I missed this thread and haven't read it (hey, just like a wolf game!)

I voted start again with commented changes:
1. No, or significantly altered, solo roles.

Either the game ends too soon (fool, for example. Though this one is less of an issue) or the game gets a little too deceptive with changing teams and alliances (Cupid or instigator)

2. Game threads sometimes get easy too effing long, with hundreds of post per day cycle, but probably nothing that can be done here, as we need these open long enough for all time zones.

So mainly the solo role needs to be reworked or scrapped, in my humble opinion.

Having said this, I can only imagine how time intensive it is to Host a wolf game, so I don't blame anyone for not wanting to deal with hosting and fielding backlash when players get salty

Ah, so the game is more flexible in comparison then. Then hopefully work doesn't get in the way of that.
Not at all. The campaign I’m in right now has had about a week long hiatus for real-life reasons but with it being on a forum, we can still talk about it and pick up right where we left off with no difficulty. We don’t need to wait for our schedules to align

I voted to keep the rules the same. The one thing that's a bit annoying is putting so much time into a game only to have it lost to a Fool or whatever lynch, but I get that playing these roles must be fun, and that they serve to balance a game.

In general most people have been receptive to modifying their behavior. Though no one called my out on it directly, I've probably been too critical of others when we've lost. If you see that, call me out on my behavior and I'll own up to it... But I get that I shouldn't foist that responsibility on others.

I think the rule about not bringing IRL stuff into it is fine, but it can be a little annoying when people vote for you because you haven't been active, but you've actually just been Living Life.

tl;dr: bring back wolf; I don't care how

The change to the fool could be: fool wins, game continues to see which larger faction wins
I considered this too, but then it defeats the purpose of making the town hesitant to lynch to balance it more in favor of the wolves.

Ya know instead of scrapping the Fool isn’t it possible that the town could just like…not randomly vote on day 1? Or use the ample kill roles that are provided.
That's crazy talk! What fun would that be?

If we really can't contain our bloodthirst, maybe the fool could instead be like, a suicide bomber, and they take out two random townies with them if they're lynched? And they can still get credit for winning their win condition. Then the wolves would have a big boost and it would be chaotic and fun.

After thinking about it, I'm leaning more towards giving D&D a go. The thought of participating intrigues me, but I've never done this on a forum level before. Only in person and that was well over a decade ago. I'm gonna need a refresher course on this.

The fool role would become a goal everyone wants. It allows you to play carefree and you won’t pissoff anyone because you cannot impact the final outcome, only your own.

And the game continues

I just went through this thread, since it was already pretty large by the time I saw it.

I’m all for seeing the games return as long as everyone is on board with the rules or etiquette or whatever y’all want to call it.

It’s one thing to be disappointed at a loss, it’s another to be a sore loser, or to become so competitive that you get to a point of playing in a manner that could be considered unsportsmanlike.

It’s one thing to pretend like you’re busy and just don’t reply to a thread, it’s another to dupe your friends into thinking your best friend’s cat’s sister died of tuberculosis.

The issues I’ve seen people face in this game are so simple to resolve, but the solutions get muddled in the textual diarrhea as the game progresses.

If anything, I hope people take a restart as an opportunity to not play AS hard, and remember that it’s just a game at the end of the day.

For the record, if anybody does try anything like that, my response is going to be "wow, so sorry to hear that. Guess we should lynch you so you can focus on more important things." That's why I don't care.
so if I get the fool rule I should make something up like that to get killed, got it :p

if you make it obvious that you're the fool, no one will vote for you, and the wolves will kill you at night at some point.

When I played Fool in the most recent game, I had to make utterly sure I wasn't being to obviously sus. Any time I consider posting, I had to think "will this potentially get me outed as the Fool?"

Of course, if you're sus in EVERY game, then it doesn't matter, and truth be told, being purposely sus in every game regardless of the role is kinda fun.
