So you’re saying @Jon ‘s Zesty could revive Carl the asshole?
Zesty certainly doesn't have that spell. But...

3rd level Revivify needs the body mostly intact and must be cast within 1 minute of death.

5th level Raise Dead needs the body, missing body parts stay missing, and must be cast within 10 days of death.

7th level Resurrection can restore body parts as long as some of it remains, and can be cast up to 100 years later.

9th level True Resurrection can remake a body from scratch up to 200 years later.

But all of them require the soul to be willing and not destroyed. If you'd been eaten and shit out as diarrhea by a barbarian, you might want to stay dead.

Next quest involves convincing Carlson to join the party to journey to the afterlife to convince Carl to come back to life to assuage the group’s guilt

I had 2 fairly fleshed out plans for where the party would go next... Neither specifically involved a trip to the afterlife to fix Aim's sins.

One of them would have taken everyone back through Phandelver though, where kutshort's actual body still is, so he'd have gotten to carry on playing.

I guess I hadn't decided on a specific setting for the other one, I could technically drop it in any location, so I could have done the same there...

But that's still a future Ben problem.
