Could be a knock-on effect from Microsoft laying off basically its entire physical operations. If Maximum Games was working with or going through them to ease the process of having discs pressed, but that division no longer exists, it would effectively force their hand unless they scrambled and found another avenue quickly. I don't really have any insight into how Microsoft's backend process works though, so purely a guess. What do you interpret this to mean? Doesn't it sound to you like MS is strong-arming smaller publishers into ceasing physical distribution for XS consoles? That sounds too crazy to believe though
If someone a bit larger, like Red Art Games or especially Limited Run Games, start doing mass cancellations then there's something hugely wrong going on.
And heads will roll if Penny Blood and/or Armed Fantasia get cancelled since I've already paid for those...
