I'm heading home for Xmas and will finally have a chance to post my collection.

Only problem is, most of them are in boxes, so I'd have to unpack them all, line'em up, and take some shots.

I dunno, is anyone even really interested in seeing it? If there's some interest, I'll post. I have some Vectrex, NES, SNES, GB, N64, GC, DS, Wii, 3DS, PS3, PS4, Saturn and Switch all CIB. Also have a very small collection of CIB Sega/CD/32X (prob less than 5 combined)

Just started finished unboxing most of my stuff. 85% of what arrived arrived without any damage whatsoever. 5% had minimal damage, and 10% had some pretty substantial damage to the point that I'm probably just going to try to resell it. Luckily, most of the more expensive stuff wasn't too damaged. My CIB Chrono Trigger got fucked, though. I'll start sharing pics of the collection in a few days.

Okay, finally got around to organizing and cataloguing most of my collection. Everything in the collection is CIB with the exception of the Virtual Boy games, which are only game + manual. They have repro boxes. A couple of GameCube games are missing manuals too, but I plan to pick the manuals up and complete them. This is like 95% of my collection. I have some games in Saudi -- a few Wonderswan, but mostly Switch, PS3, and PS4. The photos aren't fantastic, but eh, it'll do.

Bits and bobs -- the collections I haven't fleshed out yet

The meat of the collection -- SNES, Gameboy, and N64.
(Look closely and you can see the Fire Red and Ruby games Crystal sent me, for which I'll be sending her some cash soon)

PS4 (missing around 20%)

DS / 3DS -- can you tell I don't care as much about these?

Vectrex -- three furthest left games are new for me, so I'll try them out tomorrow

Virtual Boy. Complete NA library w/ manuals + 3 Japanese-only games (2 of which CIB)

PS3 - missing around 30% of my collection

20241227_175007.jpg20241227_175043.jpg
Switch -- by far my largest collection

I also have a fuckton of Mega Man games that I haven't unboxed yet -- Mega Man Xtreme 1 and 2, and all of the MMBN games.

I know it's a lot, but I've not only played, but 100%'d almost everything in the above pics--at least, for the GameCube, PS3, PS4, Wii, Wii U, and most of the Switch games pictured. I don't know if that makes it better, or worse.

Either way, I'm happy with my collection. I play everything I collect. I get rid of shit games or games I didn't enjoy. I keep only the stuff I liked, or which is unique, or a cool entry to a series I really enjoy.

I'll keep on slowly plugging away at the more expensive SNES, Gameboy, N64, and NES games for now. Probably pick up some Wonderswan, Sega CD and 32X games, too. After that, I'll probably move on to TurboGrafx and Game Gear games. When I finally move back to Canada for good, I'll finish fully fleshing out my collection with the cheaper titles I still want to own.

Whew. Been a busy few days unboxing, logging, and organizing all this shit 💀

Thanks! I still have a long way to go to have my dream collection, but I'm going to shift downgear from here on out and focus on more important things.
Totally understand, once you hit that sweet spot you feel comfortable taking it down a level and just picking things up at a more casual pace. Sadly I'm going the other direction, still, finding things to sell off. I'll be moving onto sealed collector's editions soon, it seems. A couple of those have gone up in price so those are ripe for the pruning. Ah well. Needs must!

At least you were never forced to throw yours out like I was a couple of years ago when I had to move in a very short amount of time.

The two on the right are PVM's for my RGB modded consoles, and the big boi on the left is my general purpose one for everything else. I've got everything hooked up using S-Video and daisy chained so I can show off like this though :D

Honestly, the best ways to find deals on them are on Arcade for sale groups on Facebook (I know, I hate it too) I've seen San Francisco Rush machines going for $600 there and I'm dying to get one. Having the space is a whole other issue now...

Oh wow yeah that is a tough one.

If I had to pick just one though (and I know it's cliché) I'd say it's my copy of Earthbound.

When I first started getting into collecting, I befriended a local shop and they really helped me with growing my collection while still being pretty fair on prices. I got a call one day from them that someone had just traded it in, and they gave me first dibs on it. I was out of town at the time but they held it for me until I got back. It was only $100! This was back in, I want to say 2011 or so? It was definitely the most I had spent on a single game at the time.

The game had always been a curiosity to me, as it's one that everyone talked about but no one had really played. I remember first playing it on an emulator but never really finishing it, so getting to play the actual cartridge made me sit down and do it.

It definitely lived up to the hype, for me anyway. I played through it 4 or 5 times in that same year and loved every minute of it.

Years later, when I met my girlfriend (now wife) we had gotten talking about the game and how she had never played it, but played Mother 3 (Earthbound's sequel). I was the opposite. So we got to bond over each of us playing both and getting to talk about which part we were on throughout the whole journey.

Overall, I think that's what makes it my favorite in my collection just because of the story behind it and the impact it had on my life.

Would love to get a boxed copy someday, but spending $1000 for it is a little hard to swallow.

Great pick. Earthbound is a special game. I remember renting it from a game store as a kid. The huge box always intrigued me. No one ever really talked about the game though, and I remember I put a friend of mine on to the game probably back in 2002 or 2003, before it really blew up.

I'm the opposite of you though -- I played it first on cartridge, but didn't even advance far enough to get Paula (always got lost/stuck right around the town with the flea market). I only ever finished the game on ZSNES.

I'll second that Earthbound is great choice. Legitimately great game, but also genuinely rare. I considered getting a complete copy for so long, but I waited too long in reality. It's £1,500+ for a complete copy over here now. Besides, I've got quite a few individual pieces that are genuinely cool, rare and expensive. I don't really need another.

What's your favorite piece in your collection?
This is not an easy question at all. Weirdly, when it comes to games there isn't a series that I particularly love where I have a particular game or version that is incredibly rare. I have the likes of the Super Metroid Big Box, the Metal Gear Solid Premium edition on PS1, and some complete copies of some rare and valuable games. I nearly said Final Fight, Turtles in Time or Sunset Riders on the SNES because I have particularly fond memories of them when my sister and I were young, and they're all difficult to find and valuable complete. And I nearly said my sealed copy of Final Fantasy Adventure because I bought it new and have the connection with it that way. For a game on pure "not many people have this in their collection", it's probably Turtles III Radical Rescue on the Gameboy, which I bought for £15 at a market in Swansea when I was doing a trial there. It was worth more than that then (probably 10 or so years ago now), and is now one of the rarer games on the system. I've just checked on Ebay and there's nothing complete on there from the UK, but the last complete version in the US seems to have gone for over $1,000. Could be an outlier, but it's a valuable game and from a series that I do actually really love; I spent a long time on Fall of the Foot Clan and Back from the Sewers when I was younger.

But actually, I don't have any sort of emotional connection to those games, and I have a lot of valuable games, but when I thought about actual games that I own that I have some sort of emotional connection to, two options sprung to mind. I own promotional copies of Final Fantasy X and Tekken 4 on PS2. I won the Tekken 4 copy in the regional round of the UK National Tekken 4 Championship (which was a thing in about 2001) and finished top 10 in the country. I won the Final Fantasy X promotional copy when I was working in a video game store and the manager decided to give it as a prize to the person who made the most profit on console sales (or something similar) on a particular day, and that was me. Neither of those is rare or valuable particularly, but they are collection worthy and are both copies that hold good memories for me, so it may one of those.

Consoles are easier to pick, but still difficult to narrow down. It's an easy top 5; my Gameboy Colour Pikachu edition with Pokemon Crystal (the variant with Pokemon Crystal is stupid rare), my Mario 25th Anniversary Gameboy Micro (because it's a thing of absolute beauty), my Panasonic Q (because it's just the best kind of weird and very hard to find it complete), my boxed PsOne with Screen (because it's so pretty and sleek) and my Playstation Net Yaroze complete in box with instructions, and a second box with all the manuals (which are like a small library).

It's probably my Net Yaroze Playstation, and actually that's probably the answer to this question. The PS1 is the console that got me into gaming as a life long hobby. It's my favourite console pretty much for that reason, and always will be. I remember when Net Yaroze was a thing and the Official Playstation Magazine came with a demo disc that actually, for a while, contained full games that people had made on their Net Yaroze consoles. It was always very difficult to get hold of one, but I just had to own one and was going to eventually. I bought this one maybe about three or four years ago for about £600 or so. A fully complete one like mine is now worth £1,500-£2,000.

So yeah, I gave this some genuine thought and there are plenty of contenders, but I think the answer is my Net Yaroze Playstation.

I loved how thorough and detailed that answer was. I learned about so many cool, niche products! I'd never heard of the Net Yaroze, or the big box Super Metroid PAL exclusive.

my Panasonic Q (because it's just the best kind of weird and very hard to find it complete)
Man, I've been really wanting to get a complete Panasonic Q for a while now. I had a couple of chances, but never bit the bullet. Maybe some day, but I'm focusing more on games than consoles now.
