Yugioh Discussion Thread

Decided to make this one too in case anyone wants to discuss the game. Picked it back up recently after taking a little break due to being able to play Magic Arena again. I've been able to craft a new deck while I was at it. It's a Yubel build supplemented by the Fiendsmith engine, and the deck is ridiculous with the amount of disruptions it can set up, in addition to it being able to play through hand traps.

I'm still useless at new age Yu-Gi-Oh, I can't get into the combos and how to not use spells and traps and whatnot...it's all effects and so on. I miss the old Yu-Gi-Oh, lol. But I'm learning, and I have when we play :)

Grinded out enough gems for 10 packs. Only managed to pull 1 UR.
Sounds like real life pull rates to me!

I remember the days where boxes you purchased has guaranteed pull rates. Like at least one secret rare per box.

What they've done nowadays is criminally abhorrent. Asking people to drop hundreds on cardboard (or digital cardboard) but never have a guaranteed rare card is terrible. I've been heavy into Lorcana more than even MTG recently. I've spent a lot more than I'll admit on Lorcana... and I've pulled 1 enchanted card. Pull rates are abysmal.

MTG... Wizards is pushing me far away. I was SO looking forward to the Final Fantasy set. But they've inflated the prices so dramatically and I don't think I can justify spending that much on it... Every commander deck over $100... Collector booster boxes over $500! The problem are the whales that buy it. These inflated prices are awful.

At least with physical cards, they can't one day choose to take them away from me...

Much agreed, as long as there are people willingly dropping money on it and very little pushback against the insane prices, it'll only continue to get worse.
Specifically referencing Wizards here, because YGO, Lorcana and One Piece don't need to worry about this, but I understand you're trying to expand the game after almost 30 years by using Universes Beyond. Unlike most, I think they are cute additions to MTG. But not if you're going to raise prices through the roof to make up for the licensing fees. People can't afford this unbelievable number.

And with the tariffs now?! Ugh!

Sharing these beautiful pulls. Meant to do it earlier, but ended up getting caught up with life. Figured it was worth keeping the Memento cards and eventually decided to build a deck around them. I'm glad I did because I think it's a very interesting archetype. I did a bit of goldfishing with the cards and I've been having a lot of fun with them despite how complex the combo lines are. :)

Currently a WIP, but I'm trying everything in my power to build a deck around the Winged Dragon of Ra. I have a burning ambition to make the Egyptian God cards work.
Man I remember loving those cards in the battle city part of the anime. Then they tried to make the cards work in the game format and they all just… don’t. Obelisk was the most functional one. I had a fun Slifer deck for a bit. Ra was always bad even though the anime made it out to be the far superior one. I miss that show. Stopped watching after dungeon dice monsters.

Konami made a mistake when they nerfed the cards into oblivion imo. Imagine if they had retained their original abilities, then they would at least present themselves as actual towers on the field.

Hard to balance a meta around that too. And these games all make themselves known via playerbase.

Ygo just tried to mimic Pokémon in having an anime too.

I will say this though, @Jon, it is funny watching people scoop when you break their board with Ra's Sphere Mode. :giggle

Had a discussion with Crystal this morning too regarding what Ra's original abilities were supposed to be before Konami nerfed them, for example.

You must Tribute 3 monsters to Normal Summon this card. If Special Summoned from the GY: Send it to the GY during the End Phase. Unaffected by non-targeting effects or effects that remove it from the field, except a DIVINE monster. Effects that target this card last until the end of the turn. Control of this face-up cannot be switched. Can attack, ignoring all other effects. While this card is in face-up Defense Position; Your opponent cannot target other monsters you control for attacks or effects. Gains the respective ATK and DEF of all monsters used to summon it.

(Quick Effect): Tribute any monsters and pay any LP; Add the total LP and ATK to this card's ATK and DEF. (Quick Effect): Pay 1000 LP: Destroy all enemy monsters, ignoring other effects. (Quick Effect): Tribute 1 "De-Fusion": Make this card's ATK/DEF to 0 and gain equal LP equal to its ATK. If Special Summoned from the Graveyard: It gains the following effects:

â—Ź Cannot be destroyed by battle or effects and all damage to you becomes 0.

â—Ź This card can attack all monsters your opponent controls, and then can attack directly only once if this effect is applied.

Yeah, though Ra did eventually receive support that did somewhat get its original abilities back in the form of Ancient Chant, but even then, the God cards still paled in comparison to the meta defining decks. They really haven't aged well, and it's a shame because I hold a lot of love for them.

Yeah that definitely wouldn’t have been completely overpowered at ALL in YGO. Imagine in a card game that allows you to cycle and summon half your deck on turn one the power of that card.

It’s definitely a scoop lol

I wouldn't recommend running it, but it is definitely funny when you sit back, let them go full combo, only for you to hit them with Forbidden Droplet on their negates, then tribute all their monsters to summon Ra for an OTK. :link

My knowledge of the game before I recently got back into it went as far as the XYZ era. I had zero idea (and still very little) on the silly pendulum mechanic. I eventually did however, got used to link summoning.
Yeah, all those mechanics were odd to me. Seemed fun, unique in some ways. But the hand traps and play style turned YGO into something I didn't find fun anymore. Which sucks because the artwork on the cards is still by and far my favorite.

@Jon, what if I told you that you can fusion summon Exodia now? Yeah, that's a thing, and he's become a staple in trap-based decks. He can negate and set traps that blow up your board....

omg yes... wrestling will never regain those glory days.
Never say never. I think wrestling can under the right circumstances. FWIW, WWE is doing better these days without Vince at the helm, but I also believe they still have a ways to go yet in order to make it worth watching regularly like you did back then.

As for AEW, I've been so completely out of the loop for the past couple of years. It hasn't been the same after the Punk drama, plus things over there have cooled down significantly imo.

So far, having a tough time building a deck around the God cards. Through all the trials so far with the deck, it would appear the biggest weaknesses with such a one-dimensional strategy are not only how easily prone it is to being disrupted, but also how bricky the deck can be when you don't open with the right cards to fetch/summon them.

I'll still continue with it as a little side project due to the respect I hold for those cards, but as for using them in a competitive setting, I strongly wouldn't recommend it.
