I wrote a summary of the event. I thought it was pretty decent given we knew the first party lineup was a bit thin. Also credit to the leaker who predicted 3 "7" games, which is what we got:

Some stuff about Nintendo's Museum and Theme Parks

Super Mario Galaxy Movie

Super Mario Galaxy 1 & 2 - on Switch, plus amiibo, available physically or digitally (separately or in a bundle), 2 October

Mario Tennis Fever, "a talking flower provides riveting commentary", adventure mode featuring Mario babies, 12 February

Super Mario Bros Wonder Switch 2 Edition, featuring a new multiplayer mode, Spring 2026

A real life talking flower toy, as seen in the above two games, why the fuck not, Spring 2026

Yoshi and the Mysterious Book, new Yoshi game, Spring 2026

End of 40th Anniversary Segment. They forgot to announce Super Mario Sunshine on NSO, fools

Storm Lancers, 80s themed rogue-like, out today

Dinkum, wildlife themed survival game inspired by Australia, put another shrimp on the barbie on 6 November (it's on PC already)

Popukum, multiplayer-only platformer, has colours, match those colours!, Winter

Tomodachi Life, some shit announced, Spring 2026

Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection, 30 October (digital, 12 December for physical)

FFVII Remake Integrade, the first one (what a dumb naming system), coming to Switch 2, 22 January

Lynked: Banner of the Spark, "rogue-life" RPG that has good reviews on PC, out today

Hades II, digital 25 September, physical 20 November

New Amiibo for Kirby: Air Riders, plus a second Direct for the game on the way, still due on 20 November

Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment, the musou/warriors spin-off, split screen multiplayer (thank god), 6 November

Dragon Quest VII Reimagined, was leaked, 3D-style remake, 5 February

Nintendo Today smart phone app (the one we all forgot about) gets a Kirby update

Switch Online + Expansion gets Virtual Boy?! Needs a physical accessory?! Out 17 February on Switch and Switch 2. Both a proper plastic and cardboard accessory are coming

Fatal Frame II Crimson Butterfly Remake, early next year

Switch 2 Editions of Pirate Warriors 4, Overcooked! 2, Stardew Valley (w/ mouse controls and 4 player split-screen), Human Fall Flat

PowerWash Simulator 2, co-op online and split screen, I prefer doing it in real life, out in the Autumn

Suika Game Planet, featuring 360 FRUIT ROTATION!!!, Winter

Metroid Prime 4 Beyond, featuring a motorcycle, 4 December, new amiibo too, not much new footage but the date people wanted

Donkey Kong Bananza DLC, DK Island & Emerald Rush, work for Void King (lol), based around Emerald rush challenges, challenges also go back to previous levels, out TODAY! (hello Tommy), demo for the main game too

Pokémon Pokopia, definitely not Animal Crossing, 2026, TIL notepad has spell-check now because I didn't put the accent on

Pokémon Legends: Z-A, a bit of footage, looks lit, 16 October (as was known)

Pokémon Legends: Z-A DLC called Mega Dimension, concept was leaked

Danganronpa 2x2, remake of the original plus some new content, Switch & Switch 2, 2026

Dynasty Warriors Origins, best in the series IMO, comes to Switch 2 plus some DLC, both out 22 January

Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection, 13 March

Quick Games Segment Inbound:
  • Two Point Museum, 28 October
  • Disgaea 7 Complete, 10 October
  • EA Sports FC 26, 26 September

Mario Galaxy 2 seems intriguing. I haven't turned on my Switch in a long time, but if it's not a full price game, I could definitely be convinced to get it.
I'd guess that the digital and physical bundle is full price but the digitally available individual games will be cheaper.

The Bananza DLC is up and is US$20.

I would get the DLC if it was free, but probably not for $20. I already didn't get all the nanners because I don't like doing boss rush stuff, and Emerald Rush looks to be a timed feature that doesn't really interest me at all. I'm actually quite annoyed they locked DK Isle behind a paywall. My brother hasn't got a S2 yet, but I figure once he does, he will probably grab the DLC and just borrow my game cart.

I'm still most excited about ZA, but again, bummed that the news is more features locked behind another paywall immediately after launch. Really? Just fuckin include it already christ.

Not a whole lot interesting to me.

I'm sure the next Mario movie will be good, but give me Wario and Waluigi you cowards.

I already own both Galaxy games and don't have much interest in replaying either of them.

Would be excited for Mario Tennis if most of the recent Mario sports games hadn't been so bland. The campaign looks a bit interesting, but idk. Not sure how I feel about having special rackets instead of character-specific moves, but the roster size is great. Aces wasn't bad, but I'm hopeful that the quality will be closer to something like Mario Tennis Open.

Already beat Wonder and probably wouldn't care enough about the new modes even if I had people to play it with.

Yoshi game could be good, but I don't see myself getting it. Haven't played any of the other artsy Yoshi games.

Tomodachi Life I always wanted to try, so I might get the new one. Pretty funny game from what I've seen. I love some of the stupid Mii interactions they've done in games like that and Miitopia. Just wish they'd stop giving us better versions of the Mii Maker in specific games only rather than actually updating the main one.

Virtual Boy is crazy and I can't believe I saw someone predict this one happening. With that said, I don't see the old red headache games being worth me buying special gear for. Feel like they should've at least updated them to include a more colorful toggle.

Metroid Prime looks cool, but I'm not sure it's for me. I tried the first one recently and sort of enjoyed it for a while, but I got stuck in the ice area and haven't played since.

Not that interested in Bananza, but they got me with the nostalgia music in the DLC. Maybe I'll try the demo at least.

Pokopia piqued my interest, but I'm still a bit wary. Looks like it could be pretty cool, but maybe not if it's full price. Hopefully there's enough Ditto customization to make the player character look less ugly.

Still haven't seen anything from Pokemon Legends that's wowed me enough to want it. First one was fun, but didn't hold my interest enough to finish it. I love mega evolutions and remember some other cool things in there, but restricting me to a city environment does not sound that fun.

Kirby Air Riders is still the one thing I'm actually hyped for, and I'm curious to see what else Sakurai could possibly have to spend an entire new direct talking about. It seems like just a direct upgrade from the original, and I feel like he covered a lot already.

Anyway, here's a meme.

I agree having read/seen a bit more of the DLC. I've still got a lot of bananas to find anyway. Can't say I'm too bothered by DK Isle but I get why people are.

This just seemed like a weird omission. We know Sunshine is coming to NSO+, why not at least release that and claim you can play every home 3D Mario game on the system?

I am now finding out some details of ZA that are troubling and potentially game-ruining.

First of all, Pokémon sent from HOME to ZA, or obtained in ZA, are locked in ZA forever. That's... fucking stupid. Thanks. I have been hyper training Pokémon for years. I want my fucking Lucario from Kalos in this game, but not forever. FFS.

Second, they are locking mega stones behind NSO and fucking ranked battles. The same ranked battles that only a small percentage of players engage with because of the sheer amount of fucking sweats playing ranked.

I know Gamefreak doesn't give a shit, but for fucks sake. One step forward, five steps back.

Yeah, I feel like the Direct in general has been soured by what we've found out after it.

The Bananza DLC and Super Mario Galaxy 1 & 2 look good, but they're both overpriced. Even by Nintendo standards $40 for a 18 and 15 year old game with likely minimal improvements outside of a resolution bump that their emulator can do in seconds is very steep. $20 for the Bananza stuff is very high too.

That Z-A stuff is just hilarious in a bad way.
