You don't even have to dodge him, either just get a fire flower and jump on top of the door all the way to the left and his hitbox misses you while you pelt him with fire balls. Or you can just duck on the brick part and the hitbox misses you, you just have to jump away the last time before he breaks through.
If you have the Hammer Bros suit, you can kill him in a second or two.

SMB3 Bowser has to be the easiest. N64 Bowser still required time and effort.

I guess we're close enough.

Best Character Customization: Soul Calibur V.

I could ALMOST forgive Namco for replacing the entire cast with random copycats, and thus removing Seong Mi-na. Their character creator was so good, I could almost recreate Seong Mi-na on my own.... just without her moveset and weapon.

Best character customization: I know some people will spend hours creating the perfect character, but I get bored by ten minutes in. I don't care much for it. Miis were fun. The design options were fairly expansive, yet limited enough that you could figure out creative workarounds to make some interesting but recognizable characters. Miis were fun times.

I turned my Xbox 360 avatar into James Bond. That's the most effort I put into those pointless avatar things.

If character customization extends past the character creator to in-game clothing and shit, I change my answer to Morrowind. So many clothing and armor options in that game, it's unreal. I liked how pair items (except for boots) were considered individual items, so you could have two wildly different gauntlets or pauldrons or whatever.

I'm surprised so many people don't care about this feature, especially considering how much time and resources devs put into it and how it's such a huge selling point for some games. I thought I was the odd one out on this one.

I mean, most games are FP and you almost never see your character for like 99% of the game, so who cares?

Best Character Customization: I'm going to go with a relatively recently game. It's the one I spent the most time in and it's the one I've seen the coolest creations in. Dragon's Dogma 2.

Best Character Customization

I've spent more time in the character creation screens for Baldur's Gate III than I have in the actual game, and I'm 100% okay with that.

I love "paper doll" aspects in my games and it's another little mechanic that can keep me invested in a game longer, as I search for that perfect sword or cape to bring a whole outfit together. If you vanquish evil and you don't look fabulous, what's the point?

Agreed. If you can't kill the demon lord while walking around with a huge dump truck, then the demon lord isn't getting killed.

Favorite Line:

"What happens is this: Everyone that points a gun at me dies. Every. Last. One."
- Nora, Fallout 4, during the Silver Shroud quest. It's not a Silver Shroud line, it's a regular intimidation line.

Mr Fantastic in FNV has some pretty solid lines, too. "They asked me if I had a degree in theoretical physics. I said I had a theoretical degree in physics."

Then there's the Long Dick Johnson line spoken by Cass in FNV. There are a lot of great lines in the Fallout games.

You mean aside from meme options like "do a barrel roll", "A dike? Oh no!" and "Two number 9s, a number 9 large, a number 6 with extra dip, a number 7, two number 45s, one with cheese and a large soda"???

"What kind of fucking animal do you take me for? No, I didn't kill him... but I did kidnap his wife!" - Trevor from GTA 5

"Alright, I've been thinking. When life gives you lemons, don't make lemonade - make life take the lemons back! Get mad! I don't want your damn lemons, what am I supposed to do with these? Demand to see life's manager. Make life rue the day it thought it could give Cave Johnson lemons. Do you know who I am? I'm the man who's gonna burn your house down! With the lemons. I'm going to to get my engineers to invent a combustible lemon that burns your house down!" - Cave Johnson from Portal 2.

Also one I've been thinking of recently - "War is where the young and stupid are tricked by the old and bitter into killing each other." - Niko from GTA 4.

Cave Johnson's lemon rant is a great mention.

Also, I'm in space.

That works for the cinematic day, as well. A rare Valve cinematic that isn't a TF2 "Meet the ____" vid.

Easiest final boss: I tend to not finish the majority of the games I play, so don't actually beat too many final bossed lol. Maybe I will say FF13, but only because I found the time you fight Barthandelus early on being way way harder than the end game fight. And then Orphan being a cakewalk.

Best Character Customization: City of Heroes

Favorite quote: tough one, but I eventually arrived at the following. It perfectly captures your arrival into the dystopian future of Half-Life 2:

Welcome. Welcome to City 17.

You have chosen, or been chosen, to relocate to one of our finest remaining urban centers. I thought so much of City 17 that I elected to establish my Administration here, in the Citadel so thoughtfully provided by Our Benefactors. I have been proud to call City 17 my home. And so, whether you are here to stay, or passing through on your way to parts unknown, welcome to City 17. It's safer here.

Also, honorable mention to Dagoth Ur's monologue when first meeting you:
Come Nerevar, friend or traitor, come.
It's not much, but it's impactful knowing the whole history of the two of you.

This guy is such a great character.
I can't agree just because when I was first playing the game I couldn't get past the fact that he's almost a 1-for-1 copy of Sean Penn's character from Carlito's Way. It was the worst part of Vice City for me.

I totally get using references and such for an 80s pastiche, but that character specifically was just way too much of a ripoff of the source material for me.

That said, the amazing William Fichnter was, as usual, perfect in the role.

Also Carlito's Way is a great movie and more people should watch it.

I can't think of one quote in particular but many things kratos said. The entire new GoW series is so quotable. If I had to pick one I guess:

"We Are Not Men, We Are More Than That. The Responsibility Is Far Greater, And You Must Be Better Than Me. Understand?"

Anything he says trying to better his son hits right in the feels. It definitely felt really moving playing it as a dad.

First Preorder:

I'm not 100% sure, but I think my irst pre-order was Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2005. I remember this because I recall being happy to pick up a game, but taking note at the store employee slight surprise/confusion that it wasn't the big name game. The big name game being released on the same day was Star Wars Battlefront.

I also pre-ordered Resident Evil 4, I know because I have the demo disc, which they only gave to people who pre-ordered the game. I don't think I pre-ordered anything in 03 or before.

The last game I pre-ordered was Overwatch, which I made an exception to my "no more pre-orders" rule crested following the massive disaster that was the Battlefield 4 launch. Overwatch's open beta had the entire game, so you knew exactly what you were getting into, so it wasn't that hard a choice. That was a digital pre-order, so no waiting in stores.

Don't recall doing many midnight launches. Just Modern Warfare 2 and 3.

I have no idea.

Singapore didn't have a culture of pre-orders. In fact, one nice thing is that it was where a lot of games were manufactured so games were typically released early. I remember picking up CoD4: Modern Warfare a few days early and nobody on old GW believing it until I shared my Xbox achievements. But normally if there was a new game I wanted I'd just check the shop's website/forum (and later Facebook) and pick it up when they said it was available.

Here in the UK we have free next-day shipping from pretty much anywhere. For physical copies I can usually wait for the review embargo to lift, order a copy and have it arrive by release.

First Preorder: I remember it well. Haze (PS3).

I had never pre-ordered a game (and I don't often even still), but the Haze team had this ambitious promotion that if you pre-ordered, you could return it and get a full refund within 7 days if picking it up.

...then if you know the game, you know it tanked, and yes, I returned it, and got my money back.

Best OST: It's Final Fantasy XIV. I knew this the second my eyes fell upon this day on the list. Masayoshi Soken is an absolute fucking gift - not just in the quality of his compositions, but in the sheer variety of styles and genres he's touched on over the game's lifespan. That so many of those tracks are connected to some of my favorite moments in gaming over the years just send it over the edge.

But I'm going to include another answer too, because FFXIV is also kind of bullshit - the game is 14 years old with 5 expansions. Soken has had a lot of time to cook and it's sort of unfair given the more limited context most other games exist in.

So I'm gonna go with Library of Ruina for a more down-to-earth answer. I really fell in love with this game over the past year or so, and the soundtrack from Studio EIM is a big part of that - it's extremely thoughtful in terms of what instruments it incorporates and when, and the game has a number of wonderful singular tracks as well as congruent suites of building tracks as well as dynamic adjustments to a number of tracks depending on how the battle is going. Once you add in the Mili songs for special encounters it just hits another level. Beautiful game, beautiful soundtrack.
