It's 2S so each term has a pair with its "opposite".

Edit: also as a technicality it's not 101 to the 50th power, it'd be 101 times 50. One number is reasonably human countable, the other is greater than the number of atoms in the observable universe

Also, technically, wouldn't having 1 in the denominator not count as a fraction even if it's written in that form? Since it would be a whole number and not a fraction of a number, if ya get what I mean.

I did a double take and thought the same thing at first. IMO it'd be clearer written as 1 + 2 +.... 100, so you know it's the original expression twice, just with one reversed.

That's why the formula cuts it in half the original idea was you had a hundred 101 cuz you lined them up and columns and then you cut it in half cuz you counted twice
