Oh, it was 2002. So 22.6 years.

I didn't think I was that much of a baby...

pacman.jpg

Found some more old names, in a 8/23/2004 demodding draft. I'd imagine it details the full mod team at that time. Sorry, @BigDaddy!

Kiro and Lizzardude are real old C&C names I'd forgotten about. Dragoon Taryn, too.

We've finally gotten around to pruning the trash out of the moderator team. We have been planning to clear out inactive moderators and the like for months now, and have gone through inspecting each moderator individually, everything from their moderator actions since April, how many forums they moderate, how active they are in those forums etc.

The following members have been demodded due to unacceptable inactivity. All individuals had performed less than moderator actions since April, or had done nothing within a month. We also checked each forum to see how active it was in itself and related it to the statistics we got regarding what the member had been doing in their forum.

All Eyez On Me -- Member had no forums and was inactive.
ATCO51 -- Member was inactive.
BigDaddy -- Member had extremely low activity.
Char -- Member had extremely low activity.
Crystal Gryphon -- Member had extremely low activity.
Excalibur -- Member had extremely low activity.
Fred Man -- Member was inactive.
Itachi Uchiha -- Member was inactive.
Keleois -- Member was extremely inactive.
Kiro -- Member was extremely inactive.
Lizzardude -- Member was extremely inactive.
Piccolo920 -- Member had extremely low activity.
poop one -- Member was extremely inactive.
S'lia -- Member had extremely low activity (with only 1-2 posts a month in his forums.)
Shadowspirit -- Member was inactive.
SkullWorm -- Member had extremely low activity.
skydragon21 -- Member had extremely low activity.
Sonic -- Member had extremely low activity.
The X Factor -- Member had extremely low activity.
the_promised_land -- Member had extremely low activity.
Thumper -- Member had extremely low activity.
Xpazeman -- Member had extremely low activity.

These moderators are those we perceive as being below the standard of activity we expect from our staff here at GameWinners.com. After a discussion yesterday evening, we settled on a reasonable decision that individual moderators should be able to find at least 5 things to do around each of their forums per month, whether it be closing threads, slitting threads, moving threads, etc. We do of course understand that in some cases your forums may be slow, do not require much moderation, or you have a large number of co-moderators. However, we're still giving you this "formal notification" that you're advised to try to increase your activity within your forums or risk being demodded in the future.

Mods who posted in USCisis80's mod vote (June 7 2001) that I have for some reason. It was so cute of us to think that anything wasn't leaking from that forum.

Damn, this brings back memories of ASCII signature requests. Some of y'all were insane with it. The fades and shadow/glow effects some would have too... I was obsessed with this shit when I was 14.
I remember the crazy low file size that could be used.

Also at one time someone found a way to have rotating signature through a 3rd party site

I'm pretty sure it took a loooooooooot of convincing to get Al to allow linking to signature images, so the low size limit was the only way we got it okayed.

There are a few here who still use the rotating pngs here (Coleman, FQ). Fairly simple, it just requires external web hosting.

I also remember having one set up that pulled information from XBOX Live to display my "currently playing" and gamer points.

Oh, and foobar "now listening to" rotators.

Al would replace the 1kb “New Thread” graphic with text to save server requests. He wasn’t a fan of images.

The other signature rules were mostly to prevent abuse, because, you know. People.

I ended up being glad at never being a mod, seems like such a thankless unpaid job that involved dull work like splitting threads, and drama when a little turd gets himself a warning at your hands and tries to challenge it.

I will say that I remained ever curious as to how my own failed mod vote went when I was still SindarKng and pretty well hated on the site, but unfortunately those got moved to the smod forum each time and didn't make it into blacklotus' massive leak.

It was especially fun to be anywhere on staff when everyone thought to were Al and therefore you kept getting requests to do things on an almost daily basis.

It was definitely a weird thing… and I can’t quite think of something specific that we’d encounter in our adult lives to liken it to other than comparing it to people who like attending parties versus people who like hosting them. For some, it was absolutely a power thing, early on in the days here a bunch of us reminisced about MichaelAngelo, who was probably the most infamous example of someone who just craved absolute authority over a bunch of teenaged nerds. For some, the “host” type, they treated certain forums like their pet projects, they made sure everything was organized and clean, that members knew where important information was, etc. Then, there were the “attendees”, like you describe yourself, who were kinda indifferent about being a mod, but still would have, yet didn’t get broken-hearted over not being selected for various child labor law violations.

As far as whether or not you’d want to see what people said in a mod vote, my insta-mod thread was leaked to me (by two smods, how’s that for forum security?) and because of that, I entered the mod forum for the first time knowing that a good section of people didn’t think I had been around long enough to be qualified and resented the fact that I didn’t have to go through the typical voting process. It’s a double-edged sword, like taking a peek at your HR file.

Truth be told, I’m still not qualified to deal with y’all.

I loved seeing my mod vote, the couple of people who knew me and the couple of "sure, I guess?" votes and no one else voted. My second vote some people remembered me from my first stint, but most still didn't know me. It was funny.

I knew you, but you were already a mod at the time, so your other returns must have been after I was gone. You shit on my first GW spin-off when you were on HTML & Sitebuilding or Advertising or whatever it was. LOOK AT ME NOW.

I got insta modded like 3 or 4 times. Basically whenever I posted a single time after like a year off I was given a forum of my choice.

Shoe-in for CE. FOR. EVER.

Hell no. We don’t claim him like that now.

Maybe he sucked his way to the top.

Can confirm. He sucked his way to the mod forum, VMG forum, smod forum, and eventually… right here.

Oh, you did, but you made sure to let me know how much of a noob I was at the time, though. In your defense, it was absolutely terrible. I wanna remember you calling me on all kinds of formatting discrepancies, an abundance of forums and zero content, shitty color palette choices, etc.

I don't remember that at all, lol, but my bad! Hopefully it was done in a constructive way and not as shitty as it sounds, because I don't remember being that much of an asshole. I definitely WAS, but never towards others.

Nah, you were absolutely cool about it. That’s actually how you and I ended up working on different stuff. I respected the shit out of the criticism because I really didn’t know what the hell I was doing, and clearly it helped point me in a direction that helped me contribute to the forums more. If I recall, you had PG on a ProBoards or some other free forum, and you were working on getting the vB stuff together. Out of you, those brothers, and myself… you were the first to get the vB license, then myself, and then the brothers after they saw how our forums took off during the height of the server load issues at GW.

Good, I'm glad I wasn't an asshole, lol. I think those were the ezboards days for me, we went ezboards to xoasis to vB and then we took off on vB, it was nice to see it. Joe and Jake, I forgot about them! They had...Ignite Gaming? I think that was it. Joe got pissed at me one day because he thought I demoted him after he launched his site. Truth is i just fucked up his permissions while rearranging forums while he was online and he threw a tantrum, but it was enough to cause him and his brother to leave PG and take a couple of people with him. Shame, could've had a nice working relationship between the forums, but no.

Yeah, those guys were always kinda instigating an unnecessary rivalry back then. We were all ripping off of GW, but they had a chip on their shoulder being the late arrival while having daddy’s debit card saved on the computer. You and I hacked and slashed our way to opening a site, and they got theirs handed to them, so I’m not so sure that would have worked out. You and I viewed it with an entirely different sets of ethics than them.

Yeah, they had it all handed to them, even went on and on about their dad doing it for them. Must've been nice. Ah well, we had our sites and we did just fine :)

The way I see it is this… they had money and gimmicks, we facilitated an atmosphere for people that was refreshing from what GW was at that time. They can have their resources, I was perfectly fine just doing my part to make a place for people to bullshit around. If you do right, you don’t need a bunch of flashy shit.

Another name popped into my head:

Shiven

I know @Rick52 probably remembers him, as well as @Fire Queen , since he was part of our Fire Emblem community.

I remember him. Not from my original time at GW, but he’s one of the ones that joined up at RS for the period of time that was around. Good dude from what I remember, was always very involved in the forums.

I’m fairly certain that you had high friends or friends in high places help support your case, too. Back then, a lot of it rode on who would vouch for you.

Yep. That's exactly how it worked.

If you became friends with mods a lot of time they told you "go post in this forum for a bit so we can get you nominated"

Absolutely. But for my mod vote, it was from being tight with that C&C/C&P crowd that was always on MSN. Mystic and poj are the main mods I recall talking to, and I absolutely did not post in C&P until they told me I should...

It was the smod vote a little later where I was in with you, John and Brig. I'm fairly sure I saw that too, though I think it was less a vote as it was convincing Al I wouldn't implode shit.

I claim I absorbed Brig's admin powers because she didn't really how to do stuff at that level.

By the time we were all admins, you were already an admin on the other forum I believe. From what I remember, Brig was always pretty indifferent about being an admin, even when she was more involved. John and I were the main ones that had shit we wanted to get done around the forums, because at that point… we were seeing Al come by once or twice a week if we were lucky, and anything major had to be communicated through email if we wanted a response within 12-48 hours. As soon as we became admins, it was on, we were able to do all the stuff.

Yep, I remember berserker and Zeld and Relmitos, but I figured Shiven would be the only other FE regular that might be remembered outside of that subforum.

I could be wrong though, they might just have been on other parts of the forums that I didn't go to.
@Kat should remember him as well

That checks out. It must have been summer 2004 that I got smod, because the first AIM chat log I have with you as AWickedZero from 2004-02-16 was you cramming me into GWo as admin out of spite for Shawn and Nutters. I think FuckThisGame was the next one after that, because I made that blue-banner with my middle finger on it, but I believe that was the last of your spin-offs I was involved with. Chat log had me mentioning having been an admin at Fool's Paradise at some time before you asked, but I have 0 recollection of who ran that one...

I see where I started helping Brig with HorridThinking site admin stuff around June 2004, then I think her and I were dating by August 2004, and I left the UK for the last time around November 2005 when we got married. It was either right before I left, or just after I got to America, that I was bumped to GW admin... I feel like it was probably when still in the UK though, so summer 2005.

So I joined Spring 2002, modded in mid-2003, smodded in summer 2004, admin in summer 2005. Naturally by 2006 my ego felt it should be on Al's level and by 2010 I was at critical mass!

That sounds about right. I think I finally got removed as an admin sometime in the end of 04 or 05. I know I had fallen off in activity, because I had taken on a lot more responsibility at my job at the time and at home helping with my siblings. That lines up with your timeline, and then before that… I had a few different AIM names, which you may have had logs on as well. I want to say we were already friends before I changed my name to Wicked away from Heretic, I want to remember thinking that was slightly more appropriate for a username as a “representative” of the staff.

I think I lost a hard drive full of logs somewhere early on, which probably had your other screen names in there. I know I wasn't always BlackHeartThorn, I had ImmortalisPhasma and TheVrykolakas as well, but I cannot recall which of them was first. It might also have started on MSN since we were all on that to begin with. I have some logs there too but not earlier than 2004. :shrug

You and I definitely talked under the ImmortalisPhasma name, I certainly remember that one. I should also be under your MSN logs if you had that, but, by that point we used AIM for a lot of the forum stuff.

We've finally gotten around to pruning the trash out of the moderator team.
That wording though. 😂

Haha, I had completely forgotten that I got demodded for inactivity. I must have been remodded fairly quickly, though, because I got demodded for being an idiot while modding PIMI (oh the irony) around fall of 2005.

Oh, 100%! I was trippin' thinking this shit mattered as much as I did.

In your defense, there was a time where, for the sake of continuity among the forums, it did matter in a “localized to just GW” sense. At one point, we had a few hundred forums and over a hundred mods there. It would have been a mess if we had zero organization, and by the time you were an admin, the old strict days were forgotten and people were pushing the envelope again in ways that weren’t really seen since the goatse days.

Haha what happened here? I don't remember you being a mod of PIMI, but also I don't remember you ever giving into the dumbass divisive antics we got up to.
I was somewhat active in PIMI before I modded it, but I don't think I made a ton of posts in there. I would read the threads and occasionally post something stupid or participate in stuff like "post your desktop." When ksd decided to drop from modding it, for some reason her and I thought it would be funny for me to take her spot. I think Victoria and The Creeper were the other mods in there at the time, and maybe one other person who I'm not quite remembering.

I think around that same time PIMI was on zero tolerance (or at least under stricter watch by the admins) due to the regulars' shenanigans. Also, when you gave someone a warning, you could log it in their user notes so that there would be a record of everything together in one place.

With that context, here's what happened from what I recall: I jokingly called someone a douchebag, and then someone (also jokingly, I believe) replied to me saying, "Nice flame, douchebag." I promptly replied to them with a "Warned for flaming," thinking it would be funny to warn them for doing exactly what I had just did. Someone immediately (and rightfully) called it out as BS. In my dumb mind I was just messing around. I probably should have included some sort of "just kidding" text or winky-face emoji to show this, but Instead I grabbed a shovel and said some more stupid stuff. Eventually @VashTheStampede stepped in and I got demodded.

At one point in that thread when the writing was on the wall, I warned Vash for spam and said, "Oh Vash, you, as an admin, should know better. For shame." To hammer home the absurdity, I actually logged it in his user notes (lol). I think that thread is lost to time, but my demodding thread in the mod forum was in the blacklotus leak. I remember us having a good laugh about it near the end of the old forums in 2017.

Lmao that is the most PIMI story I've heard in a long time. Even though I'm not sure who was involved in the exchange, I can still somehow picture it so clearly.

I attribute at least 1 gray hair to that rat-king of trolls and cannot walk down the topical analgesic creme aisle in CVS without triggering PTSD.

Hey man, I didn't cook up that scheme! I just bandwagoned on, like a good lil mid-teens internet troll.

I actually think Tom! was the one that came up with that idea. I remember signing into IRC one day and he was like "hey we're all doing this thing, you should do it too lol". Ironic, since he is now out -- and flamboyantly so.

I cannot even remember who 'Tom' was, so... Cool.

It's all of your collective fault that I turned into a slut to over compensate.
