So I had a role idea that might be absolutely hated but I'm curious as to how it would go down.

The Alderman - If the Alderman is in the game, individual post counts are capped at 50. 51st post results in death.
A really interesting idea. Would definitely result in a lot less shitposting. For my games I generally lean towards not wanting to infringe on what people are allowed to say. You can claim whatever you want, swear on whatever dead relatives, etc. So my first thought is I don’t like it. But the shitposting definitely creates a problem, in that probably half the players aren’t as engaged with the game because they literally just can’t take the time to wade through 100s of useless GIFs.

I don't like this, because when you're playing with a known group of people, you can quickly learn what they are/aren't willing to commit to. For me, I don't care about superstitious stuff so I don't worry about crossing those boundaries. For people like Vash and Dean, each game would just become "do you swear or do you not swear?" if no boundaries are set (whether hard boundaries or group consensus).

Agreed that the shitposting has gone a bit far. Gifs and shitposting can be fun, but gifs for the sake of gifs is just annoying.

Other people need to post though. Sometimes half the people alive don’t post, so those who are alive have reached what they determine from what’s been said and are just waiting for something new to occur
This is honestly part of why my shitposting has gotten out of hand. I've tried to make it fun for myself (perhaps borderline selfishly), maybe it gets a bit out of hand but even though my post counts are high - a lot of my posts  actually pertain to what's going on in game. I'll come in with full shitpost mode when the day is basically settled though.

I wish people wouldn’t do it. It’s hard to fairly police when people have “gone too far” in trying to assert their innocence.

Similar to trying to ban role claiming, what’s too far in “hinting”? If I want to claim Bell Ringer, what’s too far if role claiming is banned?

Posting a GIF of Quasimodo?
Posting the Liberty Bell over and over?
Saying “MY ROLE RHYMES WITH ZELLS DINGER”?

I've concluded that banning role claiming is impossible to do realistically. It sucks cause I really like the concept of Vash's game but as seen last game, people will just find a way around it.

The thing is, everyone is cool with it on the surface until a mislynch is about to happen. Then the villager getting voted is going to try and pull out all the stops in order to survive. Which is at the very least telling everyone what they are. Unless they’re Jawneh.

Speaking from personal experience, the size of the threads is often intimidating and discouraging. I've gotten to the point where I don't even bother reading half of the thread or more.

That's why I think banning role claiming is an impossible task. People will always find a way around censorship. WRT the other thing, I think a basic ground rule like "don't bring your own real life into the game to assert a claim" or something similar but more poetic could work.

I think another part of the issue (and I know you can relate to this too) is how effort posts are responded to. They're effectively ignored. The last couple games I even tried to get in early if I had an effort posts so it didn't get sandwiched in the middle and even then - effort posts get effectively ignored no matter who posts them.

New game idea, take roles and modify names to be along the lines of ZELLS DINGER

New game:

Everyone has roles but no one knows what it is. Each night you PM zell saying use my action on [insert person here]. Are you attacking an ally? Are you saving an enemy? Who knows!

Absolutely. This is why I started Hulk-posting. There's so much information in a Wolf thread, but at least 95% of it is just noise. The noise drowns out the worthwhile points. Why read long post when funny moving picture post?

I'm guilty of it too. Surely, we all are. But reading/scrolling fatigue definitely affects engagement with longer posts. Not complaining; it is what it is. I would like to see a game thread with post limits, though. Maybe something low like 10 posts per person. Would be an interesting experiment. Almost Mexican stand-off-esque, with your posts being your pistols.

This would be interesting. I do think that if something like this were to ever occur then you should still be able to switch your vote after 10. It'd be pretty shitty if you posted 10 times then game changing info was revealed but you can't change your vote.

Shouldn't have posted 10 times. :crossarm

A whole metagame could emerge around pushing others to use up their ten posts of the day.

Everyone gets a role from the current dictionary. What it does changes randomly whenever I feel like it and I’ll only update the dictionary without notifying anyone.

In all the games I've played I've still yet to see an actual lynch happen from someone making a cold read. It always seems to come as the result of some kind of role reveal.
For what it's worth, I'm 3/4 confirmed predators in aussie game right now from day 1 #feels. Not that it would've helped anyone much as I was the fool and also died. :D

Also in on this.

So while we are waiting on signups, since I missed the first game, what do I need to know? How does this differ from regular ol wolf? Who won the first game and how?
Voting someone off in a day doesn't kill them so it seemed to be a better idea to make sure someone ended up on trial every day.

No role claiming is the big difference too, so being very subtle when hinting would be within the rules I believe
