I should get around to playing the CoD games some day. I stopped at CoD3

I havent played one since MW3. Story wise the MW games were at least interesting enough to keep my attention with MW3 being the weakest narratively at least. After that I feel like once you've played a few, you've played them all. If it's your pop corn game go for it as I know it can be cathartic to just shoot things

Well if we're being technical here nobody has given the correct answer.

CoD is one of those series that everyone just loves to pile up on but they're usually "pretty good" at worst.
  • Ghosts - decent game, albeit with a weaker setting. Probably a bit underrated because of the Xbox One launch memes and the fact that they stepped back on some of the innovations that Blops 2 made, but it's hardly like later entries were not guilty of doing the exact same thing.
  • Advanced Warfare - pretty fun game, notable for the "press F" meme. Contains Kevin Spacey. Probably better than Ghosts despite its predictable plot, but there are better CoD games to try.
  • Blops III - weak campaign, a really uninspiring grind and a version of Singapore that competes with Battlefield 4 for inaccuracy. Probably the worst on this list, outside the new MW3 abomination.
  • Infinite Warfare - quite a divisive game. Personally I loved it - I thought it added interesting elements to the single-player experience such as space battles that are actually pretty good, the environments were diverse and cool and the story is pretty good as well, excepting Kit Harrington who was meh as the main villain.
  • WWII - I think this is a bit of an underrated game. It always seemed like a lot of people wanted a return to WW2 and then got buyers remorse when they delivered it, but to me this game has always had a great sense of atmosphere and some really interesting missions mixed in. Maybe not the most unexpected game but proof positive that CoD campaigns are generally pretty good.
  • Blops 4 - has no campaign lol
  • Modern Warfare (2019) - probably vying with the original Modern Warfare as the best CoD campaign. Just superb. Was criticised for demonising Russians, a view which has aged hilariously.
  • Black Ops Cold War - basically almost as good as MW2019. Some great missions that mix up the formula a bit. It's short though.
  • Vanguard - a bit of a disappointment. Not really a bad game as such and still very fun to actually play, but one with a confused narrative. It basically bounces around time following multi-national WW2 special forces in a way which doesn't really work for me, and its brevity is less excusable than BOCW given its lower quality.
  • Modern Warfare 2 (2022) - very good, but I think it suffers a bit from the same problem as its 2009 namesake in that it feels a bit "try-hard" in some of its action sequences and some of its other attempts at innovation don't quite pay off.
  • Modern Warfare 3 (2023) - this is basically a bastardised MW2 level pack that they spun into a full game, and should be treated as such. Avoid the SP.
  • Black Ops 6 - a return to the MW2019 and BOCW standards with an exceptional campaign which is basically everything CoD and specifically the Black Ops games do well.

If it got a 360 or Wii U release, I would have played it by now.
