Restock, dammit!
I mean, NYC is kinda populated. I'd guess there are way more people trying to get hold of them around there than most other places.

I haven't even bothered checking to see if there are any in stores around here. Probably. :shrug

Gizmodo are complaining about how messy transferring games from the old system to the new one is, including their Senior Editor of Consumer Tech accidentally deleting his 8 year old Mario Kart 8 save because Nintendo wants to delete the original save data off of the old console. Seems the whole virtual game card thing is just messy and annoying.

this is why I don't get systems at launch. Low availability+annoying bugs and glitches. Especially with this kind of system that uses emulation for backwards compatibility. I'd just let them hammer out the issues over the next year and see how things turn out. Meanwhile, hoping that OLED Switches lower in price.

MK8 was one of those games? It tells you what saves will be deleted from the old Switch and I saw Animal Crossing (which I knew was a thing) and Pokemon Sword, but I didn't remember seeing MK8.

At any rate you can turn the virtual card system off and it acts like the old system, except with an authentication check before every game start (which the old system did not check as religiously). You can't have two simultaneous users playing one digital game anymore, but this is also a thing on Switch 1.

I'd be pretty fucking mad if my Pokemon save data got fucked, but I already planned to transfer all my Pokemon to HOME before fully moving over. That sucks that this is happening.

Actual issues aside, this entire launch and release has been really rough for Nintendo. I only see hate articles and comments, rarely any praise... and like, more than what I expected? As a casual Nintendo user and enjoyer, I really don't have any issues with the Switch 2, whether that be all the DRM garbage stuff or the hardware upgrades or the price. I'm one of those who was gunna get it no matter what. But damn if this hasn't been a complete nightmare for Nintendo. I'm not saying I feel bad for the billion dollar corporation, but dang, the times have changed.

The first issue of deleting saves off the old console is dumb, I completely agree. That said, the system did warn me of this when I transferred, and seemingly warned him too with his cloud-save issue. Admittedly I have no plans to use my Switch 1 further so I wouldn't be affected. I checked my MK8 save and it was fine.

The second issue (with the two Switches on one account) can be bypassed in the settings by activating the online license setting. I think Nintendo haven't done a great job with advertising this, but the option does restore the system to something very similar to what went before. The main downgrade is that the old primary/secondary trick to play one digital copy simultaneously on two devices is gone, although that's the case on Switch 1 as well. There's a workaround involving putting one console offline although that obviously won't work for online play.

I do think some of the press articles are dumb though. Is charging for the Welcome Tour silly? Yes. But multiple publications wrote articles saying you needed $xxx of accessories to progress in the game despite multiple in-game character dialogues clearly giving the workaround to this. That doesn't exactly speak well for the journalistic ability of most of the gaming "media", which to be blunt aside from a few select individuals/outlets is a largely supine mass of press-release/reddit/resetera regurgitators.

I sound like a Nintendo shill now, so I might crawl into a corner and hope I recover.

I know you're just joking, but jokes aside, people should be able to support Nintendo without being demonized for being a corporate bootlicker. It seems anywhere that anyone tries to say that they enjoy the S2 or Nintendo in general are met with such vitriol, compared to this exact time last year where no Nintendo fans caught flack for enjoying Nintendo. I understand why some people are upset, but the majority of trash that gets reposted/shared whatever is all "haha enjoy your $150 games" "underpowered piece of garbage" :get a steam deck" like ok, this only reminds me of Apple vs Android shit lol.

Also I'm enjoying Mario Kart World more now for a couple of reasons. One is online play, which is manic to the point of derangement. The second is knockout tour mode, which is the rally-style mode where drivers are progressively knocked out after each checkpoint. It's fun in SP, but in MP it's all I've been playing. I still don't think the open world is quite used to its full potential in free-roam, but if it allows for knockout tour then honestly I don't care.

Actually there's a third reason - the soundtrack. It's always good, but this time for the free-roam and non-course elements they've added in a bunch of other Mario music and there's just so many tracks.

I think that's the first remix of Dire Dire Docks Nintendo has ever done. There's even a Mario Paint track in there for reasons.

Wanted to share this as I recently found out about it (thanks to RetroBird). There's a site that chronicles games and determines if they 1) Can be played offline, and 2) Do not REQUIRE a download to play.

They have some games that don't technically require a download, but may be missing content or have game breaking bugs. For instance, the Switch version of Diablo 3 works fine without downloads, except for the Necromancer's curse abilities.

It's not all encompassing, the Switch version of Need for Speed Hot Pursuit Remastered isn't listed, but the PS4 version is. A quick search suggests that the single player works perfectly fine without a download (Redditor stated they loaded the game up with their Switch in airplane mode). Supposedly, they get an error when attempting to use MP functions, suggesting that it has a version check server side (which makes sense). Otherwise, it sounds like it's safe to get that game without worry that it won't work when the Switch (or Switch 2) can no longer download updates.

Lol, my ex apparently got two Switch 2s...

She said she ordered one from Target and one from Walmart, assuming that one would get randomly canceled as they tend to, but... They didn't... So now she just has 2, one for her and she's giving the other to our son.

I guess when he's here over the summer I'll have an opportunity to try it out.

I did that with the PS5. I hoped to cancel the second one before it shipped, but I got the notification at more or less exactly the same time as I opened the first one.
I'd rather have these 4 systems go to actual consumers who intend to use it as opposed of scalpers who intend to sell it for 750+

Keycards, no OLED, lack of games, low internal storage capacity...

...that's gonna be a nah from me, dawg.

I'm also not a fan of how much bigger it is than Switch 1. I only use my Switch in handheld mode, so making it a lot less portable is annoying for me. Switch 1 is perfect for playing in airplanes and bringing with me on travel. Switch 2 is way less discreet in terms of size.

I'll probably get one eventually for the first party games during the mid-cycle refresh, but based on everything I'm seeing so far, I'm pretty disappointed in the console.

Got an email that walmart had new ones in stock, so ordered one. Supposed to be delivered tomorrow.

My only question is @Tommy Boy should I let my son take it in the bathroom?

I got an email from Costco and dropped everything I was doing. Had to pay a little more but whatever, not scalper price. Getting mine Wednesday!

Only allowed if the Switch 2 is not raised more than 15 inches off the floor. So as long as he's fine with hunching over, perhaps crawling or shuffling around in the bathroom, then I think arrangements can be made. :chuckle

My delivery date got switched from Wednesday to today! I bought another set of joycons and the charging grip in prep, but pro controllers are sold out everywhere. I'll probably just order one and get it shipped from Target.

I got a camera too, primarily because my wife said we need one (we don't) but I'll report back on how that is when we get some use with it

The camera is by all accounts just OK, but with the limitations of the chat software anyway I don't think it needs to be anything more. It works with most USB-C cameras, but I don't think I've owned any external webcam in like 15 years.

I considered a pro controller but I think I'll just do what I did with Switch 1 and waste a couple of years before getting some nice 3rd party joycons.

What exactly is the point of the camera?
Mario Party is getting an upgrade called Jamboree TV, so you can see your friends while you're playing. I'm not sure how it'll work with certain games, but we have friends we play Mario Party with a lot, and usually have a FaceTime call open, so we figured we might as well do it. I haven't tried it out yet, probably won't until next month when the jamboree upgrade comes out.

First impressions: I feel like I am playing Pokémon on an emulator now. The game is so smooth. If it launched this way, it probably wouldn't have gotten as much flack. I just spent an hour running around.

Mario Kart is cool, I feel kinda lost in free roam but in the mean time we're just playing through the grand prixes and knockout races
