Resolved Let's Figure Out Why Crystal's Profile Doesn't Work

Just trying to sort things out, because I'm stumped.

I went to the dev board and found that if I disable all add-ons and then enable them one at a time, I don't run into the issue until I activate any of the following add-ons:

-XenAddons Pickem
-s9e/MediaSites
-PWA (DigitalPoint)
-Editor & BB Code Manager
-Advanced BbCode pack

As far as I can tell, they have NOTHING in common...so...yeah...I'm stumped.

Anyone feel like shooting some ideas to try?

Crystal, you have a working profile page again.

I did start out by just deleting TD's post, but that was not actually the cause.

I then just went nuts and deleted everything from your profile, and it now loads.

I will start going back through and undeleting them one-by-one until I find the fucky one.
Going back through and undeleting these, I'm suspecting it's the sheer number of GIFs being loaded at once, since the profile posts don't seem to be paged in any way.

It does not seem to be any specific person/post, but rather when a certain amount are turned back on... I settled for leaving most of the GIF posts/comments off of your profile, but tried to re-enable the "thanks for being you" ones.

Yeah, which is why I'm surprised increasing the execution time and memory limit didn't do anything, but it could also have been that I didn't do a full refresh of the cache or anything like that. I still have the limits bumped up, so when whatever cron-job I assume dumps that runs, maybe it'll get better.

So would there be an easy(-ish) way to force pages for the profile posts? Ostensibly if the number per page wasn't particularly excessive, bumped up limits or not, very select few things across the forums would be at risk of imploding.

Unless TD feels challenged, in which case good luck. 🫡

I'll certainly check if there's an option for that.

One other thing to note, @Crystal, is that a huge portion of errors hitting the logs under the dashboard are due to the PHP rotator script that @Cole has in his signature. I went and checked the Connections! (and other wordle type games) thread, and Page 4 also pitches a white page. I haven't gone and looked at whatever script that's using, but y'all might want to review that.

I wouldn't think it's your signature specifically that's caused the overall problems elsewhere, as it's certainly occurred in places you don't post. Your signature also loads fine on a lot of other pages, so I'd chock Page 4 of that thread up to the thousands of images issue.

But, at least working out what's throwing an error in the code would knock one thing off of the error logs.

This. I don't think it's any one individual user, as opposed to all of us just bludgeoning the server with 1d10+3 damage every 6 seconds.

I turned on more of the error logging features and even when the blank pages fail to load, it's not showing anything new on top of those above for Cole. Which is surprising, I expected it to pitch a ton of them, failed GET requests, timeouts, something.

We've been trying to break 'this' site for 20 years. We're just giving Crystal the true Al treatment.
 
I think Cole's rotator might just be outdated php code, since we're now running 8.2 and the rotator was made during the 5.x days. I'll take a peek at the code and see if I can update it later on.

So, one workable solution... I reduced the number of posts per page from 50 to 40, and now every page of the Connections thread loads. Although this wouldn't solve for single posts with 3000+ smileys, it might prevent hitting the blank pages quite so often.

(This was something @shortkut had mentioned, though we wanted to try to avoid it.)

EDIT: I put it back up to 50 after testing, but it's something to consider. AS WELL AS THE OTHER THING, CRYSTAL. <3

There are some upgrades to services we use (Cloudflare) that provide image compression functionality, and further upgrades that implement automatic WebP conversion which would further reduce the size of images. I however spent all night trying to convince Crystal to let me foot the upgrade bill for it and she out-stubborned me.

So instead I made a donation to a penguin charity on her behalf. :penguin2

Although I concede that there's an upcoming release of XenForo that's supposed to integrate WebP compatibility natively. If we can upgrade to a new version in a few months, and not have to increase service-tiers on products, then I suppose that's fine.

In all seriousness though, it's the instances where you keep putting yourself down that's the biggest culprit, and as someone who cares about you very much, I have to call you out on that. Give yourself more credit, because you really are a wonderful person all-around. I'm not much of a people person, but I will say this, it's your warm & friendly personality that not only makes places like these welcoming, but also put a smile on my face. I enjoy being in your company. :hugs
