Me when finding out I can support Lumen hardware option instead of software option after closing all the Oblivion gates: oh.
Fucking hell Tommy, are you on skooma yourself? There's like 80 of them!

(or did you just finish the main quest, which I've just remembered is a thing)

Oblivion probably isn't the best showcase for the hardware RT option, which is more noticeable around things like vegetation and interiors. You also need to turn off SSR reflections if you want RT water reflections, because SSR will override it.

I took the week off from work for this. lmfao. I got myself to level 17 and then started hammering out gates. I was at about 55 before I decided to finish the main quest before getting a gate bug. I just wanted to get the achievements out of the way so I can use the console without modding. I like to do some setups before starting a character sometimes, so this first playthrough was a "wow holy shit look at this" while my next will definitely be more focused on a type.

I may just hire you to walk me through my settings one day :chuckle I have an RTX 2070Super but a lot of the "noob cannon set up guides" are for the higher 3 or 4 series, so I'm not sure if I'm optimized for success or not. Most of my stuff is set to medium. I'll have to check out what my SSR setting is because the water is the only thing that looks janky to me from a distance. Close up, it looks normal. Same with the cloth texture like on tents - kinda weird far away, but gets very sharp and detailed when I'm next to it.

These days I mostly look for general guides and then adjust DLSS to compensate because I'm lazy. Particularly on this game because I have a 4070 and frame gen does at least seem to work OK on this game.

Failing that, I just look up what others do, e.g. :

Also, here's some comparisons between software and hardware Lumen. Bear in mind hardware even on low is more taxing than software, and the comparison shows hardware ultra which obviously is more taxing still, although the difference between low and ultra hardware Lumen is actually not that great in both visuals and performance.

The outdoor shots you see a difference, but indoors it looks almost identical.
