and you would get justifiably lynched when on day 4 you say you are a doctor that refused to protect any of the confirmed roles that could help the town
What confirmed roles?? Just because somebody says they have a useful village role doesn't mean they actually do. Just because nobody has contradicted them doesn't mean it's true.

I have a defender role and am not going to protect quagmire/dimmerwit unless we kill one and they turn out to be a wolf, which would strongly suggest the other is a townie Even then tbh I might not protect dimmerwit since he can do it himself if he's really a flagger.

Announcing certain people MUST be protected or it proves somebody is evil is a good way to have a successful berserk. It's exactly the sort of thing I've done (successfully) when I was a berserker. If nothing else, it helps you avoid targets that won't die when attacked.

And in case it really needs to be said: obviously I don't want to kill a marksman. I want to kill somebody possibly falsely claiming to be a marksman. It's a great thing to claim if you're already on the chopping block and want to live for another day or two, especially to get off an ability. Yeah it won't work forever, but it doesn't have to. And if we're wrong, it tells us to go after dimmerwit next instead of relying on him later when it could be important. It gives us a lot more info than killing some random person.

sorry team just a bit tied up workwise but will be on this soon enough

They dragged Quagmire to the gallows just as the sky broke open with a light drizzle — not enough to cleanse, just enough to chill. The villagers moved without ceremony now. The days of fear had turned into rhythm: suspect, debate, vote, kill. This time, it was Quagmire's turn.

He didn't resist. He never did much of anything, really. He was the kind of man who melted into a crowd, who listened more than spoke, who watched too closely without ever being caught doing it. When asked about his work, he'd mumble something about ink and records and "helping where he could." But no one remembered what he'd actually done.

At the noose, he asked for nothing. He met no one's eyes. Not even when the final word was spoken and the platform fell away.

His body swung gently in the wind, boots twisting. The drizzle collected in the folds of his coat.

It was only later, as the villagers walked away, that the unease began to sink in.
Not regret — not exactly. Just a question with no voice.

No one had seen him lie.
No one had seen him tell the truth either.

They buried him just outside the square, in shallow earth, with a stone that read nothing at all.

Quagmire has been lynched. Quagmire was the Illusionist.
