I don’t understand this change or what it means
Basically if you want to continue to use the old 5e stuff (what we were using) you have to create "homebrew" versions of spells and whatnot, which is a rather annoyingly complicated process.

They do this to try and force you into buying all the new sourcebook stuff they're putting out, as WotC continues to make repeated cynical capitalism moves to drive profits for materials no one asked for.

No Problem Here
IMO this is going to keep coming up though

Should a company continue to maintain a product that gives good PR and goodwill but no profit?

As far as I am aware we did not sign a contract upon purchase that said this stuff would be forever maintained

Not sure what should happen, perhaps at some point it would be released for a group of dedicated open source people to maintain as often happens with old video game roms

They should have had a plan for this though

I mean, we could litigate the concept of digital ownership until the cows come home but it basically comes down to a morality question, and we know where corporations come down on those 99% of the time.

This will 100% happen, assuming it hasn't already.

Honestly there's an opening here for another company to swoop in because what is D&D really other than fancy branding?

Paizo could put out a Pathfinder Beyond and take another shot across WotC's bow.

They should have had a plan for this though

If Wizards has proven anything over the last few years it's that they are going to keep pulling this same shit and hoping this is the time they get away with it.
