2018 Nissan Rogue Sport...it's meh, but it gets me around. I do miss my 2015 VW Golf TSI S, though, really loved that car.

I also own a 1993 Chevy Suburban K1500, but it's in need of work so just sits...yay...kind of glad, actually, I shudder to think of just how much it's going to cost to run that thing.

Edit -- I knew I wasn't going crazy, we did do this before, lol https://gwforums.com/threads/what-kind-of-car-do-you-drive.96/

My bad. I didn’t search 😂. On my phone so I wasn’t even thinking about searching.

Mine needs a lot of work. Need to do a engine rebuild or buy a reman. Just don’t got 4k plus laying around right now.
I hear you there. My Rogue is ok-ish, got some damage from someone that hit me (and I was too polite and told them just forget about it, because I'm a moron), and it needs some routine maintenance type of things, but my Suburban...ugh. Rear main seal, complete interior strip down needed, tires are rotting away from sitting, it needs to be re-registered (currently non-opped, so at least that's good)...just a bucket of money waiting to happen.

That’s the downside for getting decommissioned vehicles, though… you get a deeper cut on the purchase price, but you’re gonna end up paying in either the engine or transmission or both. I’ve driven a few Dodge pursuit variants, a few Chevrolets, and a few Fords, and they all are roughly the same in that respect.

All in all, you make out better doing it the way you did and buying decommissioned. You’re getting a vehicle that was modified to be put through the paces.

Yeah, I've had it quite a while now. Probably got 20k miles on it myself. Was at 150k when I bought it. Now sitting almost 200k so it's time for a rebuild of sorts. Just not sure which way I really wanna go with it.

The wife put the majority of the miles on it lol.

There’s a pretty good market for restoring them if that’s what you want to do. Aside from some of the plastics being cheap and electrical and mechanical issues, they’re pretty solid vehicles if you treat ‘em right. I can’t say the same about base civilian models, though.

Got a 2005 Ford Explorer Sport Trac. It's one of those horrible minibed trucks with a full cab. Works good, but the odometer is busted so I can't tell how fast I'm driving lol. Luckily I can gauge the speed just from the RPM at this point.

Also I got a 2009 Suzuki SX4, but there's some weird electrical issue that has fried a couple alternators on me as well as an exhaust/evap problem that I can't understand. So that's just... Sitting since April.

The in-laws have a 2018 or 19 Ford Fiesta that I've been driving a lot too, since it's better on gas than the Explorer. They used to do morning papers so that car has well over 200k hours put into it of constant stopping and going. It's had a rough life but still drives.

Yeah, it's got about 16 codes but mostly if not all are related to the engine. She's just been beat on too much. Got a bunch of idle hours on it.

Whatever you do… don’t drop the 4.7L in it. If you think 16 codes is a lot, you’ll lose your mind with the 4.7L. The 5.7L will error, but it’ll be a lot more reliable and you’ll get better fuel economy since it has more muscle to push that heavy ass car.

I couldn't drop anything but a 5.7 it'd just feel weird. It's definitely got plenty of power. My buddy was pissed that his R/T was a 1 wheel wonder and I could light both rears on mine.

I haven't even narrowed down a parts list quite yet. So many places to shop for parts. The worst part is everything is so damn expensive to fix or acquire for these.

Oh dude, that’s because the pursuit variant has a upgraded diff, computer, and some extra goodies they don’t bother stripping out when they go to auction. They’re only required to remove communication components like the radio and GPS trackers and emergency equipment. You could have ended up with anything from a partitioned transport model all the way through a legitimate pursuit vehicle intended for the highways. There are trim levels even in the pursuit sub-category.

RockAuto.com will cover the bulk of what you’d need at a better rate than your typical chain stores.

Yeah, I use Rockauto a lot, to be honest. I can honestly say I didn't know that about the Pursuit models. That's very interesting. They didn't remove the Siren though. :goofy

Yep, the police/fedbois get all the good stuff, dude. You have one of the best service vehicles on the road, in my opinion. First gen Charger pursuits were garbage. The newer ones are garbage. The Fords have so many issues… from carbon monoxide leaks in the cabin of the Explorer Interceptors to transmission issues in the Responders (Fusions). The Chevy Caprice is great when you get past the Chevy parts and get to the Holden core of the vehicle… it’s essentially the leftovers they gave Pontiac before their bankruptcy and then the discontinuation of the Chevy SS.

2016 Chevy Cruze, baby!

It wouldn't typically be my car of choice, but I got a great deal on it. With how bad driving is in Saudi, I figured my car would be damaged or totaled so why spring on a nicer vehicle? Sure enough, I've had a few people ding it pretty bad in parking lots and just drive away. The car runs well and it gets me where I need to go. Pretty happy with it.

I actually had a Cruze before my charger. Fucker caught on fire. Luckily kids wife and I all got out. Went up quickly.

You are NOT the first person I’ve known of that had this happen. A friend’s passenger airbag randomly deployed at 70mph, blasting the windshield and webbing the glass. Months later, the wiring harness under the back seat became compromised and ignited something under there torching the entire car.

This was a 2015 Cruze LT, @Smacktard , has since been replaced with a 2018 with fewer issues from what I’ve heard.

I liked it because I loved the Cruze. It wasn't a terrible car. Amazing mileage.

If I remember right it was a 2012.

Infinitely superior to the Cobalt/Slowbalt, though not nearly as durable as the Cavalier. Mileage was great when compared to horsepower over the Malibu and Impala. The Impala I had was garbage.

2018 Lexus ES350

Wanted something reliable, comfy, and practical for daily driving and the occasional road trip. Only things missing from it are a sunglasses holder and GPS/Android Auto function. Want to get a spoiler installed on it because it looks too similar to every other modern sedan out there.

My Mustang can't handle long trips anymore and it needed a lot of work, so it sits in my garage until I can take it to a shop that is like 30 minutes away that can fix the suspension on it. Local shop wasn't comfortable working on it because the original changed a bunch of things that made it far from OEM, and they felt a shop that specializes in Mustangs would be a better option.

Man suspension work sucks period. I just had 2100$ done to mine a few months back.

I had an Oldsmobile Aurora that was essentially made with guts from the parts bin at the Cadillac factory. It had the same size air compressor powering the suspension that you’d see powering the bubble decorations in an aquarium. I’ll take standard gas charged shocks or leaf springs or coil overs over the pneumatic setup ANY day, dude. I’ll never understand why people willingly put air ride on their vehicles… it is such a hassle for such a minimal difference.

The original owner did so much unnecessary work on "upgrading" the suspension so that it was lower in the front, and only drove it for about 30k miles before they sold it off. I never noticed there was an issue until I realized that I started scraping on things I wasn't scraping on things before. I constantly had issues with my clutch making noise when I didn't have the clutch engaged and every time I got it fixed, it would come back. Then I ran over a set of train tracks too fast and the car hit the pavement hard and that noise came back almost immediately. I also started noticing my tires scraping the inside wall more often than in the past.

I looked at how much room my tires had, and I noticed that the front drivers side was lower than the front passenger side. Took it to a shop and they told me it wasn't stock height.

I also recently found the original owner installed some kind of stiffening brace towards the front. It's a steel bar that stretches between the two front wheels. I never realized that wasn't stock. Not getting rid of it, because it adds rigeity without me putting in shock tower braces in the front like I did in the back.

What really sucks is that it's IRS. Not even the Ford dealership I took it to back in 2014 knew what the fuck to do with it. NO ONE SELLS PARTS for New Edge IRS.

My first car was a 02 Alero. I had so many dumb problems with it.

I learned what happens to your car if your catalytic converter goes bad because of that car. It's suuuuuuuper annoying to try to drive a car with a bad catalytic converter in a hilly region because you have NO power so you were going 25MPH max up a hill.

Dude, you shared parts bins with the Grand Am I had back in 04-07, that fucker was a money pit and a half. I had to replace so much shit on it before I even got close to paying it off. I didn’t know any better at the time, but I ended up learning that the car had flood damage… which was found when taking off the door panels. I didn’t know enough about cars at the time to look for that kinda shit, and the interior was immaculate… so nothing really stood out.

Like you, my catalytic converter took a shit and that dinky little V6 couldn’t pull her worth a fuck up even a 5% grade. Then the transmission started slipping… that’s when it was time to go.

ever have your mirror break off going through a car wash?

that's how cheap that shit was

Nah, mine decided to start hanging from a fucking pothole. Punishment for not buying the one with body-matching mirrors, I guess.

I also broke the clips that held the backseat in place tossing groceries in there. Nothing more frustrating than hitting a bump and watching your backseat fly every day until you find a suitable set of replacement clips.

Whats a Catalytic Converter :goofy LMFAO I always straight-pipe mine and put a bung on the exhaust pipe for an O2 sensor.

Way to much bad luck with Cats, and they are too damn expensive to replace.

You only get to keep yours here if you drive a car low enough to keep the crackheads from rolling under it. They already sold their jacks for crack, so none of them lift the car and cut ‘em out.

Every once in a while, I think about the idea of buying those special edition Aleros that were the last 500 Oldsmobiles ever built, the lilac/purple colored ones, then I'm reminded as to why I hated that car. Like the AWFUL placement of spark plugs. Why the fuck are they BEHIND the engine? I asked someone to help me replace the spark plugs and he said he'd never do that again.

I thought the same thing about the dark red Auroras, the equivalent of what you’re talking about. On paper, they should be EXCELLENT sleeper cars. They’re uncommon, and SHOULD have the potential… but there’s just so much shit that was wrong with them. When the Grand Am and Aurora were in good shape… man, they were some fun cars. When they went to shit? You couldn’t get them away from me fast enough.

Only GMs I'll consider buying are the Saturn Sky or a modern Corvette, but I think there are so many other cars I'd rather buy than a Corvette.

If there's one good thing about GM cars, it's that you can buy a random unpopular vehicle and still find parts for it because they likely shared parts with something else. The Sky is definitely one of those cars. They'll break a lot, but at least they parts will be affordable... unlike German and British cars.

I'm really torn on it. I think the ideas are great and the tech could eventually get there. But I feel as if we aren't ready globally for all electric anything.

That Sky is a rebadged Pontiac Solstice, that’s what they did with the leftover parts from killing Pontiac before they killed Saturn. You’d be extremely disappointed in both vehicles… they lack the power with 4 cylinders for their weight.

When producing the batteries causes more damage to the earth than combustion engines… we’re not at a point where it’s viable. Look at all of those stripped out cobalt mines compared to the impact of oil derricks and shit like that… then factor in how long we’ve used combustion engines over batteries.

Until they improve Sodium Ion batteries to be as good as lithium ion, I'm not sold on 100% electric vehicles. Especially considering our infrastructure is not prepared for everyone owning an electric car. They're still super inefficient, slow charging, and the replacement batteries are expensive as fuck.

Hybrids are really the way to go in a country a big as the US.
