Shrewd reasoning my righteous red friend. Maybe it would be best to save my foot dust for another day. But I think we ought to avoid spilling blood. All of the Earth's creatures are beautiful -- even those as ugly as that creature.
So anyway, Little dude, what are you planning? I see your, like, downright wily grin.

{{Absolutely can try everything you four named.
So to explain this a little for the sake of learning, the bonus modifier for these skills is already pre-calculated on your sheets. So in this block, where you've got the P next to Nature it does mean both of you have proficiency in it. You get a bonus from your Intellect modifier by itself, then the proficiency bonus on top of that.
Short Order:
Moonsprout:
To break down how it's calculated a little;
Same goes for Perception, and it works the same way although most of you aren't proficient in it specifically.
You should be able to just click on that skill from your D&D Beyond character sheets and it'll add it all for you, with the result popping up in the game log.
HOWEVER; I did just tweak the forum/usergroup permissions so that you should be able to see the "Roll Dice" button at the bottom of the post window.
If you click that, you should get to the following screen, where you can add a d20, put the name of what you're rolling for in the comment, and can include your +modifier in there as a note. We'll still have to add the bonus to the roll outcome manually, but that's doable.
So... Good trial run for testing this feature!}}

As your trained eyes assess the deck of the ship, you notice that the sailors fleeing to the aft of the ship didn't finish tying off some of the rigging on a sail, which flaps loosely above the creature. Some of the barrels carrying supplies were also left without being fully secured.

Short Order begins to recall what he knows about the creature, and speaks to Moonsprout...
Hm...These creatures come across as more intelligent than they are. Your silver speech may be able to convince him you're in possession of something more valuable than it actually is.
Having not surveyed the rest of the scene he speaks to the other party members...
Is there anything we need to be wary of on board?

ducks in stealth behind the loose barrels he saw.

The Merrow Extortionist is so upset about Carl encroaching in his waters, and at Zesty asking to speak with the captain, that he somehow doesn't see you slip behind the barrels. He also doesn't notice that the largest of you adventurers has vanished. Carl must really be a twat.

The Merrow moves slightly out of the way.
Cautious to not threaten the creature, Zesty makes it past and to the captain. On the way, Zesty notices Aims'Orreh hiding behind the barrels. Zesty realizes with three adventurers in front of the creature, Aims'Orreh flanking in secret and himself behind the creature, should a fight break out, the tactical advantage belongs to the adventurers. Zesty arrives at the captain, to whom he now speaks plainly.
Captain, we were able to negotiate down the demands of the creature from 400 to 100 gold. What can you provide to stave off this creature and send it back to the depths?
