So, I found out that Game Gears have capacitor issues as they age and many might not work. Tested mine, it turns on and than off again. Clear sign of dead capacitors. Supposedly its pretty easy to swap out the caps using soldering, but there's like twenty that might need replacing. Ain't no body got time for that. Bought replacement power and sound boards with brand new capacitors already installed. Not much more expensive than just the capacitor kits.

Disappointing that there's no way to play Game Gear games without a Game Gear or one of those Retron clone consoles with the 50 game slots in it. Apparently, the Game Gear displays more colors than the Genesis is capable of outputting, so an adapter won't work like the Master System -> Genesis adapters do.

I have a Game Gear somewhere that my brother used to own. Caps are definitely toast.

The sound board and power boards you replaced -- are they authentic or second hand? How easy were they to install?
I haven't replaced them yet. Only just ordered them over the evening. Should arrive in a couple weeks. They're from CHYYYNA, and they were the cheapest ones on eBay even after the 7 dollar shipping fee. I'm not really caring much about the quality, TBH. Game Gears (and their games) are not expensive or hard to find because NO ONE is collecting them. Gonna find a USB power cable thar works with it if the replacement boards work.

Lmao I think you might wanna recheck that. Mega Man is about $1800. It's one of the most expensive, but there are others in that range
there are a handful of games that are expensive, just like every system (Wii U and Atari 2600 included), but the VAST majority of GG games are dirt cheap.

Ok, big haul today, dont know how much spent, but it was a lot.

2600

- Star Raiders

NES
- River City Ransom
- Stinger
- Goonies 2
- Tecmo Super Bowl
- Kid Niki
- Devious
- Crystalis
- Solstice
- Defender 2
- Sky Shark
- Wired Hyperkin Cadet controller (my dumbass only saw the 10 dollar price tag and not the fact that it was not the BT wireless one)

SMS

- Fantasy Zone 2
- Blade Eagle 3-D
- Sonic the Hedgehog (CIB, PAL)

GB

- Solar Striker
(Saw V-Rally being sold for 40 and was having none of that)

Genesis

Captain America and the Avengers (CIB)

SNES

- Power Rangers the Fighting Edition

Jaguar

- Cannon Fodder (cart only, someone beat me to the CIB copy)

Dreamcast

- Zombie Revenge (no manual)
- Crazy Taxi (CIB, I only had the disc before)
- Flag 2 Flag
- MDK2

PS2

- Taito Legends 2

Xbox 360

- Test Drive Unlimited 2
- Tiger Woods PGA 12 (first one with Augusta in it)
- Deus Ex Human Revolution Directors Cut (wanted the Wii U version, but I've accepted that its going to be hard to find, and the 360 one is cheaper)

Wii

- Gunblade NY @ LA Machine guns (this was the most expensive item I bought, been looking for this for a while)

Wii U

- Lego City Undercover
- Warriors Orochi 3 Hyper

Switch

- Astral Chain
- Pac-Man Museum
- Cruising Blast
- Dragonball FighterZ

I saw a lot of good games being sold well above market price today. Especially Famicom games. Saw a copy of Star Solider being sold for 9 AND 19. It's only 3 bucks on the market price. I get shipping imports is expensive right now, but most sellers get imports in bulk (and via friends who snatched them up while on their travels) and likely got them WELL before Trump was elected. 3 dollar games shouldn't be going for 3-6 times the market value.

Edit: Also, I had to drive 2 and a half hours and get a hotel, and I don't have the advantage of buying games from people trading games in for cheap.

Side note: I think I'm running out of cheap games that I want. Going to start slowly migrating towards buying more expensive titles but at a lower pace.

And I anticipate trading in a bunch of games (or giving them away to Goodwill).

Sonic the Hedgehog (CIB, PAL)
Theres no way to tell. The only indicator that it's NA would be a small paper barcode sticker on the case, and that could've been removed at some point. PAL and NA copies are otherwise completely identical.
Deus Ex Human Revolution Directors Cut (wanted the Wii U version,
Why the Wii U version?

PAL boxes have more colorful binding designs on the boxes, I found. NA copies all use the same font and color. Also, it dodnt cost me an arm and two legs. It was 35 complete (box isn't in tbe hest shape.
Why the Wii U version?
When I looked up what multiplatform games were considered the best on the Wii U, Deus Ex comes up a lot, up there with NFS Most Wanted and Rayman Legends. I believe a large factor is the Gamepad integration.

Note: Most threads were posted before the Switch/PS4/XBONE came out. However, generally, if the game pad is ACTUALLY used well, the Wii U version can be the best of its generation. Madden 13, is another example.

Also, the Wii U version is on one disc. 360 is on two.

Sonic, specifically, is completely identical.

Rayman Legends' definitive version is on the Switch. But I didn't know that about Deus Ex, and I didn't realize that game was supposed to be so good. I guess I'll have a reason to bust out my Wii U again.

Also, this isn't counting PC versions. Consoles only. Human Revolution doesnt have a more modern port than the Wii U version (it was the last version released) and NFS Most Wanted U is basically the PC version with some Gamepad integration.

So, I FINALLY got the boards. Installing them was easy. The power board works from what I can tell as the screen turns on. Games aren't working, so I don't know if there are other issues.

I don't know how much I want to fiddle with the thing. I only have 3 games for it. Sonic 2, NBA Jam TE, and Tails' Adventure. Only Tails Adventure is worth anything but its in Sonic Origins Plus along with Sonic 2.

Good news: I got a Switch OLED. Its a Legend of Zelda themed Switch.

Bad news: It's a Switch OLED, so that means all the accessories I bought for my Switch, including the screen protectors are useless unless I keep my original Switch, and it means I also have to buy all new accessories for it.

This is the first special edition console I've purchased. My original Switch has the boring grey joycons... though mine doesn't have stick drift due to minimal usage. Hopefully, this one was minimally used, too. Its pretty clean.

Wait

Why you playing BotW on the Wii U when you had and have a Switch?
because I have had botw on the Wii U since before I got a Switch, and have never felt the need to drop 50+ on a game I already owned and hadn't even played.

So far, there are only two things I missing from the Switch version:

1. More consistent framerate
2. Japanese language DLC that I can no longer download on the Wii U.

Same goes for Mario Kart 8, though MK8 Deluxe has A LOT more content than the Wii U version.

I'm kind of a sucker for ports of popular games on weaker hardware (Wii excluded because of motion controls).

I bought a CIB Mega Man 4 off of eBay today. That completes my physical mainline Mega Man collection -- provided my drop shipping provider doesn't accidentally ship the package to someone else again! (They reimbursed me for the total value though, so all's sorta good)

Now I just need Mega Man X2 and Mega Man III for the GB. I also want Mega Man for the Game Gear, but shit's hella pricy.

I'll probably never buy a copy of an individual Mega Man game due to all of the collections that are available out there at affordable prices. I don't have much personal connection to the Mega Man games that I don't care to personally own one.

Its possible I played one on the Gameboy ages ago as a kid, but I never owned a copy.

Not to mention that every time I play a Mega Man game, I hate myself.

I do get that people love those games and understand the want to have a complete collection.

Makes me feel like I should try to get a CIB copy of the original Legend of Zelda and find an official box for Super Mario World. Those games were big deals for me.

Weirdly I played a lot of Mega Man II on the Gameboy, but basically haven't played any other game in the series outside of that. I do have complete versions of the first three on NES, at least Mega Man X on the SNES and all of the PS1 games, along with a few more recent ones. For no other reason than the series is collectible.

I got into the X series first and played all of those games on emulators. Then, I played the Classics all on the GameCube collection for the first time. I enjoyed Mega Man 8, but I first really fell in love with the series with Mega Man 9. I still believe to this day that it's a perfect game.

Even the more recent Mega Man 11 is an excellent game.
find an official box for Super Mario World.
That's a tough one. The box goes for upwards of $600 in good condition. Player's Choice you might be able to get for around $350. It's one of those weird ones since most people owned it as a pack-in, so there weren't many first editions pressed.

The Gameboy games can be pretty good, too, but all of them except for MMV reuse bosses and the same sort of levels from the NES games. Still, MMIV is tough as tits -- harder than the NES game, I reckon.

oh yeah, that makes a lot of sense.

Well, I got a manual and an arftermarket case, that might be good enough.

That is like MY game for me. That and Half Life 2.

I have Megaman 8 on the PS1. I don't have Megaman 9 but it's part of the second Legacy Collection on PS4. Might have to pick a copy of that up.
MM8 was one of the most hated in the classic series, but I've never understood why. There's a couple of levels with QuickTime events, but they give you tons of warning, and there are some shootem up style sections that some fans didn't like, I guess, but I enjoyed it.

MM9 is just classic Mega Man. There isn't even a slide button or the charge shot. But it's peak platformer gameplay.

I forgot to mention too that the Mega Man GB games have never been released in a collection, and there are two other GBC Mega Man X games that are also pretty good but were never released in collections. I think they're all available on the Switch Virtual Console though.
which one is the best one?

Depends.

MMI has no slowdown, which all other games suffer from. I also find the difficulty is just right -- not too easy, not too tough. It's shorter than the other games, too.

MMII is largely touted as better, but I suspect it's because it's the easiest one. Life pick-ups are generous.

MMIII FUCK this game. Dust man's stage is incredibly unforgiving. Hardest one for sure.

MMIV don't remember this one tbh. I remember liking it more than MMII and MMIII, but I don't think it was anything special.

MMV has all new robot masters and stages compared to the others, which reuse NES robot masters and draw inspiration from the NES stages. It's the most unique of them all.
