Not if Arizona is the next Western team. That will depend on if they can get an arena in time, and considering the NHL is pinching in to help with that, that means one more team in the East is needed to balance out the divisions.

And he's pretty hell-bent on bringing hockey back to Arizona. Guarantee you the NHL would not chip in if it were a Canadian city.

Considering the NFL and MLB broadcasting deals are around 100 billion and the NBA is around 75 billing, this is peanuts.

It's a broadcasting deal is all. I hear what you're saying, and I agree for the most part. My point, initially, was simply that once again the NHL and it's PA are screwed in these deals. The most physically demanding sport outside some positions in the NFL, and they find active ways to screw their players and not pay them. A huge MLB/NFL style broadcasting deal pays the players.

Remember, only recently did ESPN get rights to NHL games again. For many years, the NHL had no national coverage. At least in the US.

For sure, but that's not the argument we should be making.

I'm terms of pure goal scoring, Ovi is up there. I'm terms of overall player he's not the best.

But this is just a celebration of goal scoring and there's no reason to bring in the rest. We've gotten to witness greatness in this generation of players. It's not the same as the earlier greatness, but it's still amazing to see.

Inevitably, though, when you break someone's record, you're GOING to be compared to that person. Gretzky also played in a much different era. More physicality, goalies (both the person and the pads) were smaller. But I still think in terms of pure goal scoring, Gretzky was better.

This is still a tremendous achievement for Ovi, and one that will be hard to break because there just aren't a lot of pure goal scorers anymore. The days of perpetual 60-70 goal scorers is just over. So he's one of a kind in this day an age. And probably going to go down as the best pure goal scorer of the bigger goalie era.

The record is officially broken. Incredible that we got to witness Gretzky's goal scoring record broken. Should also note McDavid broke one of his records in the playoffs last year, so that makes it two!

What a time to be a hockey fan.

This year's gonna be a fun first round match-up for the Toronto Maple Leafs. There's a chance a 20+ year playoff rivalry could be renewed with the Battle of Ontario.
