Going to Thailand

That's my main problem with it. With boba tea you have thick straws to make it easy to get into your face-hole, but with a can, the jelly chunks all dam up the opening of the can and make it hard to drink. It's just annoying.
Yeah that makes sense.

Also going back to your rec on pocari sweat: I agree. It's a good one to try out. I haven't had it since I was in Japan though.

But really you've never had boba tea before? I mean I'm married to a Taiwanese woman so I've obviously had it a bunch, but I definitely had it before meeting her (though the quality was worse because I didn't know what I was doing).
I have exactly once and regretted the only sip I took of it. I've luckily blocked out the memory beyond the fact that it was a terrible, terrible idea.

I haven't noticed pocari sweat here, but a quick Google says it's in several nearby markets, so I'll have to hunt for it tomorrow.

This has been on my drink menu since I tried it a couple months ago.

Speaking of... I need to make some today. Just wish the boba itself didn't take 30 minutes to make...

Pocari Sweat is OK, but 100plus and H-TWO-O do the same style of drink better IMO. The former is definitely easily available in Thailand, not sure if the latter is. 100plus is carbonated, 100plus active is non-carbonated. It's also an authentic SEA drink unlike the Japanese impostor!

All I know about grass jelly is that in Singapore they add milk to it and call it a Michael Jackson. Because, you know, it's black and white. Not sure if they were going for the song or the artist with that one!

Also if you're into energy drinks you might want to try Krating Daeng, which is the original Red Bull before it was reformulated for Western tastes. It's an...experience.

If you're not into energy drinks then you're probably a very wise person!
I'm sensitive to caffeine (small amounts can give me heart palpitations and will keep.me up for days), so I'm not, but I do envy all you who can drink some caffeine to wake up in the morning.

I'll look out for those other drinks. I'll try all the ones I find and report back.

My girlfriend bought some of that gummy fettuccine and is insisting we're going to try it together. The back says "bourbon fettuccine cola". Help!

I'm sitting on too many pictures to post them all at once, so I'm going to divide them up into different posts a bit. We've been up to lots of fun stuff!

We went to a "floating market". I thought this would involve boats, but it was mostly shops on a pier-like structure near a little creek thing. Well, technically there was one boat.

1000007683.jpg

This is what the general market looked like.
1000007684.jpg

1000007685.jpg

We also saw this sweet little kitty. I couldn't pet them because my hands were covered in bug spray though. =[
1000007682.jpg

This was a little eating area, with people playing live music (the stage is in the upper left of this picture).
1000007241.jpg

1000007243.jpg

There were some interesting buildings in the market, too.
1000007248.jpg

A close-up of the same building through that gate.
1000007249.jpg

That building is in the background of this picture.
1000007245.jpg

A close-up of the black statue.
1000007687.jpg

A shop just to the left was selling these. My girlfriend insisted on buying the one on the bottom right. Yes, they are really made out of stone and as heavy as they look. I made her carry it.
1000007246.jpg

A close-up of the bug in the background.
1000007247.jpg

Completely unrelated, we're staying in a hotel for a couple of nights, and this is my current view from where I'm sitting.

What are those things floating in the pics? Are they fish farms, traps, buoys, or something else?
I assume they're fishing nets, but honestly you know as much as I do. Here's a zoomed in picture.

1000007732.jpg

They're all along the coast; here's a distant look.
1000007733.jpg

I haven't seen anybody bring them in though, which seems weird for fishing nets.

We're at the pool now after getting two-hour massages. Thai style massages are sooo good.

I realized that while I'd shown you all lots of weird foods, I hadn't been taking pictures of the delicious food we've had.

This is crab pad Thai from a place across the street from us. Sooo much crab!

PXL_20240519_071234309.jpg

This next set of pictures is from a sushi restaurant in a mall.

This was pretty good, though a little dry. Can't beat the presentation though!
PXL_20240601_101256681~2.jpg

Wagyu steak. I don't usually like my meat quite this rare, but it was delicious and possibly the most tender steak I've ever had in my life.
1000007187.jpg

Juicy, crunchy, vegetable tempura. I didn't recognize half the vegetables in it, but they were all tasty. By far the prettiest tempura I've ever seen.
1000007183.jpg

And, of course, sushi. I'm still not convinced eating raw fish here is the wisest thing, but it's hard to resist!
1000007188.jpg

These next few are from a restaurant my girlfriend and her wife found around the corner from the hotel they stayed at before the surgery. She took me back there for my birthday. Crispy basil and crunchy breaded chicken, I'd eat two plates of this right now if it were in front of me.
PXL_20240606_051147298.jpg

Fried rice, so much more flavorful and with more goodies in it than most any I can get near my home.
PXL_20240606_052324525.jpg

Lemongrass and lime soda. It's not sweet like soda in the States, so tasty and refreshing instead of syrupy.
PXL_20240606_051151053.jpg

This is from a place in a building with an incredible view which I'll post later. It doesn't look like much (and needs at least twice as many pickles), but it's a thick wagyu burger cooked perfectly medium, juicy, and full of flavor. I'm going to be spoiled for beef for life.
PXL_20240607_073536618.jpg

This is from a restaurant in the hotel we're in now. Wagyu ribeye, crunchy potato wedges, grilled vegetables, some kind of delicious sauces I don't remember the names of. They brought out a half a head of roasted garlic after I took this picture, which was sooo good. We also got a side of garlic mashed potatoes which were somehow almost as good as the steak. Creamy, buttery, roasted garlic, mmm.
1000007708.jpg

I should go get some lunch from the pool bar, this post made me hungry.

For my birthday, we went on a dinner cruise. No pics of the dinner because it was nothing special, but the views were lovely.

This was apparently the only picture I took not on the boat. I didn't even get a picture of the boat at all, haha.

1000007333.jpg

It went up and down the river for 90 minutes (45 each way).

Here's some kind of golden buildings.

PXL_20240606_104126717.jpg

PXL_20240606_104223602.jpg

Some tall building.
PXL_20240606_105151224.MP.jpg

Some boats.
PXL_20240606_104335501.jpg

This guy was waving wildly on a neighboring boat, so I assume he really wants to be Internet famous, so I'll post him here.
PXL_20240606_105159860.jpg

This is a gigantic mall.
PXL_20240606_111304848.MP.jpg

Side note here: pride displays for June are absolutely everywhere and quite extravagant. I saw this at a different mall, and it's pretty typical for what you see everywhere.
1000007651.jpg

PXL_20240607_103951824.jpg

Back to the cruise, some kind of pointy tower.
PXL_20240606_110603459.MP.jpg

One thing I noticed is you could usually see both gleaming skyscrapers and shacks most places you looked. Sometimes they were right next to each other.
PXL_20240606_111841793.jpg

In fact, if I look down from my 26 floor hotel room right now, this is the view:
1000007740.jpg

I think this is my favorite picture from the cruise.
