I know Kelly disagrees but if its another collectathon like Odyssey, it's a Day 1 for me.
if it's a collectathon that's challenging and doesn't have a bunch of filler animations to pad out the gameplay, i'm down to clown

edit: i should say tight platforming rather than "challenging"

Switch 1 systems are going to be dirt cheap on the secondary market when this gets released.
I'm wondering if it's best to trade in my Switch today or wait for a deal when the Switch 2 comes out. Most consoles get some sort of trade-in deal, but I could definitely see the value being better today than in 3 months.

Ooh, I like the theory that DK64 not being on the eShop still is an indication that there will be a remaster at some point. What if they announce that in April? They better include the "tag anywhere" feature that modders added or streamline the collecting so you're not swapping monkeys a million times and doing endless hours of backtracking.

funniest part of that reveal video was the dramatic showing off of all the exact same ports and buttons on the main console lol

i kind of can't believe they just went with "switch 2" for the name but a) they are marketing directly to moms who don't know shit about video games (and have maybe learned their lesson from the Wii U) b) the most successful console of all time is also just the console name with a 2 after it

also i don't want to be a debbie downer but this is nintendo we're talking about here. we're not getting compilations or ports of anything. the switch will launch with the new mario kart and 1-2 Switch 2 and seven thousand shovelware games with either "Hentai" or "Ecchi" in the title. i want a new star fox game or kid icarus: uprising port just as much as the next person. not happening. i would love to be proven wrong but i've learned never to bet against nintendo when it comes to drip feeding to entitled gamers.

also in march it will mark eight years since the switch came out and there are still only two themes to pick from. such a far cry from checking the 3ds theme shop weekly

go to the eshop and go to new releases and let me know how long it takes before you see one of those games lol. bonus points if it's clearly ai art
Fair enough, I don't really use the eshop so I guess that's why I never saw it. That's pretty fkn wild though that they're that numerous and blatant on what's supposed to be a family-friendly console

yeah, you would think nintendo would have the best moderation but it's just gone completely to shit. and granted im sure none of these games feature any actual nudity in any form (from looking at their store pages almost all of them are fucking slide puzzles lmao) but it's just so sad. scrolling through the eshop used to be a fun experience and now it's just miserable because 80% of the games (i desperately wish i was exaggerating) are cheap unity asset flips with ai art proudly featured on the store page to lure people in.

side note: nintendo used to push a weekly New Releases article to the News app on the switch that had a list of all the new releases on the eshop on a given week. they still do that, but now they require you click through to go to the actual eshop to see the games now. previously, the list was included in the news article. one of those lists included one of those games with Hentai in the title lol. i'm not positive but i feel like those two things are connected

Isn’t the stand new?
in the sense that it will actually function, yes. the kickstand on the current switch is the size of like two fingernails and offers just about as much support

I initially thought this, but then look at Sony.
Also the new joycons sliding around like mice. I did vaguely mention this capability on the first post (the "lasers" bit) but I didn't really think Nintendo would actually do it. At least if that's actually what's happening there rather than some artistic flourish.
Oh is this a thing? I thought it was just the video style but now I'm wondering if I missed something?

The leaks suggested that the joycons have sensors that would allow them to function like a mouse. Lenovo's Legion Go has a similar feature that the leaker compared it to.

Obviously a bit different as the Lenovo's are vertical and have a base, but it's the same principle.

No guarantees of course, but it's an oddly specific detail.

Those "R2 and L2" buttons in the back look weird. It kind of looks like they're designed for your middle finger to push or squeeze inward instead of how they normally are in post controllers.

Various new patents Nintendo filed a few months ago have recently been published.

Firstly, double mouse capability. There's also some other drawings with one joy-con in a regular orientation and one as a mouse.

UFnjfnWbo_7P-BI5IZEc5Y4du6SqelS3WKXgWMJ_xdP8URVwsV0LgyLrDWGEPe8H.png

A design for a charging dock:

There's also this. Seems to be a pro controller of sorts. The right one at least can be used as a mouse like the regular joy-con. That said there's no guarantee that they will ever make this.

9fcnkbjrqR9HYK55oj7bVjsD_2tPW-Vfm9SgDySE3ocFpO5NvgwTJCh7N176kc8D.png

There's also some cool technical detail about how they do the magnetic connection and disconnection, but ultimately it ends up being "press a button on the back of the joy-con".

A few other bits. Both new joy-con seem to have magnetic sensors. The IR sensor that the right joy-con has on the current Switch has been dumped. There are new wrist-straps which unsurprisingly are magnetic this time.

Here are the links to the applications:

The joy-con

The main system
The wrist strap

We're getting close to Switch 2 time.

Nintendo have decided to host a "surprise" Nintendo Direct tomorrow (once again correctly leaked by Nate The Hate) which they say will not include any Switch 2 information, but I can't help but feel there'll be plenty of stuff there that will also appear on the new console.

Also, according to another leaker there will be "a game that will cause a lot of conversation".

motion controls are shit

they work for light gun shooters and maybe some party games.

I've played both Conduit games, beat the first and played a giant chunk of the second. Those games have very flexible control set ups and the issue still remains that you have to point the controller in the area the light bar will see it (not even at the TV like you would assume) and then maintain that position for numerous hours. My wrists do not like it, my arms don't like it, my hands don't like it. The Wiimote is uncomfortable to hold for long periods of time, my hands don't like it. I shouldn't feel discomfort playing a video game.

Edit: Hell, if they had made a single controller that was shaped like a normal fucking controller and you can use like a motion controller, it would be an improvement.

I was joking with my comment. It came into my brain out of nowhere and it sounded funny so I posted it. I actually get where you're coming from. FWIW, I enjoyed motion controls in MP3, but I did have some of the same annoying issues you describe from time to time. When it came to MP:R, I played the entire game without motion controls. It's just nice being lazy, laying on my back, and not having to worry about sitting a very specific way

On the flipside, gyro motion controls are my favourite way to do FPS aiming stuff on the Switch. I'd like to say I prefer it over using the right stick because I haven't used a console as my main FPS device in about 15 years but it seems a lot of people online share that opinion in stuff like Splatoon.

One thing I don't like about Switch controllers is their range. I sometimes play at my desk and if I put my hands slightly below the level of the desk I often lose connection which doesn't happen with any other controller I've tried.

i love it in splatoon, cuz it serves as more of a supplement than the main method of control. if my reticle doesn't move far enough with just my thumbstick and i can tilt my controller slightly to make up the difference? it's hard to master but it feels so good when it clicks

Oh yeah actually, I think I played Prime with motion enhancement. I play TotK the same way. I turned it off once because the archery was, for a specific moment, a bit funky, but when I turned it off, I immediately regretted it and turned it back on. I use mostly sticks, but will move the Switch a little bit to make very fine adjustments. Works really nicely.

What was Tomodachi Life like? I've heard of it a lot but have no idea why it's so popular
it's not a very traditional game, that's for sure. it's kind of like a more arcadey version of the sims where all the characters are miis you plug in and you have little to no control over what they do with their time. it's almost like an ant farm with an insane amount of absurd humor. it's one of those games that's way more fun if you're playing it with other people who also have it. on my island on the original tomodachi life for the 3ds, i had myself and a bunch of my friends and some original characters and also the official shaq mii, who fell in love with my original character daphne. it's pretty silly but it's not going to be very fun without someone to enjoy all the absurdity with
