Oh yeah. So this is not from me or my library, just a little anecdote shared by another student in one of my grad school classes. They had an old lady come in asking to look at their Hentai collection. They had to explain to her that the library doesn't collect Hentai. And the real kicker was that she doesn't even know what Hentai even is. She literally just heard the word somewhere and wanted to come in and find something to be offended about and object to, like a person thinking of taking up a new hobby.

So I'm using the AI image tool in our Canva account to try to make an image for one my book displays. This particular one I'm working on is "stories with superheroes", so I'm searching "superheroes coming out of books" for the AI image. Done it multiple times, and it just keeps doing images of Superman no matter what (like, not even somebody who looks like him, it always IS him right down to the iconic S). I was hoping for some more generic super people that don't look like any well-known comic heroes in particular. So after a bunch of times I finally tried searching "superheroes (not superman) coming out of books", and this dumbass stupid fucking robot says no we can't, superman may result in content that doesn't meet our policies.

YOU'VE BEEN GIVING ME NOTHING BUT SUPERMAN THIS ENTIRE TIME AND NOW YOU DO THAT WHEN I SPECIFY THAT I WANT SOMETHING THAT'S NOT HIM.

Haven't any yet. I already did star wars last year so I want to do something different this year. I could do memorial day, though I'll probably have to leave the puns out of it.

I could pick a gender-bender name like Ashley. My voice is kind of high-pitched and nasally and not one you'd expect to hear from a guy who looks like me, so it might make them assume I'm trans and make them feel uncomfortable 😂

Alrighty, the month is almost over and I still haven't decided what my next one is going to be. My thoughts so far (even though it doesn't necessarily have to be related to the month we're in):


Themes for possible puns or dad jokes (hopefully tied into books or reading or libraries somehow):
End of the School Year
Mother's Day
National Get Caught Reading Month (evidently this is a thing but it sounds like something I made up)

More serious themes where jokes probably wouldn't be appropriate:
Mental Health Awareness Month
Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month
Jewish American Heritage Month
National Foster Care Month

Of course, ones I don't use could also become one of my monthly book displays (like apparently May is Bike Month).

I like mental healthcare awareness. There should be a variety of interesting books on it you can highlight, and almost everybody either has some kind of mental health issue or knows somebody who does.

If there's a sizeable AAPI or Jewish population in your area then those would also be good, but if there's not, I don't think it'd appeal to enough people to be worth it.

I'm not sure how many books you have on celiac or how interesting that'd be to read about.
