I have decided to be dumb and read the thread! Since I am, uh, technically still involved as I gave the Spell to somebody.

So... I dunno how far I'll get, it's 10 pages and still going. But it might be fun to just post some unfiltered thoughts. No coded messages, no subterfuge, just what I see and what I think it means and maybe how I'd use some of it. Onwards...

Because Jon is the Red Lady, which is probably going to wind up killing itself anyway and is a Regular/Random Villager, this is most likely a completely blind shot from the wolves. There's zero benefit for the wolves here, they just chose a number that is more unlikely to be chosen by bored/lazy protectors or deflectors.

The Solo Killer not having a registered kill here doesn't necessarily mean anything yet. Serial stacks, Arsonist is slow, Alchemist and Illusionist happen during the day. Strongly rules out Corruptor though.

See, the thing here is that it doesn't actually matter what you claim or how you claim it. It just matters that you have something on the board that people can speculate/comment on/counter-claim. The people that have nothing on the board are still either 1) anti-town because they aren't willing to open themselves up in any way, or 2) just not contributing/paying attention at all. In either event, it's generally fine doing away with them and using the information that comes out of it to make more accurate future moves.

The issue that arises later is if what you claim early does not have a logical follow-through to what you actually have/follow-up claim. But this also kind of assumes you even live long enough for that to be a concern.

At least for me. You gotta worry about other things with other players.

It's a double-edged sword, unfortunately.

It does legitimately stop a lot of townies from being able to be informed and make good decisions, because there's just too much white noise.

But it also obfuscates the fuck out of the anti-town factions, making them less likely to pick up on more subtle claims while a pro-town union begins to take shape.

That's honestly probably my biggest contribution, when I don't fucking die. I know basically what I'm looking for and I'm decent at compiling and analyzing datasets, so provided I don't get too busy or too distracted I can help the town stay ahead of the wolves - and sometimes, rarely, actually catch some of them myself.

It's... complicated, sometimes, to know what I'm going to lie about on Day 1. I'm definitely going to lie about my role in some capacity, I might lie about how much time I have available, I may or may not lie about adhering to the town's wishes or the exact parameters of what I'm saying. As the game goes on I slowly stop lying, but... well I kind of need to start living longer again for that to really matter.

Anyway! Was honest about time, was honest about having the Alchemist potion (obviously), was honest about not wanting to go too deep into the weeds since my goose might've been cooked. But I did lie about the stuff in red and those were part of the role claim I decided to go with last night. As mentioned, the random number assignment worked pretty well in my favor I think.

I was, uh, obviously (I think?) claiming Flagger. I have a silly little superstition that either #4 or #5 is always a wolf - I think I've spoken about it before in other games - and people love being lazy and choosing the top or bottom numbers. It just so happened that Kat has in recent games been ganking the fuck outta me, and I have a history of chasing Jawneh around to make him squeal. So I was going to say that I had protected number 2 and redirected it to number 4, and was deeply amused by the outcome of who they were.

Simple, easy, to the point. IDK.

I don't think I've ever had an aura that wasn't Unknown or Evil. I'm really scraping the barrel here for things I can originally false claim based strictly on aura.

This is more than a bit disingenuous, having actually read the post in question now. At the time, having read nothing else besides people responding to my posts, I assumed as mentioned that TD was the Alchemist himself or was given the other potion.

Sort of on a lark this post is the singular reason I gave TD the Spell. I never want the Solo Killer out of the game too early because they want the wolves dead and prevent the wolves from winning whilst alive (which is, also, the impetus for reviving TD when he was the Illusionist - the town was about to lose if Jawneh missed his shot, there were no downsides from a "prevent wolves from winning" standpoint).

I would not, at this point in the thread, remotely rule out Kelly being a wolf trying to waste potential pro-town Seer usage or being the Alchemist himself and baiting. But we'll see...

I wouldn't put it past her being the alchemist and feigning getting a potion. But we'll pass that bridge a bit later.

As a general rule of thumb, people shouldn't do the same gambit in back-to-back games.

For me personally, I'm attempting pushing buttons and pulling levers in different ways every game. One part experimenting to see what works, one part seeing how much I can get away with 'cause it's both fun and funny.

I don't really understand the rationale for this, if I'm honest. The town basically never lynches on Day 1 anyway, so the wolves aren't so much stealing a kill away from the town as they are narrowing the noose around their own neck. There are two avenues of consideration here:

1) Timing, this is happening at 1:03 PM.
1A) This is roughly the time period Tubby queued his action for when he was Shadow Wolf and I was on his team. Ergo, one could perhaps argue that Tubby/Kelly/Benzine have a higher-than-average probability of being a wolf, if not necessarily the Shadow Wolf itself.
1B) This is happening basically immediately after my announcement of the Alchemist. It is, then, also quite possible that the wolves wanted to lynch me thinking I was doing the Jailer gambit (wrong), TD thinking he's the Alchemist because he brought it up (my Spell invalidates their Shadow - and apparently they're wrong), or Kelly because they assume the same things I assume above (which may implicate TD as wolf, possibly?).

2) Wolf roles. Obviously they have a Shadow Wolf, but if their Night 0 kill on Jon is any indication they probably don't have a Seer. We could extrapolate a couple of ideas from this, like that they're probably going to end up burning Shadow on another Regular/Random Townie and hurt their attempt longer-term. Also a clear sign of aggression, meaning they may have a Blitzkrieg alignment - if I had a protector role, I would immediately be more wary than usual.

What are the odds of there being 2 red ladies?

Is this a role claim...? Honestly shortkut's been all over the damn place the last several games. I gave Alu credit in the last game for just saying he had "no intel" or something along those lines, and that mostly worked out. So, sure, why not. It's on the board.

We're halfway all the way through Page 4 and nothing of consequence has occurred save my announcement (and impending death) and the Shadow Wolf descending. Oof.
