I feel like establishing strict ground rules is more conducive to a happy household than stealing a kid's toys because you don't like that they make noise and make the kid happy that it makes noise...
Some of these are jokes and not things that we actually do. Lol

Spoken like someone who has never tried to threaten a child who doesn’t want to sleep
Actually, what he says is something that sort of works. When I met my wife, her two kids were always getting out of bed. Until I started telling them if they get up again I'll take one of their favorite stuffed animals away for a year. They stopped getting out of bed after they tried calling my bluff. I didn't make them wait the full year though. They're pretty good about going to bed now compared to before, even though I only occasionally spend the night there these days.

It depends on the kid, too. I knew some that would start a mosh pit in their crib or bedroom if no toys were present, and some that would fall asleep playing with a particular toy.

Or how stubborn they are. My then-3-year-old told me if I took away her bear (which I threatened because she was playing instead of sleeping), she would stay up all night screaming until I gave it back. After about 4 hours I relented, because the only other option would have left me with one child
