appreciate is all of the nods to other games strewn about the world. I thought it was cool as hell when I crested a hill and saw a Tallneck from Horizon projected on the grasslands.

My only Kojima experiences have been Snatcher, Twin Snakes, and MGS5.

Loved Snatcher and MGS5, but Twin Snakes suuuuuUUUUUUUCKED.

You'll definitely like the game if you enjoyed those, because they're not as rehashed as some of his other titles. It just might take you some dedication to get beyond the beginning and how much of a slow burn it is.

Yesterday I started Ghost of Tsushima. I'm about 2 hours in and am enjoying it so far. The first hour was a little bit slow, but once you get into the open world and have more freedom, the game seems to pick up. I'm still trying to get the hang of the combat - I'm only on the medium difficulty but I've died a few times. The skill trees look massive, so I'm sure I'll get tons of new abilities, but it's a bit tricky to pick up at first.

I really like the wayfinding in the game. Although I suspect it will take marginally longer to get around the map, it's much more creative than having a minimap with an arrow pointing the way.

One of my favorite games of all time! Spent quite some time just riding around enjoying the sceneries!

I STILL haven't started this game, and I've had it and all of its DLC installed on my PS4 for probably over a year now. I've heard nothing but great things about it, so, I have no clue what my deal is and why I haven't played it.

I saw Jill of the Jungle free on GoG a few nights ago and downloaded the whole trilogy. This was a random game my dad had on his computer when I was a kid. Probably not even in my tweens yet. Last night I started it and beat the first game in one sitting in like an hour or something. Good nostalgia kick that was.

Then afterwards I dove down into a weird rabbit hole after googling an address where the game's devs wanted checks mailed if you wanted to buy the game or any of the other ones. Then from there after fuffing around a bit more I noticed a familiar looking name. Tim Sweeney. THE Tim Sweeney. Main man of Epic Games and Unreal Engine. The guy made this game in his early adulthood and here I was somewhat nostalgic about it. Man. Weird as hell.

Update on BotW:

I actually don't mind the weapon durability system. Maybe its my Fallout game experience, but weapons breaking don't seem to be that much a hindrance. Keeps me from relying on a single weapon and keeps the game from getting stale. I've purposely decided to not pluck the Master Sword from the ground because I know I'll just use it in most situations.

I do think the inventory space is too limited and that it takes too many Korok seeds to add slots.

I've pretty much not done anything special to my cooking due to not being able to mix, match, and stack special effects via food. You can stack via clothing, but not food. So, bananas, durians, and radishes are my priorities. More hearts and higher damage have been the only special effects I've used. Only cooking meat for the rupees.

Been trying to do most of this game without a guide, but have had to resort to asking the internet on occasion, sometimes realizing that I was on the right path. Had to use the internet to find Fang and Bone for the first time because NONE of the game hints told me where his starting spot is.

I've mostly avoided mini-boss battles save for Hinoxes because of the amount of resources they'll use to take them down, especially Lynels. Stone Talus' are inconsistent due to where the the spot you're supposed to hit is. The one on the Great Plateau was easy. The one just east of the plateau was not because of the asinine location that made it nearly impossible to hit with a melee weapon. Hinoxes are cake as long as you have arrows to spare. Even if you miss the eye, you're still doing damage and it is SUPER easy to stay out of his attack range. Lynels are a pain in the ass because of their elemental arrows (I tried the one with the ice bow and gave up immediately) and the fact that you can only fury rush one attack from them.

I'm expecting to get bored before I get to Ganon. I did buy TotK for the Switch this weekend, so hopefully I don't get bored. Do kinda want to replay Windwaker at some point.

More than one. You can dodge its charge attack too, but it's tricky. You can also mount them if you hit them in the head with an arrow, and attacking them this way doesn't damage your weapon durability.
was the charge attack the one where he runs at me like a bull? if so, that was the only one I could figure out how to dodge and fury rush.

So for the first time since I've had kids, I'm going to take some sort of gaming handheld console with me on holiday at the end of this week. We're away for four weeks, so should get some time in even if I'm only playing when the kids are in bed (which is the idea). I haven't played a handheld consistently for a long time. The Steam Deck is probably a little too big. I've considered the 3DS, Vita and Switch. Very tempted by the Nintendo consoles because I've kind of missed that generation of games, but I dug out a Slim Vita, reset and reformatted it and put my account on it yesterday, and I've enjoyed playing around with it. I think I'm going to take that with me. I've been really enjoying Virtua Tennis 4. I put a lot of hours into Virtua Tennis 3 on the Xbox 360 when that came out originally, so VT4 very much feels like home to me. I'm going to decide on a few other games to take and I've downloaded the original Resident Evil games on PS1 onto it from my purchased list. But for now, it's VT4.

I would definitely recommend starting it! I've played some more and it just keeps getting better the more I play. Like many games, the more you upgrade the protagonist/unlock more abilities, the more fun it is.

Also,
bamboo strikes
are one of the coolest mini games!

Finished Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 according to steam it took me about 90hrs

Fantastic game, better overall game than the first, but the first did feel more immersive and was a little more challenging, but KCD2 still doesnt hold your hand too much. Still some open quest design. One quest I had to sneak through tunnels but my partner was claustrophobic. I knock them out and carry them through. There is even a cut scene for it at the end of the mission. Never told you could do this. Some quests once they are finished you can go back to the person and let them know even if it wasnt a mission objective. I had to find a killer and one character wanted me to let them know if I caught them. I finish the quest and then I go find that character and let her know. Not a quest marker or anything, but really adds to the world building

Just started Baldurs Gate 1 (EE) After loving BG3 and Divinity Original Sin 2 figured I should try some more CRPGS (I also love the fallout ones). Not too far in, just got to the mines. Enjoying it. Its a little clunky, but not too clunky. Ive used some QOL mods including one that lets me send all NPCs to the Friendly Arm Inn. I've also come across a fuck ton of companions. One of the mods was to make companions locations more convenient. So not sure how much that is affecting it. I also turned off companions fighting, maybe I should have kept it, but sounds like it would annoy me more so. Right now It's Me, Imoen (who I love), Jaheira & Khalid (for story purposes though Im sure I could kick them out, Minsc (who I am also loving and heard already heard of), and Dorn who seems bad ass

I have also met Tiax, Montaron & xzar (I am interested in them, but they're a pair and dont have room right now), Eldoth (I want his quest to kidnap that person, but cant do it yet so I left him), Rasaad, Edwin (Was curious to see how him and Minsc get along which they don't at all, but I booted him for Dorn, Im sure I'll come back for him), and Quayle (who I left in Carnival, didnt send to Friendly Arm so dont know actually his class)

Me and my bro are still chugging along on BG3! We've entered act 2, and are trying to decide where to go after
Last Light Inn met it's end. We got the pixie protection from the curse, so either backtrack and head for the gothyanki creche or go on to Moonrise.

I'll be lucky if I find the ~400 needed to upgrade all weapon and shield spots before I beat Calamity Ganon. I'm 3/4 of the Divine Beasts down, have the Master Sword, full stamina, and 16/30 hearts (which can always been 30/30 with health boosts). I think once I'm done with all of the quests (not counting shrine quests), I'll probably start infiltrating Hyrule Castle. Eventide needs to be conquered first. I attempted it a while ago when low on hearts and stamina and almost did it until I got struck by lightning and found that the last save puts you waaaaay back.

Having a ton of fun just adventuring in Baldurs Gate 1

Some fights I've put to easy and then back to normal if I die too many times. Im still not great at these games, but having fun and even on easy they arent all walks in the park

Really wish I could have more than 6 companions though! There are two that I want, but not sure I can part with anyone, maybe Xan, though with throwing knives he's done well for me, he's squishy early on, but I love his dialogue

I finished the main story for Ghost of Tsushima today! Some thoughts below:

I think they nailed the gameplay. There are so many different ways to attack but they give you each method one at a time so it doesn't feel overwhelming. I've seen complaints about a lack of enemy variety, but I think the variety is in how you choose to fight them, rather than the fact that there are only about 5 different types of enemies.

The traversal was significantly better than something like Assassin's Creed. In AC, you can climb basically everything, but this has more linear paths. It makes it really cool when you're swinging somewhere and there is only one foothold to grab onto. It also feels more realistic this way. They also even turned this into a mini game.

Some scenes in the main quest are really epic. Whenever you and your crew are storming a castle is pretty much the coolest thing ever. It reminds me of the heists in GTA, but obviously in a much different setting. I also liked the quest near the end where you have to sneak into Jin's uncle's room to leave a note.

At first I didn't love the story, but I think it got better as it went on. The distinction between being a samurai and being a ghost felt like it added very natural tension, rather than being a simple story of good guy vs. bad guy. I have read some people think that you are supposed to play one way or the other, or maybe some of the pre-release marketing for the game suggested that you would need to make a choice, but I'd rather just have all of the abilities and choose whichever ones I want at each moment.

The only downside to this game is that it seems like the world is massive and there's tons of filler-ish content. I don't think it's any different than when I played AC Origins or Odyssey though (or any other number of open-world games). It took me about 18 hours to complete the main game with limited side content (since I was enjoying the story so much), and I would guess it's going to be another 25-30 hours to complete all of the non-DLC content.

I just started my first playthrough of Cyberpunk 2077. My corpo lady is having a hard time right now. The stress is really getting to her. She's even seeing things.

I considered setting the difficulty to very hard, but I'm glad I didn't. Hard appears to be a good sweet spot for me atm. I've already died quite a few times too. But overall seems like fun.

Very same feelings as me. I loved how the story played out as infuriating as it was because of Japanese culture and ways of the Samurai. I also agree that the world is far too big. I think they nailed the exploration and getting rid of the fog of war, as clearing outposts and markers opens up the map more than you just running through it. I had to adjust to that thinking and it kept me on task more than most open world games.

And I posted when I played it, I loved how you can be as technical or as simple as you wanted with combat. The different stances helped, too. Even if I took long breaks in playing, I was still able to pick it back up and pace myself back into the combat.
