Reminds me of doing solo Legendary runs on Halo with the spotty as hell check-pointing.But several of those deaths were in Abby's section on Day 2, where I fell off the bridge 3 times in a row (losing about 15 minutes each time). There were a couple of zombie sections where if they even get one hit on you, you die. I don't think I died in a particularly legitimate way any of the 13 times, so it was definitely frustrating.
Shit like that sucks super hard, yeah. Noticed EA has been on an absolute tear this year, there's been a seemingly non-stop list of server closures out of them.Madden NFL 20 is done. The recent announcement of the server closure in early 2024 accelerated the need to complete this game. There's only one Madden I owned on PlayStation that I don't have the plat for, but unfortunately, the servers are closed and I'm only missing one online trophy. The frustrating thing is that I know I was 1 win away at various points from getting that trophy. Oh well.

I think I have 3 games in this category, but the most frustrating has to be Driveclub. It was a Playstation exclusive that was insanely hyped because they said they were giving it away for free (in practice, that didn't turn out to be the full truth). I'm not sure when they turned off the servers, but the game totally sucked, and I don't think you can even buy the full version nowadays. It seems so odd for them to abandon an exclusive that they had put so much into. I actually just looked it up and I guess the studio that made it shut down, so that's why, but the game was doomed to fail. If and when I get all of the platinums from games that I've already started, I'm going to go back to this and try and get as many trophies as I can. I have some of the online ones already, so I won't have to miss them all, but I definitely can't get the plat. For PlayStation, definitely going to go out of my way to avoid any games with online achievements/modes for anything I ultimately decide to pursue. Really should get around to finishing out Drakengard 3, as a matter of fact...
PS3 Dante's Inferno is somehow still going. I was able to get the trophies for the online co-op DLC recently even though it was announced the servers were shut down.Shit like that sucks super hard, yeah. Somehow I've only managed to get got by three games across either platform over the years; Rock Band Blitz's servers just... disappeared one day, and Harmonix made some real dumb design choices that basically made it an online-only game without anyone (at the time of release, when I briefly played) really noticing. Smash TV released with an unobtainable that was never fixed. And then there's Kane & Lynch: Dead Men with the stupid Rank 1 & Rank 2 global leaderboard achievements, that may as well not exist.
For PlayStation, definitely going to go out of my way to avoid any games with online achievements/modes for anything I ultimately decide to pursue. Really should get around to finishing out Drakengard 3, as a matter of fact...
Oh yeah, I saw the headline/notification for that one! Reminds me of, like, how quickly the Tiger Woods PGA Tour games would spin up and then get taken out back. In this day and age it's super weird too, because from my complete outsider perspective of how it works (so, potentially not the reality), Call of Duty actually found the correct solution via Warzone? Like you can have your yearly releases, but all of the online is a sort of "hub" that's kind of separate but gets content loaded into it every year. So you ostensibly get the best of both worlds. The worst I've seen is WWE 2K games. Apparently 2K22 is going offline next year. It's the second most recent game that is available! That's way worse than the typical sports games. To be fair, it's probably because roster updates are less impactful than in a team-sports game, but that's still crazy.
Yeah, this happens far too often as well. It's startling how many of Sony and Microsoft's first-party games were shut down (and their studios with them); you'd think, as the platform holder, even if they aren't super popular you'd want those to always be there. The costs can't be even a fraction of a fraction of a percentage of monthly income, surely! Like on the Xbox side, Crackdown 3 took maybe 20% as long to shut down than it did to release in the first place!Spiner202 said:It seems so odd for them to abandon an exclusive that they had put so much into. This is a thing with basically all of Ubisoft's efforts, too. Even when they aren't announced to be shut down, there are just weeks or months on end where they are no longer functional. And then they come back randomly! Lots of games that are/were announced to be shut down, still work months or years later... it really makes it seem like they have to go completely out of their way to shut most of these games down, and surely that manpower costs more than the pennies it takes to just leave them alone.PS3 Dante's Inferno is somehow still going. Similar thing with Arkham Origins. Servers were announced closed a good few years ago, but if you idle on the "Connecting to server..." page for half an hour or so, it will put you in a lobby and allow you to invite people.
Part of me wonders if the tech monkeys they put in charge of pulling the plugs on these servers are like, "NO way, game preservation is sacred" and just refuse to shut them down. I feel like that sort of thing would be easy to hide. This is a thing with basically all of Ubisoft's efforts, too. I never understood why people thought Orphan was so difficult. Maybe it's just my playstyle, but I had a lot more trouble with other bosses -- especially some of the Chalice dungeon bosses. I almost beat Orphan on my first try, were it not for his lighting summon, which I didn't understand when he did it. I got him on my third try. He felt a lot more fair than other bosses in the game that you just need to cheese to get by.Bloodborne can be upgraded from Platinum to Platinum & 100% for me!
The DLC was really fun. Tons of new enemies and the bosses were - for the most part - fun. I have no problem admitting that I abused the NPC characters where possible to help me out with the bosses. That said, Maria was the best fight by far and I had no help for that. Even though she is insanely fast, she actually felt a lot fairer than most Bloodborne bosses. I think the smaller bosses are better sometimes because they can actually miss hitting you (despite their massive range of attacks).
Orphan of Kos is probably the hardest boss across both the main game and the DLC. I had to resort to getting co-op help to beat him. I probably could have kept grinding it out and done better, but his second phase is so difficult that I'm happier to have had help.
I did most, but not all of a regular game playthrough to supplement the DLC, and I'd say at this point that anyone new to Bloodborne should buy the DLC alongside it. I'm sure it's better/easier to do near the end of the game once you are fully levelled. Apparently I was fairly underleveled for when I took it on, but I'm not sure having a little bit more health/vitality/attack would have made a huge difference.
What's it been like so far? Would you recommend it to anyone? How long do you think you've spent on them altogether now?View attachment 4007
Yakuza 6: The Song of Life checked off! this one was a breeze compared to the last few. that’s now 7 yakuza games platted. like a dragon is next!
What's the best starting place for someone who's never played a Yakuza game but it is warily intrigued?i’ve personally had a great time! i started with y0 way back in 2018 and have been going game by game since then. usually i’d play through the game regular and then take a break before going for the plat and that helped me not get too burnt out. i will say going from yk2 to y3 was a big downgrade in terms of game engine and QOL but y5 has shinada in it.
that said, these games and specifically the completion list features are built for people with brains like me. some plats didn’t require the completion list, some did. the ones that did got pretty grindy at times (y0, y3, and y5 in particular). overall i spent prolly 60-110 hours on each game and i’d wager i spent at least half of that time baked
This doesn't bother me, as long as the gameplay is solid.i’ve also known people where yakuza: like a dragon was their entry point but it does have a different protag/playstyle than the games prior
For just the original game, no DLC or anything (err... with an asterisk... it's complicated, sometimes), yeah.Platinum is what you're awarded when you 100% all achievements, right?
co-sign. it really is a shame that third game never got made because the first two are so good. luna is my psn icon evenWhich, on that note, I'm still obligated to tell everyone to play Zero Escape 1 (999) and 2 (VLR). Pity a third game never materialized to finish off the series. ...What's that? Nonono, you're mistaken. YOU. ARE. MISTAKEN!
There's two other games where I'm one away but I'm not sure if I can be bothered with button input minigames (looking at you FFVII Remake and FFX).
How was the game? I haven't picked it up yet but am really looking forward to playing it!I have achieved my 2nd ever platinum!
Spider-Man 2
The fact that I took the time to actually 100% it is the highest compliment I can give it.How was the game? I haven't picked it up yet but am really looking forward to playing it!
Updated through here.
lol. lmao, even.To be fair - most aren't,
Every JRPG is obligated to have fishing. It doesn't matter how good or bad the experience it is, it must contain fishing to be a JRPG.why are jrpgs like this
I ain't got no tips for that one sadly! Watched a video and it looks suitably awful, so... yeah.I tried the pull-up one for 30 mins on Remake and put it down.
Ugh.
I am proud to say that this game is now 100%! It was a bit of a wild ride to get that last trophy.I am hoping that I can tell you to upgrade Star Wars Battlefront to 100% soon. Yesterday, I got the second-to-last trophy for reaching rank 100.
The final trophy I need is in the 4th DLC mode. There's a trophy for winning 10 matches in the new game mode. Unfortunately, the playlist for this DLC is mixed, so it alternates other game modes in with the new one. The real problem is that of the 4 DLC packs, this one has the fewest people playing, which makes no sense because 3/4 of them require a concerted group effort to have enough people to start the playlist.
I've tried getting a group going in the discord a couple of times with no luck. These DLC modes basically only run on weekends because nobody is around to play them. I've gotten into this mode a couple times before and would guess I have somewhere between 4-6 wins, but I think I'll essentially need to boot up Battlefront every time I turn on my PS5 and check if there's an active game before I start playing something else.
This talk of Square's bullshit made me muster up the courage.

Fuck you Square, now I gotta gather the strength for the Remake shit.
#47: Final Fantasy X
Getting to lvl 50 is the worst trophy because it's a lot of mindless grinding the same exact area for hours. The rest of the game is more interactive and more fun, but some of the missions are a pain in the ass to get gold in -- especially if there's some long-ass intro scene with minutes of horse riding before any actual action. There's enough easy missions to get the platinum without much stress, but if you're like me and want to 100% the game, you'll be in for some pain.I have boosted many times before, although I generally don't enjoy it. But this was a special beast because it was a game that was somewhat dead and segmented by DLC ownership. On a more current game (or even one like GTA V that will never die), it would be easier.
The next game in my sights is Red Dead Redemption 2. I've made a few attempts in the past, but I'm going to make a more serious effort now. I only have 1 online trophy left (get to level 50; I'm currently 32), and then the single-player stuff will be its own beast. I have a feeling I won't have an update for this thread for a couple of months!
If it's anything like the Xbox side of things, there are a surprisingly large amount of people that keep an extensive library tucked away just for impromptu boosting sessions and short-notice server closure announcements. The downside to this end of things is that, as far as I can tell, there isn't really a good central hub - nothing remotely like TrueAchievements (and their Boosting Session feature, which is a godsend), or really even OG X360A's more ad-hoc forum approach. So you've got like two large-ish hubs, Reddit, various per-game dedicated Discord servers... I can certainly see it being possible to round up big groups, but a massive pain in the ass. Also, I'm blown away that this method worked, because, as far as I know, Battlefront has crossplay, so using PSN group chats rather than Discord seems like it would be less effective. Major props to the angry dude because he was hustling. Seriously, probably every 20 minutes throughout the day, I got a notification that a new person got added to one of these groups. You'd have no idea there were still so many people trophy hunting on this game.
Shit like this is the bane of my existence, Assassin's Creed in particular immediately springs to mind.especially if there's some long-ass intro scene with minutes of horse riding before any actual action.
It just blows my mind that, with everything people know about game design by now, these simple BASIC mistakes keep being made.Shit like this is the bane of my existence, Assassin's Creed in particular immediately springs to mind.
Armored Core 6 right now as well in a roundabout way, insofar that end-of-mission report with the ranking award doesn't have a "replay mission" option so you have to sit through 2 unnecessary load times per attempt.
If everything was as snappy and to the point as, say, N/+/++ or Super Meat Boy, I would be quite happy.
I don't mind collectable trophies. I think the ones that are like "collect 90% of whatever" are nice and pretty forgiving to most players, even if I tend to 100% anyway. For me a lot of game designers make wild misses on trophies and unlockables. When it's straight up annoying with no in game reward? Bullshit. It also should not be doing the same thing over and over. I also hate online only ones.
Collectable ones and that type of shit while they suck - at least make sense as a trophy.
This is why I always look up trophy guides now. I don't like having to go through a game again, or restart huge sections just because of one dumb missable. Still, I prefer these over "do repetitive thing 200 times" trophies because of how mind-numbing they are. Ni No Kuni was a lot of that -- finished a good few podcasts while grinding random shit outI think my biggest issue with collectable trophies is when games have missable collectibles.

There's also PSNProfiles but I find that almost every single boosting session says that the date/time is just a placeholder. I find that doesn't work because (1) you don't even know what timezone the people that you are signing up to play with are in, and (2) without a definitive time/date, things tend to fizzle and not happen. If people stuck to the date/time, it would work a lot better. If it's anything like the Xbox side of things, there are a surprisingly large amount of people that keep an extensive library tucked away just for impromptu boosting sessions and short-notice server closure announcements. Nah:Yeah I'm doing the Collector role and just going around picking stuff up and trading them in for XP. Seems like the fastest thing to do, but no doubt quite repetitive
