So I watched the first episode of the forst season a couple ofnweeks ago and wasn't terribly impressed. Is it worth it to slog through?
It truly depends on how closely you want it to follow the books.

Episode 1, Winternight, was the closest to the books with the exception of Perrin’s backstory

Each subsequent season gets closer to the main plot line of the series, but season 1 is pretty rough. I’d recommend binging it to reach seasons 2 and 3 quickly

So just finished the season finale. Overall I liked it. Easily the best season finale of the 3. Spoiler filled thoughts below

  1. Mat and the Finn, loved it
  2. Nynaeve breaking her block, glad it didn’t take another 5 books
  3. Siuan dying… I didn’t see that happening. She played a decent sized role in the books, but I suppose almost anyone can be Egwene’s advisor, so it isn’t the end of the world. I guess we will be getting a lot less of Gareth Bryne
  4. Gawyn not being a part of the coup saves him from one of his first boneheaded decisions
  5. Moiraine… how did she feel siuan die? Were they bonded like first sisters?
  6. I guess Moiraine isn’t being put on a shelf for 8 books. Is she going to stay in and take Cadsuane’s role?
  7. Sammael being captured was the biggest waste. “You will train Rand”…never mind. You’re dead

1. I read the books so long ago, I completely forgot about him. I was honestly baffled when that scene happened.
2. I liked how they handled it and now we don't have to wait. Hopefully that gives her more to do.
3. Yeah, she was there in the books the entire time but I don't remember her playing a huge role that can't be filled with Moraine. And the fact that we haven't seen Bryne yet meant I was not expecting to see him at all, even though I loved his character.
5. Yeah, I don't get that either. But they played up their past in the last episode to set it up. I'll accept it, especially with how it helped her against Lanfear.
6. I still want to see Cadsuane - she's badass, like Elaida but competent. But Rosamund Pike is the *perfect* casting so I bet Amazon mandated she be there the entire time.
7. Yeah, that kind of sucked, I wonder if they have enough time in the series to use the forsaken trains Rand story. Moghedien is pretty awesome, but where is Graendel? I need forsaken boobies.

I thought the finale was well done. They had incredible episodes this season, but the finale was fine. Not spectacular, but I enjoyed it. The introduction of Balefire was great, and I'm so glad that Thom was not killed off. I loved his character in the book. He's like a Han Solo type - doesn't have the power of the others but he's cunning and charming to boot.
