Multi Strategy games

I'm sure there's some of us who enjoy these types of games.

There have been a couple of big announcements recently. The first is the "unveiling" of Europa Universalis 5, a game we've actually been watching being developed for like 2 years now as Project Caesar. It looks like taking some elements from Victoria and CK, making pops and characters more in depth.

The other is Anno 117, announced last year but with a gameplay unveiling and impressions videos coming out this week. I really enjoyed 1800 and the setting is definitely something I'm interested in. I don't expect it to be hugely different but I'll still play the crap out of it.

I'm so looking forward to Anno 117, and glad to see the new EU. I'm out of the loop on CK, admittedly, but looking to get back into it again. EU I'm better with, thankfully, but Civ has always been my default, lol. Disappointed in 7, very much so, but giving it time...

So, I hear you're looking to get back into strategy games. Perhaps I could be of assistance. ;)

I've definitely heard mixed things about Civ 7. I enjoyed 6 and the expansions but didn't play as much as I wanted. I was a bit skeptical of the direction they chose to go in for 7.
Instinctively I'm the same. The reset between ages doesn't seem to be a change that fits with the game.

I used to spend a lot of time on strategy games. I've always been a real time strategy fan, but I've spent a lot of time on the more pure turn based and 4x games over the years. But as with most of my gaming, not really in the past ten years. I haven't played a EU game in a long time. I spent some time on III or IV but not very much, and can't remember which one. I've never played an Anno game. Feels like something I should correct. If I can find the time for an RPG now (which I hope to do soon with Clair Obscur) then there's no reason I can't dive back into this genre.

I've put close to or slightly over 300 hrs in both CK 2 and EU4, but "only" 51 into CK3. For what ever reason it has not grabbed me. I really dont like the rpg mechanics, for some things it could make sense, but sucks for policies. I also dont like the UI, sure it is "prettier", but its glossier and stuff blends together more. CK2 while a little clunky at first, it made sense and didnt blend together to my eyes

I have always wanted to try one of the Victoria games as I like more politics than wars.

Watching currently, glad to see population, and characters having more importance than EU4 as it was still very important then. So glad the mana is gone

More of an RTS than things like Civ, but I just saw they announced a Warhammer 40k Dawn of War definitive edition.

Graphics aren't really all that much better, but it's got all the expansions and stuff with it. I think there's also mod support so it's possible that there'll be graphical improvements through that.

I played a lot of this, so the thought of getting to bust through the campaigns again is cool. I'm sure I'll probably pick it up.

One of my favourite strategy games. I got pretty high on the ranked ladder online on this when I was at university. I put a lot of hours into the second game as well, but they're obviously (for anyone who has played both) very different. May well be tempted to give this a spin and go through the campaigns again. My multiplayer days are well behind me.

I mentioned to Kelly that I was playing XCOM 2 again. Big fan of the "every decision is bad try to make the least bad decision until you've made enough progress for things to get easier" genre.

I need to try the second one. I hear the level vareity is better. I got bored of the first one (reboot) due to lack of level vareity

I feel like when I tried XCOM, it was one of those games that had far too much shit going on for me to pay attention to... Although I also think I might have tried it on console, which seems not-productive for a strategy game.

I probably just didn't give it enough time. I don't even remember getting to any base building, so I must have given up on it during the first mission or something.

I think I may have played one of those with you online many moons ago? Probably the second one.
Yeah probably the second one. I struggle to remember what we played outside of our epic Supreme Commander sessions where I'd sit at the front and try to hold off the AI hordes while you took the time to build a functioning economy behind me.
I've never tried on console but it's turn based so it shouldn't be too bad.
I played the reboot on PS3 and had a great time with it. XCOM 2 is one of those games that I absolutely should have played, but fell victim to me becoming a parent. Enemy Unknown and Terror From The Deep are both key strategy games from my childhood.
