In this game, you aren't voting to lynch anyone, you're voting to send them to jail. The person jailed is not immediately removed from the game, but instead is "put on trial" during the next day phase. Once jailed, they cannot use any special abilities until released from jail (be that by early release or being found Innocent). However, when on trial, you can feel free to role claim as much as you want to try and save your bacon. Otherwise, I ask that you refrain from any role claiming. Hinting, however, is allowed.

The minimum amount of votes to arrest a player will be roughly the number of citizens / 2.

A handful of players will be chosen at random as the Jury for each trial and they will decide if the player is Guilty or Innocent. Guilty players are killed and removed from the game. Jury Verdicts are decided by simple majority.

During each day phase you will also be concurrently deciding the next player to arrest (keep an eye on those juries).

~~~~~~~~~~
In this game there are 4 special Citizen roles, chosen from the following:
Citizens:
Lawyer: Once per game can release a Defendant from Jail, by contacting the Governor via DM.
Gumshoe: Each night, can investigate a player, discovering their role.
Good Cop: Once per game, at night, can arrest a player to be put on trial the next day.
Vigilante: Each night, can execute a player.
Judge: Once per game, during a trial, can either release a player or condemn them to death.
In this game there are 4 Mobsters, chosen from the following:
The Mafia:
The Don: Can only be killed by being found Guilty at Trial. There will always be a Don in the game.
The Consigliere: Each night can investigate a player, discovering their role.
The Cleaner: Twice per game can prevent deceased player roles from being revealed to the City at daybreak. The Cleaner will still learn these roles.
The Button Man: Once per game, at night, can kill a player at night, in addition to the normal mob kill.
Mob Lawyer: Once per game can release a Defendant from Jail, by contacting the Governor via DM.
In this game there MAY OR MAY NOT be a Dirty Cop:
Solo Player:
Dirty Cop: Once per game, at night, can arrest a player to be put on trial the next day. Once per game, at night, can kill a player. If they make it to the end of the game without being discovered, they win. If discovered by the Consigliere, joins the Mob and wins/loses with them. If discovered by the Gumshoe, cleans up his act and becomes a Good Cop and wins/loses with the Citizens.
An Eventful Evening
We find ourselves, once again, outside that old rundown brownstone walk-up, this time in the middle of the night. There's a man sitting alone in a black sedan, reading the paper. Another man approaches from an alley next to the old building and gets into the passenger seat.
The driver folds up his paper and asks, "It's done?"
"Fuhgeddaboutit."
The driver nods. "This should put the boss in a good mood."
"Never seen the boss in a good mood."
"Well a better mood, then. We took a big hit, the Consigliere goin' down like that."
"Fuckin judge."
"Fuckin' judge. Too bad it wasn't one of ours in that seat."
They sit in silence. Waiting.
"How long this supposed to take anyway?"
"It takes as long as it takes. Don't wanna miss this guy AGAIN do ya?"
"Ok ok, quit breakin' balls."
More silence.
Another sedan, virtually identical pulls up next to our subjects. The window rolls down, and our driver rolls his to match.
"Ay, what's the big idea, you tryin' to give us away?"
"You gotta go. Someone hit the boss."
"Ohhh!!! The fuck happened?!"
"Some crazy flatfoot just took a shot at the boss. Dunno if they was workin alone or just plum crazy but we're goin' to the mattresses. Get movin'."
"Is the Boss okay?"
"It's gonna take more than some stunod with a badge to take out the Boss."
"How'd they even know where to look?"
The new arrival breaks eye contact as he answers, "I think we might have a rat. Now get outta here. I'll clean a couple things up here after and then I'll see you at the safehouse. Might even beat you there, I know a quicker way through the--OH WHAT THE FUCK?!"
As they were chatting, no one noticed the man dressed in all black creeping up with a tommy gun pinned under his arm. They damn sure noticed when he announced his presence by unloading that Chicago typewriter's full vocabulary through the windshield of the second sedan's windshield, sending a full paragraph into the chest of the Cleaner.
The driver of the first car quickly decides to gun the engine instead of the assassin and pulls away with a screech and smoke, tearing down the street as the Thompson makes an unsuccessful argument for him to stick around. As the car fades into the distance, we get a clear look at the words on the glass door of the old Brownstone walk-up.
"C.M. Coleman, Private Investigator"
And then the firebomb erupts, blowing out the glass door and every window in the building.
shortkut was killed by the Vigilante. He was the Cleaner.
Cole has been killed by the mob. He was the Gumshoe.
The Don was attacked by the Dirty Cop.
The only ones seeming to thrive in the City these days are the ones selling ink.
Today's headline: "ON FIRE AND UNDER FIRE, TWO DEAD IN GANGLAND SLAYINGS"
Zell is on Trial
Zell's Jury
Tubby
Local Hero
Fire Queen
Joseph Snapple
canadaguy
4 votes for an arrest warrant.
The Vigilante slayed a mobster.
The Madam has been unlocked for the Citizens in future games. Each night she can provide shelter for a player, preventing kills or arrests. The protected player cannot use abilities.
New Day!
New Day Dancing GIF by WWE
The day will last until 7am EST 8/21
So when I was asking to be protected (not sure if I actually was), it was to confuse the mob. Can't believe it was the townie team that got confused lol.
Hey @Zell 17, say hello to Alu for me.
Guilty
So you went from thinking my posts had a lot of logic and voting with me late yesterday to voting me guilty without a single question? Well played well played.
Question pending.
Second question:
Post in thread 'VTS Mafia Night 3/Day 3' https://gwforums.com/threads/vts-mafia-night-3-day-3.650/post-31925
I think you have excellent reads and strategy, yet you say this last night. What gives?
I was committing to my theory that the most involved players are typically townies. I knew shortkut was a possible exception because he was very involved as a wolf in the last game, but it’s kind of hard to have a convincing theory where you say “this is how the game is usually played, except for this fuckin guy over here”.
Also I’ve been on record as saying the towns so far are god awful at voting evils without direct seer information. I’m the tenth player the town has voted for where there wasn’t direct seer information. I’m the 9th Townie. The one hit the town got was canadaguy’s 50/50 between Fire Queen and Raposa.
I say that to say: Nobody’s “reads” out here are worth a shit including mine.
So on your theory you would think it's more likely that say Ants, JS, Benzine and Fire Queen make up the remaining Mafia? Or at least 1 of those 4 is?
I agree our reads are all trash. Provably worse than randomly picking would be.
Since that's agreed upon, what can you offer to help us make the right call?
Well I think we should try to focus on the fact that the Don was attacked by the Dirty Cop and whatever plans Cole had. I’m sure there is a group of people chatting privately about the game that knows they are villagers. It would help if that group came forward and shared with the class what they knew, because then we could basically wrap this game up.
Is that likely given there are mostly unknown roles and only Cole that has a seer role?
The only way the Dirty Cop can win now is by surviving through the end of the game since the investigative roles are dead. Their biggest fear should be the mafia killing them at night. The faster the town wipes out the mafia, the more likely the Dirty Cop doesn’t get taken out at night. The Dirty Cop knows who the Don is. The smartest play they can make would be to PM the name of the Don to Local.
The dirty cop has PM'd me. Full transparency, I am a dunce, though I believe them*.
They protected Cole after he came out as gumshoe, which he would not have done if Alu flipped him.
The Donna is @Fire Queen.
I vote we arrest @Fire Queen.
I assume Cole flipped them? Or did they just decide to give up their chance of winning the game for a town win?
I'm ultimately no quite sure yet on Zell so for now I'm going to consider some things before that vote, but for posterity:
Let's say we do get rid of a mafia member via trial today, and arrest their final member heading into tonight. Can they still do their kill as normal?
First off I'll vote to put FQ on trial.
Then a question for our defendant @Zell 17. Assuming Fire Queen is guilty, who would you deem most suspicious as the final member of the mafia?
"However, when on trial, you can feel free to role claim as much as you want to try and save your bacon. Otherwise, I ask that you refrain from any role claiming. Hinting, however, is allowed."
Thinking this might need to be bold if I run another one of these.
It’s hard to stop really. I do think your game design discourages it by default because there are no protectors. I mean someone could say “MY ROLE RHYMES WITH DUMBSHOE” and it’s in in the eye of the beholder whether that’s “subtle” enough.
