I think it first sprung up about the time they did the X/X-2 Remaster release for PS3.

So Square has threatened me with X-3 for a decade now, last threat circa 12 months ago.

I don't know how to make them stop.

I remember having a tough time with it as a kid who didn't understand English properly and always skipped tutorials and dialogue. And then I discovered The End on accident lol

Oh, no, not till endgame. I enjoy triple triad too much and part of the fun for me is collecting them all. I refine the dupes all the time, but the draw system is just too tedious and I hate it so. So I love that on steam one of the cheats is full 100 draw once. Makes it tolerable.

But then junctioning becomes a joke.

I also only refine duplicates (maybe with some rare exceptions). If you're magic stat is high, it doesn't take too long to draw anyways.

@Kat I'unno about the PS Catalog, but XI and XIII are the only two that aren't playable at all on PS4/PS5. They're both on PC though. And of course you can still play XIII on PS3.

XIV is "free" through the best (and some of the worst) parts of the game so long as you 1) don't ever buy a license (so, do Free Trial and nothing else, ever, until/unless you want to play past lv70) and 2) don't mind having a bunch of nonsensical restrictions (which isn't a problem if you're just trying to go through the story and ignore the "MMO" part).

So:

I ~ VI: Pixel Remaster on PS4/PC/Switch
VII ~ IX: Digital downloads on everything (VIII is a "Remaster," IX has a not-so-secret Remake coming Soon™)
X: X/X-2 Remaster on everything (FFX Remake in early development, was allegedly aiming for 2025 but slipped 'cause Square)
XI: PC only
XII: Zodiac Age on everything
XIII: XBO/PC/PS3 (absolutely no word on a Remaster, likely because Microsoft paid Square and offered support to make it backwards compatible with Remaster-caliber bells and whistles)
XIV: PS4/PC (Free* as noted above, otherwise monthly fee to play)
XV: PS4/XBO/PC

Looks and sounds like such an odd game.

But everything appearing to be be a bullet sponge, especially on the harder difficulty you're forced to play the DLC content on, has absolutely turned me off trying it more than I otherwise would have been.

I snagged the game and Season Pass on deep discount earlier in the year, so I wouldn't at all be surprised if it turns up Free* soon.

It's an internally developed Action-RPG by Square... so, yeah.

Seems to have a lot of the trappings of a loot-a-thon, with a Gear Grade/Item Level system and huge emphasis on grinding for gear(/materials) and whatnot. YMMV on how much that does or doesn't play into the sponginess, I reckon.

I have absolutely zero context for how similar it feels to, say, XV: Comrades, XIV or Babylon's Fall. So if it's free - feel free to punish yourself and report back!
