Heh, honestly I only expected Quagmire to recognize the name. Vetinari is the patrician of Anhk-Morpork in the Discworld novels. One of my favorite characters, though they all tend to be my favorite.

He has been played by Charles Dance and Jeremy Irons in various movies/series, if that conveys the type of character at all.

Tywin Lannister and Scar walk into a novel...

It's always been my favorite. The third one has more gimmicky stuff (like a bazooka) and you have to do time trials on every level, which I hate generally. The second is a more pure platformer IMO.

I'll pick again after my meeting
I think that's probably the most popular opinion. I tend towards 3 but that's probably because it was my first one and 8-year old me wasn't as bothered by the gimmicks.

The first game is fun but a bit aggravating and somehow the N-Sane trilogy made that worse.

The PS2 entry (The Wrath of Cortex) I think is slightly underrated even as it's going nowhere near my list. The new game (4: It's About Time) is very good and would be up there with 2 and 3.

I guess "sophisticated yet ruthless Englishman" was something I aspired towards.

Too bad I land somewhere more around "charming yet potato expatriot".

I wondered that when I played it. I remember struggling with those games as a kid, but ultimately being able to 100% 2 and 3. As an adult playing the remake trilogy, it was tough as steel balls to get through some parts of those three games. Especially the ice stages. The physics felt whack.
The new game (4: It's About Time) is very good and would be up there with 2 and 3.
I still haven't started that one yet. I saw that they really went overboard with the collectables, and there's a ton of really difficult conditions to get some of them. I'd probably just play it to beat it and then move on.

It's a mixture of physics and hitbox changes. I believe the physics for all three games were based off Crash 3 and just tweaked a bit for the other two games making them feel a bit awkward. The hitbox issue makes Crash feel more slippery near edges and makes the bridge levels in Crash 1 even harder than the original.

That's the main downside for some people as getting 106% is bastard hard. Personally I'm like you and would just not do that stuff. Even N. Verted mode is largely padding even as the graphics mods on each level are really neat. The core game is fairly challenging anyway but I enjoyed it.

Thank you for saying this! I played the original trilogy soooo many times, I had 100% completed all of them and had 100% the second one probably a dozen times, but I cannot fucking do it on the remake. I was genuinely wondering how I'd gotten so much worse at video games.

It's good and I like it a lot. There's a good chance I'll pick it eventually. Wasn't there another game between 3 and 4 which was just god awful with minute+ loading times for levels?

I'll choose Psychonauts.

That game was The Wrath of Cortex that I mentioned. Your comment on the load times is true for the original print, but the Greatest Hits / Platinum on PS2 and the ports on Xbox and GameCube more than cut them in half and of course on PC emulation they are faster still. There's a story online about how this is due to a planned loading mini-game being poorly removed but I couldn't verify it.

Outside of that, the game itself is not terrible but is not particularly inventive and to a lot of people's disdain doubles down on the non-core stuff. That said, I might be a bit generous because in the whole PS1->PS2 stakes I often compare it to Spyro: Enter the Dragonfly which was a ruinous sack of shit.

Ohh I was mixing it up with Warped somehow. Yeah, fuck that game, it was shit. If you have long enough load times for a loading mini game, then you've already fucked up beyond redemption.

Yes, Spyro was even worse. The water in that game was absolutely gorgeous though.

I looked into the Crash: TWoC loading mini-game thing and last year a pre-submission build of the game from September 11 2001 (what a date) was anonymously leaked and it contains the mini-game. The release build was dated September 21 and obviously doesn't. Not quite definitive evidence but the story seems believable, especially since the reason was probably around Namco's patent of the idea.

What a waste of time. Loading mini-games seem like a bad idea anyway.

I didn't even remember that it came out on PS2.
Me either. I confess I googled for a list of PS2 platformers because apparently I have no idea which games are on which systems. I also learned there are a quite a few highly rated platformers for the PS2 that I've never played. I wonder how hard it is to get ahold of them nowadays.

Also apparently they remade Tomba on the PS5!? I'm gonna have to check that out.

@VashTheStampede obviously you run this but why does that mean you're not in it?

I did participate in a previous one when we didn't have that many players.

alternatively, you could make a team with the remaining games?

I like this idea! It wouldn't win or anything but I really like the idea of just making a list out of the rejects for funsies. I think I'll do this.
