Ok this is my new project to work on. I have a favorite albums list but not individual songs.

I'll be back.
Mary J Blige Clapping GIF by Power Book II: Ghost

I could never do this... it changes constantly and completely dependent on mood. Like I could have a rolling favorite song that lasts minutes, or maybe hours... never something I could list.

Right now it's probably Reach for the Sky by Social Distortion but yesterday it was definitely I Dream of Jesus by the Dead Milkmen. Tomorrow it could be anything, except anything by 311 because they suck!

I made a rule that I couldn't pick the same band/artist twice because otherwise it would just be a ton of Maynard James Keenan projects and Coheed.

1. Pearl Jam - "Black"
2. Foo Fighters - "Everlong"
3. Coheed and Cambria - "The Light and the Glass"
4. Deftones - "Passenger"
5. A Perfect Circle - "Passive"
6. The Rolling Stones - "Gimme Shelter"
7. Tool - "Parabol/Parabola"
8. The Cranberries - "Zombie"
9. Puscifer - "Green Valley"
10. Fleetwood Mac - "The Chain"
11. Jimmy Eat World - "Pain"
12. Nine Inch Nails - "Head Like a Hole"
13. Barenaked Ladies - "What a Good Boy"
14. Chevelle - "Vitamin R (Leading Us Along)"
15. Led Zeppelin - "Kashmir"
16. Stone Temple Pilots - "Interstate Love Song"
17. Prince - "Let's Go Crazy"
18. Ashes Divide - "Denial Waits"
19. Tears for Fears - "Everybody Wants to Rule the World"
20. Rise Against - "Savior"

Stealing Vash's idea, trying to stick with one song from each artist. I'm not adding numbers to them so I'll go alphabetically. Tomorrow I could replace some of these individual songs or bands but this a good overview.

Amon Amarth - "Live for the Kill"
Avantasia - "Lucifer"
Bad Cop Bad Cop - "Cheers"
Bad Religion - "Generator"
Baroness - "A Horse Called Golgotha"
chvrches - "Clearest Blue"
Dead Milkmen - "Punk Rock Girl"
Haken - "Elephants Never Forget"
Iron Maiden - "Hallowed Be Thy Name"
Joy Division - "Love Will Tear Us Apart"
Misfits - "Where Eagles Dare"
Naked and Famous - "Girls Like You"
Rage Against the Machine - "Township Rebellion"
Riverside - "Self-Aware"
Run the Jewels - "walking in the snow"
Rush - "The Analog Kid"
Seventh Wonder - "By the Light of the Funeral Pyre"
Social Distortion - "Story of My Life"
Teenage Bottlerocket - "Bigger than Kiss"
Unleash the Archers - "Tonight We Ride"

Ashes Divide is a hell of a side project, definitely cool to see Billy’s work considering we see a ton of Maynard’s.

Alright… I’m gonna attempt this. They’re in no particular order, but each one is important to me.

1. Blind Melon - “No Rain”
2. Alice In Chains - “No Excuses”
3. Deftones - “Digital Bath”
4. Primus - “Mr. Knowitall”
5. Clutch - “Pigtown Blues”
6. Monster Magnet - “Look To Your Orb For The Warning”
7. Corrosion of Conformity - “Clean My Wounds”
8. Down - “Lifer”
9. Ashes Divide - “The Stone”
10. Cold - “Outerspace”
11. Candlebox - “Simple Lessons”
12. Faith No More - “Midlife Crisis”
13. Rush - “Freewill”
14. The Doors - “People are Strange”
15. In Flames - “Bullet Ride”
16. Golden Earring - “Twilight Zone”
17. A Perfect Circle - “The Outsider”
18. Marilyn Manson - “The Nobodies”
19. Type O Negative - “I Don’t Wanna Be Me”
20. Megadeth - “Sweating Bullets”

I felt physical pain when I couldn't use The Outsider due to my self-imposed rule.

Billy’s sliding work during the post-chorus transition is what sold it for me. “Blue” was also a close contender. “Thirteenth Step” was one of those top albums for me, man.

Also Twilight Zone BARELY missed my cut off.

It became a ritual for me at work. When I first started repo, I didn’t have the ability to stream music through the car, so I listened to FM radio. Every shift that song came on at some point in the night, and so when I got to a new company… I started each shift with that song, because it lasted approximately the time it took to reach the gas station from the garage. It wasn’t like listening to “5 Minutes Alone” before you get into a fight or anything stupidly dramatic like that, but it always got a laugh out of me and that bass line started my night off right. Rituals become a thing doing that kinda work… you almost become kinda superstitious.

Like others, this is an impossible task for me, so I'm just going to pick my current favourite song from the top 20 bands in my last.fm:

Alice Cooper - Why Trust You
HammerFall - Unchained
Edguy - The Pharaoh
Iron Maiden - Hallowed Be Thy Name
Avantasia - The Scarecrow
Metallica - Battery
Kreator - Stream of Consciousness
Slayer - Angel of Death
Stratovarius - Shine in the Dark
Cannibal Corpse - As Deep As The Knife Will Go
Judas Priest - Electric Eye
Helloween - I Want Out
Yngwie Malmsteen - You Don't Remember, I'll Never Forget
Dragonforce - Valley of the Damned
Firewind - Live and Die By The Sword
Overkill - Elimination
Motorhead - The Chase is Better Than The Catch
Primal Fear - Metal Is Forever
Destruction - Curse the Gods
Savatage - Gutter Ballet
Avantasia - "Lucifer"
Amazing choice. I wish this song was twice as long because it ends just as it's really getting going.

Hmm...I never really rank songs, but let's try this, one song per band, 20 bands...we'll see.

Insomnium - "The Elder" (so many others, but this one has stuck with me since day one)
Kataklysm - "Where The Enemy Sleeps"
HammerFall - "Never, Ever" (I know, I know, they have far better, but this one hits me every time)
Iron Maiden - "Hallowed Be Thy Name"
Blind Guardian - "The Lord of the Rings" (how do you pick just one BG song? So many amazing ones, and even the covers can be absolutely epic. The Wizard, The White Room, Hallelujah, Don't Talk to Strangers...all amazing!)
Helloween - "I Want Out" (Really the entirety of the Keeper of the Seven Keys I and II)
A Perfect Circle - "3 Libras" (Tough to pick, Judith is great, Blue is amazing, Pet is fantastic...it's tough!)
Brymir - "For Those Who Died"
Sentenced - "The River" (another tough one, hard to pick from I Kill Myself, Cross My Heart and Hope to Die,
Charon - "Unbreak, Unchain"
Dead End Finland - "Lifelong Tragedy"
Dream Theater - "Endless Sacrifice"
Black Light Discipline - "Tides"
Aerosmith - "Kings and Queens"
Poets of the Fall - "Carnival of Rust"
SOiL - "Black 7"
Citizen Soldier - "I'm Not Okay"
Run Home Jack - "New Devils, Same Demons"
Nekrogoblikon - "The Magic Spider"
Demon Hunter - "I Will Fail You"

Tried to mix it up a bit, not just all metal.

“Black 7” is a hell of a song, “Scars” was one of my favorite albums back then. Fun as fuck to play on guitar, and sounds just as good live.

There's nothing wrong with an all-metal list :D
Agreed, totally agreed ;)
Dream Theater almost made my list with Panic Attack

I really like the whole Metropolis Pt 2 album too.
Oh Panic Attack is a fantastic pick, definitely!

Yeah, SOiL really bring it on that album, absolutely love it :)

Nice. I almost considered to going to a show here, but the venue was sketchy, and I was like "I don't know if I want to go see a band that might not play the one song I know them from."

They put on a hell of a show, you wouldn’t have been disappointed, and if the Psy-Ops deep cut is what you’re referring to, they’ve been including that in their set since they reunited back in 09. These days, the singer is the only original member, though.

This was not easy. Literally only the first 3 are ones where I can put at the top without any inkling of a doubt.
I have a wide range of music in my library. A majority of it is "Alternative" or Alternative Rock. Lots of 90s stuff. Lots of Green Day, Yellowcard, Foo Fighters, and Sum 41.

Trying to come up with this list, I asked myself "would I play this almost every time it comes up or am I skipping that song. Even then, some songs are definitely skippable on certain days that I'm looking for specific songs. I wasn't sure if I wanted to go 1 song per band/singer or just ignore the possibility. I also have songs where I used to consider them to be personal favorites that have since fallen from that. Big example is "Pieces" by Sum 41. I've also got a lot of classics that I like, but wouldn't consider them favorites.

I don't think I'm going to be able to rank these songs...

Green Day - Basket Case

Goldfinger - Superman

Billy Joel - Piano Man

Sigur Ros - Hoppipolla

Blues Traveler - Run-Around

Capital Cities - Safe and Sound

My Chemical Romance - Welcome to the Black Parade
Side Note: I hate when radio stations shorten the intro...

The Killers - When You Were Young

Shakira - Whenever, Wherever

Chris Cornell - You Know My Name

Flogging Molly - Drunken Lullabies

Side Note: I love that the video features a guy skateboarding, because I listened to this song a LOT in Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4.

Yellowcard - One Year, Six Months
Side Note: They apparently rarely play this song live. I got to see them play it live last month as they were performing all of the songs from Ocean Ave in order.

Foo Fighters - Monkey Wrench

nano.RIPE - Last Chapter
Side Note: This song and the end song (ED) called "Crossing Road" are the only good things about the fifth season of Food Wars.

Len - Steal My Sunshine

The Wallflowers - One Headlight
Side Note: I'm pretty sure my first time hearing this song was in a Geico motorcycle insurance ad.

The Funeral Party - Giant

Reel Big Fish - Kids Don't Like It (Skacoustic)

Electrasy - Cosmic Castaway

Republica - Ready to Go
Disclaimer: Video has a LOT of zooming and unzooming. Full non-video version is 5 minutes long, and doesn't have the cool guitar bit that is present at the end of the music video (3:21). Here's the Original version. I'm personally not a fan of that version.
Other note: If you've ever been to Cedar Point and rode the Top Thrill Dragster, you heard this song every time the prepped a launch.

HMs:
Morningwood - Nth Degree
Fastball - The Way
Rancid - Time Bomb
ELO - Twilight (Song starts at 1:40)
Pearl Jam - Unthought Known
Men Without Hats - Safety Dance (Video Version)
Remy Zero - Fair
The Darkness - Christmas Time
Andy Williams - It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year
Dropkick Murphys - The Season's Upon Us
Spin Doctors - Two Princes
Yellowcard - Believe
Sum 41 - So Long Goodbye
Five for Fighting - 100 Years
Syntax - Destiny
311 - Don't Tread on Me
NWA - Express Yourself (Extended Mix)
Billy Joel - Downeaster Alexa
Damizza - I'll Do Anything
Spacehog - In the Meantime
Johnny Cash - Hurt

Solid list.

Spacehog and Fastball both are some easily forgotten and underrated bands, man… the story behind “The Way” is deep.

This certainly wasn't an easy task... But I'll do what others has done and put them in no particular order. The easy way out. :D

Queen - Innuendo
Sabaton - To Hell and Back
Blind Guardian - Nightfall (the very song that got me into BG over twenty years ago, and it's still great)
Iron Maiden - Alexander the Great (356-326 B.C.)
Rob Zombie - Dragula
Dire Straits - Sultans of Swing
Metallica - For Whom the Bell Tolls
Ghost - Year Zero
Avenged Sevenfold - Hail to the King
Five Finger Death Punch - House of the Rising Sun
Hoffmaestro - Highway Man
Edguy - Tears of a Mandrake
Foo Fighters - The Pretender

I prefer my songs to be very long but this is one that I love because it's so short. I've always said the reason this one sticks out is because it leaves an impact without lingering, which makes that impact even stronger to me.

The dueling verses by Jorn and Tobi near the end is some of my favorite snippets in all of music. The only rival I can think of is them two again after the mid point of The Scarecrow
