Wrestlemania 40 Main Event Situation (Spoilers)

I know a lot of the wrestling fans on GWF have left their WWE days behind and moved onto other promotions, but if you haven't heard what has happened in the last week+, it's pretty interesting. Tl;dr at the end.

-Cody Rhodes wins the 2023 Royal Rumble and challenges Roman Reigns for the belt. He loses due to interference from Roman's faction (the Bloodline) - like every other challenger after him
-Cody Rhodes wins the 2024 Royal Rumble. Immediately after pointing at the Wrestlemania sign, he points at Roman Reigns, who is conveniently in a box at the stadium, and Roman starts to look scared
-Two nights later on Raw, Seth Rollins (the WWE champion on Raw), cuts a very confusing promo begging Cody to pick him for the Wrestlemania match instead of fighting Roman Reigns again. In particular, he criticizes Roman for being a part-time champion (which is very accurate and problematic)
-Later in the week on Smackdown, WWE says Cody will make his decision. He's in the ring with Roman Reigns, and says that he is coming for Roman Reigns, but not at Wrestlemania. He also says that he consulted some people about his decision, and the Rock's music hits. Rock and Roman stare each other down as the show fades out. It *appears* that Cody has given up his Wrestlemania main event to the Rock.
-WWE fans do not take kindly to this and have tons of signs and chants (including "Rocky sucks" and "We want Cody") at the NXT PLE that occurs two days after Smackdown
-On the subsequent Raw, the fan backlash is acknowledged, and Cody and Rollins again come out to cut promos. Drew McIntyre interferes, so basically Cody, says nothing. Confusingly, Cody is also booked in a Bullrope match with Shinsuke Nakamura (who he just finished feuding with before the Royal Rumble)
-Yesterday, the WWE holds a Wrestlemania Press Conference. Seth Rollins comes out first and tells Cody to come out and make his decision. Instead, Roman Reigns comes out and continues insulting Seth's belt. Then, The Rock comes out and announces that it's The Rock vs. Roman Reigns at Wrestlemania. Rock shows a massive picture of the Maivia/Fatu family tree. Cody then comes out and announces that he's facing Roman at Wrestlemania, and that Roman/Rock's grandfathers would be ashamed if they saw what Roman/Rock were doing. The Rock gets very upset and starts cursing at Cody, and it appears that he begins to align with Roman. Eventually, everyone leaves the stage, but The Rock goes up to Triple H (with Roman in the background) and tells him to fix it.

Based on what we know today, Cody is facing Roman at Wrestlemania. It's unclear how The Rock fits into this. It's also unclear why Seth Rollins was dragged into everything (other than the fact that Cody could have chosen him), and why both he and his championship were buried so much during these promos. There was plenty of speculation of a triple threat, but that seems unlikely based on yesterday. There is probably much more to say, including that The Rock has now turned heel.

In any case, the backtracking of the WWE and the passion of its fans was must-see TV for the last week, and I have to hand it to the WWE for convincing people that we all needed to watch a Wrestlemania press conference, which should have been a nothing event.

Tl;dr: Cody Rhodes for some reason gives up his Wrestlemania championship opportunity to the Rock; fans get upset so the WWE backtracks and now Cody is definitely fighting Roman Reigns at Mania.

They know if the Rock had prevailed, it would've been a slap to (a) Cody Rhodes, who's earned his shot to do what Dusty never did (win the WWE title, (b) Roman Reigns, who would've likely rolled over for the Rock it had been Rock-Roman at 40 and (c) Janel Grant because putting Rock in Cody's place sounds like a Vinny Mac dick move.
