Utah's team will wear jerseys in their first season with "UTAH" scrawled across the front to represent the club's roots within the state and dedication to its new fan base.

The only reason to do what the Commanders did and go with a generic name first is to artificially inflate costs and merch sales. Force people to buy something generic year one before switching to a real name the second year. It's stupid.

I think the generic name might actually be related to how quickly they'd need to squeeze out all the branding before the start of the season. It's not a quick thing to get everything out there and properly marked as IP/trademarked so that other people don't go make versions of the logo and color schemes that are similar enough to try and get to it first.

It's dumb, but they have the added bonus of making more money off it. People who buy the gear in year 1 might also be able to hold onto it as collectors items in the future.
